the in-universe ao3 meme

Inspired by the "ship names for our CR" meme going around now because I won't even lie, it's pretty simple! Tell us what ships exist for your characters in game, who they're often shipped with, who they're shipped with by a really weird section of their fandom, etc. etc. Feel free to tell us the ship names, the ship wars, talk about notorious and/or highly praised fic and fanartists, etc etc! Or if you have characters who would eat this stuff like popcorn, you can list their favorites, too. All of this can be as detailed or brief as you feel up to sharing. And maybe someone will write you a fic WHO KNOWS WHAT COULD HAPPEN
SHIPS: What are the popular ones? The less popular ones? The really weird small group that ships X/Y?
KINKS: From the normal to the weird, what do they get into in the world of imPort fic?
FANDOM: Do they have a name? Do they fight over the "real" name?
SO WRONG, SO RIGHT: What aspects of the characters do they get well? Which ones are usually cast aside in the name of steamy smut?
ANYTHING ELSE: Seriously let loose, how many manips are out there of them and their archenemy, them in flower crowns, WHATEVER

KINKS: nnnnnnnope!
FANDOM: Kipper is a thing. Fish images included.
SO WRONG, SO RIGHT: Dipper comes off as much more delinquent than he is thanks to his public exploits with Mabel. Ken is very much considered the cool one in the relationship which isn't... wrong.
ANYTHING ELSE: Their Ferris wheel date was all over Rumblr. Lots of theories about why Ken had a weird red mark on his face. Some people still wonder if Noodle's in the picture. Speculation about where they're going to high school runs rampant in some circles.
no subject
his hatred of Noodle if he discovered a merman AU of Kipper with surprise guest merNoodle...
no subject
Sometimes Dipper thinks Noodle might be the true merspy.
Jesse Pinkman #i found this cinnamon roll in the garbage #smol puppy #protect at all costs
KINKS: Hurt/Comfort is huge, given his power set. Sissification is another big one. Jesse is always the sub but that's not enough. He has to be girly, too.
FANDOM: Refer to themselves as "Bitches" or specifically "Jesse's Bitches". The teen girls copy his scorpion tattoo onto their hand in sharpie.
SO WRONG, SO RIGHT: His public image focuses so heavily on the "reformed drug addict" aspect of his personality that everyone assumes he's much more submissive and vanilla than he actually is. "Pink Sky" fic in particular paints him as overly romantic and sweet, a perfect cinnamon roll who can do no wrong. Nobody can seem to imagine him in a dominating role, especially not in M/M ships, where he's cast as the girliest twink who ever got fucked. Hilariously, no fic out there has ever been nearly as dirty as his real sex life.
ANYTHING ELSE: This fandom is super tiny compared to other imPorts' fandoms. There's not a ton of content out there. Aside from fic, there are quite a few "Pink Sky" fanvids featuring old footage of Jesse and Skye's public appearances and instagram photos from before their breakup (of which the fandom is in complete denial).

SHIPS: Francis/Saul versus Francis/Sabriel. There's a ship war. Fans of The Good Ship of State point out that Francis and Sabriel have absolutely zero chemistry. Francis and Sabriel don't have a ship name, partially because it would kinda sound like their opponent's and partially because they prefer to characterise the pair as Extremely Proper. They accuse Francis/Saul of having daddy issues and misogyny. Rare pairs are Francis/Olivier and Francis/Pinkman. They're in the chill part of the fandom.
KINKS: Pretty much everyone in fact has daddy issues. Francis is very paternalistic and is often the comfort side of hurt comfort. He's apparently into domming too.
FANDOM: They don't, which is lucky because they'll only fight over that as well.
SO WRONG, SO RIGHT: They either get him really right or really wrong. Sometimes they forget he has a sense of humour at all, but he does tend to take a paternal aspect to his lovers when he takes them so they get that right. But the Sabriel/Francis shippers particularly have him as dry as mud. Not that the Good Ship is innocent of that, they often have Saul be the one to 'introduce' him to funniness?
ANYTHING ELSE: When they're not fighting with each other, they're calling themselves trash, variously calling him daddy/grandfather depending on age and flailing about how gross they are. The art is very anime. And Francis is usually the one with yoai hands.
Flynn:
SHIPS: Right now, there only a few Flynn/OC fics. He's matched with a couple of healer imPorts, but that's half-hearted and not really shipped.
KINKS: H/C Adventure gen
FANDOM: Not yet.
SO WRONG, SO RIGHT: Some of the fics are ableist fix him fic, which have started to be called out. And there are a few 'I'm proud of my disability' fics in response. They don't really have a handle of his characterisation yet and it varies from fic to fic and is prone to blandness and self-insertion.
ANYTHING ELSE: At this stage, it's most a picture fandom. Flower crowns pop up, alongside with posters sighing at his looks. He is their dream date in a Disney sort of way.
I have no self-control

