OH MY GOD YOU GUYS

TEST DRIVE MEME
Considering apping into MASK OR MENACE? Want to dip your toes into the setting and get a feel of whether your character will fit into it? Or maybe you're just cruising and want to play around? Then you've come to the right place!

Pick any of the following scenarios below or feel free to make up your own, but don't be afraid to throw yourself at someone else's thread, either!

And remember to have fun!

    01. The city of Heropa is what one might expect from a small, bright and cheery place, where locals are friendly enough and local shop owners might offer a free drink to welcome you to their fair city. Some of the locals might thank you for always lending your service to the nation and others might not say anything. In fact, some people might back away from any imPort who quite obviously looks like they aren't from around the neighborhood. Once in a while there's a look of disdain on someone's face and hushed voices. An upset voice wonders aloud: "More of them, when we already know they can't protect us? That's just painting a bigger target on the city's back!" However, they're quickly hushed with a judgmental: "They helped save the cities, and it's the Soviets you should be angry with anyway! The imPorts are here to protect us!"

    02. De Chima, Virginia, is a large city with a healthy economy, and though it's quieter, there are just as many citizens awed at your presence. Many people are out and about taking care of their regular business, but that doesn't distract them from crowding you in excitement if you're obviously from a different time or world, or just let it slip that you're a newcomer. Children and young teenagers are especially likely to ask for an autograph and a photo.

Some locals seem less enthused to see you. They never make an approach, but they can be overheard scoffing and muttering something about spies. "How can we trust any of them now?"

    03. Maurtia Falls, Pennsylvania, is not as friendly and its citizens tend to go out of their way to avoid walking down the same sidewalk as the more obvious looking imPorts pass through. Local cops say nothing, but they scowl at those imPorts and mutter under their breaths resentfully about "vigilantes". However, not all locals turn the other way seeing imPorts; some of them will offer a polite enough smile and thank them for their help in overthrowing the trespassers. They don't stop to clarify what they mean, though.

    04. Nonah, North Carolina, is the liveliest of all cities; loud, busy and there's some kind of energy in the air that gets everyone buzzing with excitement. Anyone who they come to determine an imPort is bombarded with all sorts of offers; job offers, advertising gigs, spokesperson for advocating children stay in school, etc. Anything and everything! You name it. Shops offer discounts for food and clothing, whatever they need. Advertisements are abound for imPorts to make appearances at various, televised celebrations, luring them in with promises of free food, merchandise, and payment.

No, it was the perfect time. There was no time to ask, only to act! You are truly understanding what being a Hero is, Origami.

[He wanted, more than anything, to convey how it was definitely a hero-worthy feat he had undertaken, even if some might consider it small. Origami Cyclone had come some way, and while Sky High didn't know exactly what had transpired that made him act as he did, he was definitely enjoying his newfound enthusiasm. Under any other circumstances, Origami might have been left behind, but Sky High was never the type of Hero to abandon someone in need! Ivan had done him a solid favor, and that was on its own merit enough to thank him. He in turn needed saving or else he too would have been overrun with the enthusiastic citizens and potential sponsors all hoping to meet them.

As he increased his wind velocity and elevation it became steadily apparent that Origami was, despite his capacity as a ninja who could launch himself into the air and do all sorts of aerobatic moves, not someone who had braved the skies in much the same manner as Sky High.

Still, if he could see Keith's easy smile beneath the helmet, he would have understood that he was very grateful for the help. And not to mention, would never allow him to fall from his grasp while they were flying. He was scouting out the landscape ahead in fact, in an attempt to find a proper landing spot on a rooftop perhaps.]

While I would have liked to greet and thank each and every one of them, even I am unable to do that the way things are now. Perhaps I will go back to try what some of them suggested, but learning the lay of the city may be even more important. For the sake of everyone!

