TEST DRIVE MEME

01. The city of Heropa is what one might expect from a small, bright and cheery place, where locals are friendly enough and local shop owners might offer a free drink to welcome you to their fair city. Some of the locals might thank you for always lending your service to the nation and others might not say anything. In fact, some people might back away from any imPort who quite obviously looks like they aren't from around the neighborhood. Once in a while there's a look of disdain on someone's face and hushed voices. An upset voice wonders aloud: "More of them, when we already know they can't protect us? That's just painting a bigger target on the city's back!" However, they're quickly hushed with a judgmental: "They helped save the cities, and it's the Soviets you should be angry with anyway! The imPorts are here to protect us!"

02. De Chima, Virginia, is a large city with a healthy economy, and though it's quieter, there are just as many citizens awed at your presence. Many people are out and about taking care of their regular business, but that doesn't distract them from crowding you in excitement if you're obviously from a different time or world, or just let it slip that you're a newcomer. Children and young teenagers are especially likely to ask for an autograph and a photo.

Some locals seem less enthused to see you. They never make an approach, but they can be overheard scoffing and muttering something about spies. "How can we trust any of them now?"

03. Maurtia Falls, Pennsylvania, is not as friendly and its citizens tend to go out of their way to avoid walking down the same sidewalk as the more obvious looking imPorts pass through. Local cops say nothing, but they scowl at those imPorts and mutter under their breaths resentfully about "vigilantes". However, not all locals turn the other way seeing imPorts; some of them will offer a polite enough smile and thank them for their help in overthrowing the trespassers. They don't stop to clarify what they mean, though.

04. Nonah, North Carolina, is the liveliest of all cities; loud, busy and there's some kind of energy in the air that gets everyone buzzing with excitement. Anyone who they come to determine an imPort is bombarded with all sorts of offers; job offers, advertising gigs, spokesperson for advocating children stay in school, etc. Anything and everything! You name it. Shops offer discounts for food and clothing, whatever they need. Advertisements are abound for imPorts to make appearances at various, televised celebrations, luring them in with promises of free food, merchandise, and payment.

[ It's not exactly the sort of reaction Hyunsoo was expecting. He thought the guy would either back off and run away or get more aggressive, which would end in.. well, Hyunsoo running for his life instead. He's not particularly manly enough to start up a fight with some random possibly armed thief, nope siree.

But instead this guy is doing neither. He's just standing there looking surprised? What about this is surprising, huh, does he expect peopel to just get robbed and not do anything about it?!

Just before he starts to ramble about it out loud, Yeong speaks up.. and makes this more confusing.

Does he know the other? Sure, there's been a lot of people he's only met in passing before he met Yukyun.. But if Yeong remembers him, then he should at least be able to remember the other. Yet no matter how deep he digs into his memory, he can't find it. ]

W-- what? [ He straightens his back a little, trying to appear taller (and mostly braver) than he is. ] Do you know me, huh? Trying to act all familiar?

[ Hyunsoo has absolutely no idea what's going on here, and honestly.. well, it shows. He's never been good at holding back even a single emotion. ]

I MEAN I NEVER REPLIED, SO WHO CAN BLAME YOU?

[ Standing tall won't do much when Yeong still has a good few inches on most people around him. It also doesn't do much good with Yeong knows an older version of Hyunsoo, and Hyunsoo's attempts to puff himself up don't seem that different to him than the much older vampire he happens to know.

He snorts at the attempt at a threatening question. It's actually almost cute... mostly it's still annoying. But a soft, human Hyunsoo trying so hard to seem tough. It's like a baby trying to make a mean face.

Yeong sighs and rubs the back of his neck. ]

Ahhh... this is going to be a pain. What's with you, hyung? Why are you like this?

[ Human again... Human and not recognizing him. He did hear something about time being strange here, but still... ]

Isn't this a little too much?

YOU'RE TOO GOOD TO ME....

[ He's still not entirely convinced this isn't some elaborate attempt to con him, but.. on the other hand, he does know people can end up here from other times. It's a fact he won't forget after that first dumb prank Yukyun pulled on him the moment the other arrived in this place - it's practically engraved into his mind. So there's the possibility that this guy knows him, but just.. a future version of him.

Not that it helps this situation much. He still doesn't know who this is. If it's in the future, then this guy probably has to be one of the vampires in Busan, right?

The only thing Hyunsoo can think of is take advantage of the fact that the other is at least referring to him as hyung - he isn't too sure how big their age gap is from just looking at the other, but whatever, he'll take it. ]

Y-- yah, if you're talking to your hyung, shouldn't you be providing the explanations first? [ Not that him pulling the hyung card seems very impressive after his display just now. Even now he's clinging onto that bag just a little bit too much, like he's still paranoid as hell.. Which he is.. He's no good at being tough in these kinds of situations. HIS HAND IS NOT TREMBLING A LITTLE, NO SIREE. ]

Are you saying you know.. [ Ugh. This is so weird. ] .. well, another me or whatever? Do you know Yukyun?