Popular: Newt/Hermann is obviously canon/endgame
Less Common: Newt/Qubit, Newt/Joaquin, Newt/Kang, there's probably some Newt/Miles somewhere (Newt/Greg would be interesting)
Weird: everything with Newt is weird. Is the other imPort a nonhuman/alien? someone ships Newt with them. (have they met? doesn't matter) - some people still ship him with Claire for raising a dino together even though Claire is gone and therefore the ship has sank; I would not be surprised if the trade of small-dragon resulted in Newt/Kavinsky as a ship, age difference issues aside
KINKS: baby, when it's love, if it's not rough it isn't fun. Newt-ships are heavy on dosages of Newt pain.
FANDOM: "Kaiju grrroupies" or just "grrroupies" but the roll of the r is a must
SO WRONG, SO RIGHT: recasting him into some kind of weepy yaoi trope. self-insert stuff
ANYTHING ELSE:
I did this to justify making a flower crown iconNewt/Joaquin has a weirdly huge underground fanbase. There are very few het ships for him, if for no other reason than he just keeps striking out with the ladiesno subject
KINKS: GOD if I gotta be frank - nothing really. A large majority of fanfic comes from underage girls, so there's probably not much of kink?
That I want to consider without any brain bleach anywayFANDOM: Grimey Gals. So far, they are a very unified fan group. No drama
yetSO WRONG, SO RIGHT: Everyone knows Carl came from an zombie apocalypse, so they pull out the angst card hard from what they know of Carl's now circulating English paper in Maurita Falls about Carl's life. So sometimes they go a little far, like killing off his friends or father here in MoM or in some fictionized version of Carl's world, with just Carl and the reader. But lately people have noticed a change in Carl's appearance due to the lack of eye and start to give him a "brooding" look, like a dark edge-lord or something.
ANYTHING ELSE: OH THERE IS SERIOUSLY SOME FLOWER CROWNS ON THAT HEAD. And a lot of his fans like to call him "My son!", hahah.
no subject
KINKS: everything. :c
FANDOM: half pretentious English majors, half teenager. I imagine there's a few people who just wandered into the crazy because of his band and are now just like "NOPE, NOT GONNA DEAL WITH THIS."
SO WRONG, SO RIGHT: the mainstream fandom underestimates how much of a whiny baby Dorian is, to which the literary fandom just grins from their high tower and provides receipts. source text, suckas.
ANYTHING ELSE: god, the fact that Dorian tries to grab attention from the internet by gaming the system REALLY ISN'T HELPING MATTERS (soooooo many selfies and artistic pictures on his blog that may or may not have come from weheartit). thrust into unintentional celebrity, well he is gonna grab it while it's hot, pay attention to him everybody.
AND I AM TAKING OUT MY DOCTOR BIT AND MAKING AN ADDENDUM COMMENT BECAUSE I JUST THOUGHT OF SOMETHING WONDERFUL.
no subject
KINKS: he's old so like, ageplay is just there by default, lbr.
FANDOM: OKAY SO THIS IS THE GOOD IDEA I THOUGHT OF because let's be honest, p-cap is a bit of a silver fox. so basically, grandmas and wine moms. He works at a watch shop, he's good friends with the older owners, there's just so many old people that come to the watch shop and please stop eyeing him up Linda, you're seventy and he's an alien. so like, no organized tumblr/ao3 fandom but just facebook groups. So many facebook groups and they all type like grandmas and I'm so charmed just by the idea of it. But also like, the conspiracy theorists who are gonna have a field day because of the pull-point plot.
SO WRONG, SO RIGHT: those poor grandmas are in for a shock when they discover how truly grumpy the Doctor is. :c he's also used as a plot device for hijinks to happen more than a character in actual fics because you ruin a swear-in one time...
ANYTHING ELSE: the Doctor, of course, is entirely oblivious to all of this but the grandmas are better than the last group of fanpeople he had to deal with, you be you grandmas.