[But who was he kidding? Even Sky High, with his normally busy schedule, didn't have the capacity or time to deal with so many demands all at once! It was enthusiastic, and rampant with potential fans if not practically humming with excitement, and he'd find a way to thank each one but right now he had to catch his breath. Which is why his speed slowed once he'd found a high enough building to carry them both to and he slowly floated down until his feet touched the ground, the rooftop overlooking the whole of the city.]

[Such praise felt hardly worthy of him. Origami gawked for a moment, glad his helmet hid any signs that he might be on the verge of breaking down from sheer embarrassment. His geta-soled boots clacked on the concrete as he was let down and he took a bit of a staggered step back, allowing Sky High's form to fully melt away from himself and flash back to his own rather ornate costume.

Now out of the fray and with someone he was at least somewhat familiar with, Origami felt a little more at ease with this sudden situation they were thrown into. While he understood his briefing and had a knack for conformity, he was still reeling from it all. Sky High, however, seemed ready and willing to just leap into the fray, no questions asked.]

I agree, I feel unsteady as it is, but...

[Though draped in his guise and usually shuffling about with all the enthusiasm of a Noh play performer, Origami felt he could at least drop his 'gimmick' when things needed to get serious. He removed his helmet, the wind of the skyscraper lashing his pale hair in his sweat-tinged face as he looked up to his older colleague, hoping for answers.]

Sky High-san, do you think it's wise we be so accepting of what we've been briefed on about this place?

[Pulling off his own helmet to look over at his colleague, Sky High ran a hand through his own sweat-laden hair. It was without a doubt nice to feel the coastal breeze up so high, despite the slight humidity and sun bearing down on them. While he's been told that Heropa was usually somewhat more temperate thanks to the marine layer that blew away the heat, today seemed particularly warm. Perhaps that was just because of the pressure he'd been enduring, being surrounded by so many people.

The way the light glinted off his helmet made him hold it to the side under his arm like a pilot might, his eyes taking everything in without his visor being in the way. Heropa was a nice little city, clearly tourist-oriented, if the smaller, family-owned shops in the downtown area were anything to go by. It surely wasn't as big as Nonah or one of the other cities around them, but in truth since he hadn't gone to any of those yet he didn't appear to really mind.

In truth, the weather made him feel heavier when he was riding through the air, but Sky High supposed that was to be expected if they were truly in Florida.

There was a soft, if thoughtful smile on his face. In truth anyone who wasn't Keith Goodman might have suspected something was amiss in all this, but he took his oath to protect people when they needed it the most seriously of all.]

We have no choice but to help these people, Origami. I don't doubt that there has to be some merit to what was told to us, or else what need of Heroes would they have? The need may be greater for now than even in Sternbild.

[No matter how bleak or dim the situation, Sky High always managed to rise himself up as an eternal beacon of hope. Origami felt a little of the burden of their plight lift from his shoulders, making him feel as light as he had been just a few moments ago when soaring through the sky.

A wry smile tugged at Origami's mouth, before he shyly rubbed the back of his head, feeling rather abashed at the warm, if not, elated feeling that welled up in him. Sky High really had a profound effect on people. It was really no wonder why he was considered King, no matter his official ranking.]

Perhaps you're right. I suppose the enthusiasm of the solicitors makes sense that way.

They may be so desperate they had to pull from different worlds simply to cull the crime situation. Ah..

[He bowed his head, realizing he might be being a bit presumptuous.]

But, that's just speculation.

[Even if it wasn't his intention, somehow he managed to keep calm and project himself with a voice of confidence. Of course he truly did believe that they were needed, but caution could still be utilized if they went about it the right way.]

Mm. The best solution may be to see if we cannot gather more information from the locals or the others they've brought here.

[That, of course, would probably be something they'd be able to grasp over time. Not that Keith was, by any means, a suspicious person, but he at least was willing to hear out his companion even if Ivan did not consider his own words worth listening to.]

For now, we may have to go along with what we were told.