[ He figures it's safe enough to ask that, it's just a random name if this guy doesn't know who Yukyun is without giving anything away about vampires or anything. Just staying cautious. ]

Sometimes...

[ Look at Hyunsoo using those detective skills! He's right though, Yeong is exactly that, a vampire from Busan. Of course, he became one long after Hyunsoo, and Yeong likes to think of himself as more of a free agent playing under someone else's rules when it suits him...

That's a story for another time though, or maybe something he should never tell Hyunsoo at all. He knows that Yukyun has figured it out long ago, but with how loyal Hyunsoo is he might not take that kind of information well.

Not that he can do much to him as a soft, weak human. Man, it's weird to see him like this. Hyunsoo isn't exactly a serious threat to him normally, but he's still not used to seeing him so scared... at least not about rational things, like a guy that could snap your neck in half a second.

Yeong snorts at the question though, and flashes Hyunsoo a toothy grin, a really toothy grin that should answer that question for Hyunsoo. Well, maybe not, because being a vampire doesn't mean you know the king of Busan, but in context? Should be enough of an answer.

He drops the smile almost immediately, his face looking almost serious. ]

If you're the hyung shouldn't you be the one filling me in on what's going on? Isn't that your job?

[ That grin says more than anything else could. It's obviously as hell he's showing off those fangs, and if he's doing that right after Hyunsoo mentioned Yukyun.. well, that can only mean this guy is a vampire from his world but just from some other point in time.

.. one that knows him on top of everything. Probably from a time when Hyunsoo himself is already a vampire, considering he can't exactly imagine any of the vampires at the compound call him "hyung" while he's still like this, no matter the differences in physical age.

Usually he'd argue this point a little more and force Yeong to explain more first, but the thought makes him a little antsy.. Yeong is a vampire, and Hyunsoo sure isn't. And without knowing what Yeong is like and without Yukyun anywhere around right now, it plays into Hyunsoo's natural instinct when it comes to the vampires he meets - aka being wary and scared of all of them. It's just what happens when you're a sheep living among the wolves, no matter how well their leader protects you. ]

Look-- [ His tone sounds a little snappy, sure, but it's not really angry snappy. It's more scared snappy, like he's still contemplating whether he should stand here and explain this or just run away and make a dash for Yukyun's apartement. ]

This place somehow brings in people from different worlds and even different times.. kind of like in movies. [ It's the best explanation he has, alright?! ] That's why I have no clue who you are. I don't remember meeting you.

[ ... ]

Or.. well, yet, I guess.

[ And yet Yeong already gives him an uneasy feeling.. it's destiny, obviously. (Or rather, it's just that Hyunsoo is a natural weenie.) ]

[ Color Yeong impressed right now. It's not like Hyunsoo has ever been a stupid man, but he's so used to thinking of him in the most unflattering, ungenerous light possible. It does mean when Hyunsoo manages to place two and two together like this that Yeong is taken a little by surprise.

He raises his brows slowly at Hyunsoo's explanation. It makes as much sense as anything else around here (he guesses, not that it makes that much sense at all to him). At the very least Yeong is willing to go along with that explanation for now until a better one presents itself.

He lowers his brows now and lets his face sink into a neutral expression as he studies Hyunsoo carefully. How much does he even want to tell Hyunsoo? He could be honest, of course, but there's no real benefit of that for him. Hyunsoo will probably agitate him as a human just as much as he did when he was a vampire (possibly even more), but there's no need to start any hostility by mentioning how much they dislike each other. He could use Hyunsoo for now, and for that he needs Hyunsoo to feel at least mildly inclined to help him. ]

Ahh... something that sounds completely impossible... but so does traveling to another world, and...

[ Yeong makes a sweeping gesture around them. Impossible, but here they are. ]

It's weird, but it's what's happening.

[ Hyunsoo's death grip on the bag he's holding is slowly starting to ease up a little. It's not like he's completely comfortable with Yeong or anything, but at least that reaction.. well, it's a pretty normal one. It's basically Hyunsoo's reaction to anything that goes on in this place by now. Sure, it's all weird and ridiculous as hell and completely impossible, but once the weird things start piling up, you just make up a seperate category for them in your mind and shove them all in there. And then just never look back at them.

He's a little more used to vampires being a little more scary - even if there's not really due to no vampires aroun Busan being normal, and more that Hyunsoo is so easy and fun to troll that a lot of them can't help but scare the shit out of them at least once.

So compared to that? Well, Yeong is being a lot better to him.. by just not being terrible to him. Low standards.

It's probably the reason why he feels at least a little more confident - or confident enough - to speak further: ]

.. Yukyun is here too. So don't pull anything weird. [ Not that Hyunsoo really has any power to enforce anything himself, he's just a human.. if Yeong jumped him right now, he wouldn't be able to do anything about it. But he knows the threat of the local vampire king is enough to keep most vampires relatively at bay, no matter what kind of vampire Yeong might be. ]