...With one glaring exception: Luggage/Rincewind. Yes, it is real and it is weird. The fandom has largely humanized Luggage (and there's always some bullshit magical backstory as to how it gets a human form, lots of fics of Rincewind reading the wrong spell, or finding out it's his guardian angel/familiar/demon) as - strangely enough - a slim, generically handsome, vaguely British blonde dude. This pairing tends to woobify Rincewind to ridiculous extremes (which is not uncommon in his fandom), and largely makes the Luggage a somewhat stoic, silent protector, but sometimes casts it as a highly jealous, sadistic guardian whose violent tendencies can only be ~tamed~ by Rincewind. The fandom hasn't settled on a humanized name for the Luggage yet, but two big name contenders are Luke and Chester. There has recently been some fandom in-fighting over whether it's problematic to assume that the Luggage is white and male.
KINKS: Import/Rincewind fics tend to involve lots and lots of hurt/comfort, and there are a fair number of fics with the kinks that accompany capture/imprisonment (bondage, bdsm, brainwashing, etc. Fics with brainwashing tend to spark long forum discussions on whether it's tasteful to use that for kink given recent events). Drug use is strangely a large one as well (there is a select, "edgy" side of the fandom that has taken his skinny build and twitchy manner as justification to always give Rincewind a drug habit), and a lot of rarer kinks sprout up now and again because they can use the "magic gone wrong" trope to justify it. (The fandom is not yet aware that Rincewind can't actually do magic.)
Reader/Rincewind fics are by far the most vanilla of the bunch, with lots of fluff. They generally just involve the reader comforting Rincewind, building up his self esteem, or the Reader being apprenticed by him in the ways of magic (and then using it to save him/the world from something).
FANDOM: They generally call themselves - to no one's great surprise - "Wizzards". Pointy hats and stars are favored ways to show one's fandom allegiance.
SO WRONG, SO RIGHT: Fandom by and large tends to downplay any sense of power or agency Rincewind might have in favor of overplaying his anxiety in a multitude of wildly varying ways. He is mopey and ~haunted by his past~ in some fics (a past which changes constantly), plagued by addiction, desperately lonely and hungry for romance, a quiet, sensitive nerd, or (hilariously) hiding a Dark Side and seeking redemption. As a whole the fandom seems to agree that Rincewind is actually an incredibly heroic figure who downplays his own abilities out of modesty, self-esteem issues, or that imagined Tragic Past.
A lot of fics also assume he's a virgin and involve some imPort woman or man teaching him How To Love.
ANYTHING ELSE: Funnily enough, a lot of current manips aren't even that risque, they're just an excuse to have Rincewind in normal clothing and without his hat.

ADDENDUM:
The older side of the fandom tries to be conscientious of these young, watching eyes and encourage use of the alternate tag 'Rincewand' when putting smutty art and fic on Rumblr.

KINKS: He's generally the woobie, it's a plague. But if anyone wants femdom, then April/Will fandom has that for you. Same with the Freddie/Will. Pretty much Will and any woman is femdom. Dudes involve a lot of hurt/comfort or "oh no we're drunk and you're a hot dude" set ups. Conveniently getting 2 drunk and having to stay over in guest rooms and THINGS HAPPEN. There is also a LOT of fic that involves intimate shaving because of course there is.
FANDOM: April/Will calls themselves "Canon" because they're right, and then when people ot3 April/Jeff/Will it's "Canon ot3" because THEY'RE RIGHT!!! Crane/Will has a mostly dusty tag of HMS Birddog and all the Edgeworth/Will fans fondly refer to themselves as Wedgies. They used to fight the Yuri/Will group for Justice Bros before shit went down. Now that tag rots.
SO WRONG, SO RIGHT: He cries a lot. And never falls in love because his heart HAS BEEN BROKEN TOO MANY TIMES BEFORE so he ends up crying more about that. If April hasn't been Ported out in the fic, he spends time referring to her as "that bitch" or thinking about how awful she was, clearly the most abusive. This sparks a lot of heated discussion online from the Canon group, they fight about it sometimes, flooding tags with pictures of dogs and raccoons or fast food until the other side kowtows for a few weeks. But most of them recognize his shitty fashion sense and always have him in plaid because that's too integral a part of him to mess with.
ANYTHING ELSE: March is new but he'll probably fall in the category of "look he's so eager and weirdly old timey so he's just happy to get laid at all!!!" until people catch onto what he is, and then he'll basically have one of those serial killer fandoms that descends on people who dare say "serial killer fandom is weird" with all sorts of "OH LIKE YOU'RE PERFECT??? YEAH SAY IT TO MY FACE!!!" and he'll have 0 clue because what is Google.

