Considering apping into MASK OR MENACE? Want to dip your toes into the setting and get a feel of whether your character will fit into it? Or maybe you're just cruising and want to play around? Then you've come to the right place!

Pick any of the following scenarios below or feel free to make up your own, but don't be afraid to throw yourself at someone else's thread, either!

01. The city of Heropa is what one might expect from a small, bright and cheery place, where locals are friendly enough and local shop owners might offer a free drink to welcome you to their fair city. Some of the locals might thank you for always lending your service to the nation and others might not say anything. In fact, some people might back away from any imPort who quite obviously looks like they aren't from around the neighborhood. Once in a while there's a look of disdain on someone's face and hushed voices. An upset voice wonders aloud: "More of them, when we already know they can't protect us? That's just painting a bigger target on the city's back!" However, they're quickly hushed with a judgmental: "They helped save the cities, and it's the Soviets you should be angry with anyway! The imPorts are here to protect us!"

02. De Chima, Virginia, is a large city with a healthy economy, and though it's quieter, there are just as many citizens awed at your presence. Many people are out and about taking care of their regular business, but that doesn't distract them from crowding you in excitement if you're obviously from a different time or world, or just let it slip that you're a newcomer. Children and young teenagers are especially likely to ask for an autograph and a photo.

Some locals seem less enthused to see you. They never make an approach, but they can be overheard scoffing and muttering something about spies. "How can we trust any of them now?"

03. Maurtia Falls, Pennsylvania, is not as friendly and its citizens tend to go out of their way to avoid walking down the same sidewalk as the more obvious looking imPorts pass through. Local cops say nothing, but they scowl at those imPorts and mutter under their breaths resentfully about "vigilantes". However, not all locals turn the other way seeing imPorts; some of them will offer a polite enough smile and thank them for their help in overthrowing the trespassers. They don't stop to clarify what they mean, though.

04. Nonah, North Carolina, is the liveliest of all cities; loud, busy and there's some kind of energy in the air that gets everyone buzzing with excitement. Anyone who they come to determine an imPort is bombarded with all sorts of offers; job offers, advertising gigs, spokesperson for advocating children stay in school, etc. Anything and everything! You name it. Shops offer discounts for food and clothing, whatever they need. Advertisements are abound for imPorts to make appearances at various, televised celebrations, luring them in with promises of free food, merchandise, and payment.

She wants a picture with you. A selfie.

[ Brianna swoops in like the hero she totally thinks she is, takes the girl's phone, holds it for her while the girl stands beside Lexa, quickly takes a picture, and tosses the phone back to the girl, all in one fluid motion. She watches the girl leave, looking after her with a disapproving frown, before turning back to Lexa. ]

[Yes, that most certainly earns another eyebrow raise and an odd look, but Lexa manages to keep the brunt of her surprise and confusion from showing at this odd exchange.]

I see. I suppose I should thank you then.

It's okay, [ She says, despite absolutely wanting to be thanked. But clearly this girl is new, so she should cut her some slack. Breeze was new herself a couple months ago and ended up crying over some shepherd's pie. She probably would've ended up punching someone who came up to her and demanded thanks from her. Or worse. ]

You'll have to get used to it, though. We're a big deal around here.

So I've heard.

[The skepticism. It is practically palpable.]

[ She scoffs, crossing her arms. ]

You must get asked for pictures by kids at home all the time, then.

[ She guesses that could be the case, since there are some people who were already superheroes at home before they came to this universe, but based on this girl's behavior, she kind of doubts it. ]

No. I don't.

[That doesn't lessen her suspicion of pretty much anything she's heard since she arrived here. This isn't right. She isn't supposed to be here, and the story she's been told makes no sense.]

Well, you believe what you want. You're still stuck here.

[She scowls slightly.]

I don't even know where here is.

This is De Chima, Virgnia.

[ She waits to see if that gets any recognition. ]

[There's nothing but a blank stare.]

Should that mean something to me?

Guess not.

[ She frowns, taking a closer look at her. ]

But you speak English. Where are you from? [ Canada? She bets it's Canada. ]

I am from Polis. Do you know it?

Never heard of it. But there are a lot of cities I don't know.

[ It's not like geography has ever been her strong suit. ]

You would know this one if you knew my lands at all.

[As if this place could be any more confusing and disturbing than it already is.]

Where are you from that you don't?

[ She could be a smartass right now and say she's from the FAYZ, but that would just confuse things even more. If this person doesn't know where Virginia is, she probably doesn't know where California is, either. ]

The United States?

[ If Lexa's still confused after that, Breeze isn't sure how much vaguer she'll be able to get. North America? Earth? The Milky Way? What even comes after that? If Jack was here, he'd know, but she's on her own. ]

[Lexa simply frowns and looks around her. This isn't the first time she's heard that name since her "arrival."]

That's here, isn't it?

Yeah, but I'm from a different one.

[A long moment of silence follows that statement.]

A different one of what?

A different America. A different universe.

[This time there's no response at all. Only a long, questioning look, as if she's trying work out what you mean by that, or how serious you're being when you say it.]

I'm serious.

[ Brianna slaps herself on the chest, over her heart, where underneath her shirt, there's a circular scar from where Gaia's hand had burned a hole through her chest. No one could live through that. But here she is, anyway. Screw Lexa if she doesn't believe. ]

Is this anything like where you're from? You don't even know what America is!

[Hey, not every society has astrophysicists or sci-fi cartoons to tell them what alternate universes are from childhood! Some people are dealing with entirely new concepts here!

Still...]

No, I don't. But some of these buildings... They look similar to the ruins in Polis. It's strange...

Well, hey. You'll go back sooner or later. So no worries.

Will I?

[That would certainly be a shock.]

Everyone does, eventually. Except I'm trying to make it so people don't have to, if they don't want to. Or if they don't have anything to go back to.