KINKS: People see the leather jacket and the motorcycle and decide that she must be a huge dom. This is a claim she will neither confirm nor deny.
FANDOM: A lot of girls and young women calling her #MYQUEEN and copying her fashion sense and using her quotes as rumblr blog titles. Ship names involve the words "space" and "time" mashed up with a word representing the other party.
SO WRONG, SO RIGHT: She tends to show up as this bossy bravado lesbian who's here to Steal Yo Girl. Also, there's a lot of Dark Clara AU stuff based on her reckless nature. What's right and wrong is a fine line where these things are concerned.
ANYTHING ELSE: Honestly a lot of the fanart and stuff for her is focused less on shipping and more on just her. She's a bit of a symbol of power and freedom for girls, and people do a lot of art and edits of her with her smokey raven wings, or in the iconic waitress costume she was wearing when she showed back up in December. Clara's a bit idealized in fandom, and it causes her some discomfort.

KINKS: He is a Universal Bottom. No matter who he's paired with, he's always this massive sub, and the nervous doe-eyed receiving end of any and all imaginable kinks.
FANDOM: Mainly young teenage girls who call him their #PRECIOUSPUPPY and dream about meeting a sweet, sensitive guy like him... or moms. He has a lot of mom fans. A somewhat disturbing amount, actually. Everyone wishes he would jump in front of a bus for them.
SO WRONG, SO RIGHT: George is either turned into this useless, dopey plot device, in fics where Sarah is Too Good For Him, or overblown into a heroic prince figure. His dramatic temper is the one thing entirely ignored by fandom - he only ever whines or ~~understands~~, he never actually gets mad at people.
ANYTHING ELSE: thx grl

Sabriel
Because Sabriel's been in the public eye for so long she's gotten shipped with a lot of imPorts. Including some she's only spoken to once, or never. She often shows up in other fics as either a supportive friend or a source of Plot Device Magic.
KINKS: In one word? Magic. Including things that she's not actually capable of- imPort fandom in general is fond of her being a source for love-spells and aphrodisiac magic, along with many, many creative applications for spells. A small subset of fandom is fond of shipping her with undead imPorts for hatesex and creative applications of necromancy.
FANDOM: Sabriel's fandom is mostly teens and twentysomethings, but thanks to her involvement in stopping multiple incidents and her membership in RISE, she has a pretty wide fanbase. A lot of the younger ones started drawing imitation Charter marks on their forehead, but Sabriel's started to politely ask them to stop.
SO WRONG, SO RIGHT: Aside from generally misunderstanding how her magic works?
Fic generally depicts her as either an ice queen who needs someone to melt her cold shell and is incredibly sweet but angsty about her powers underneath, or as a friendly but firm young woman who is totally confident and not at all awkward. Both interpretations overlap in depicting her as an absolute badass, and way more supportive of the government than she actually is.
ANYTHING ELSE: Along with shipping, Sabriel's got a lot of genfic- sometimes as part of an ensemble with RISE, sometimes with other imPorts, and often shows up as a plot device-. She shows up in a lot of self-insert fics to either teach magic or give characters magical items.
Her fanbase is pretty large, although a lot of it overlaps with other fandoms. She's actually got a lot of fanvids, but most of them of her in action involve fairly low quality footage, due to her magic's effect on technology.
Chloe
clonessisters in wildly varying ways. All her ships are gay ships no one is surprised.KINKS: Chloe's general attitude of take no shit has given people the impression that she's something of a dom, and combined with Max being generally so nice and friendly and worrying about everyone has only amplified this. They generally seem to assume she's into 'weird shit.' Which she thinks is hilarious. (Chloe reads her own fanfic, of course she does.)
FANDOM: Chloe is very popular among the 'disaffected teens' demographic, for her tattoo and cursing and not caring about things and generally coming off like the badass they all secretly wish they were. Teens can be seen drawing copies of her tattoo on their arms, trying to match her lazy but punk clothing style, and copies of her beanie keep selling out! (She's all the rage at whatever Hot Topic is here.)
As for shipping, there are two main 'camps!' Pricefield, the people that have been shipping Chloe and Max, and the 'Anything but Pricefield', made up mostly of people that liked Max before Chloe turned up, and shipped her with other people, and generally think Chloe is a bad influence and a disaster for Max. Fics tend to be either weird D/S stuff, lovey idealism, or sexy trash full of drama and hurt/comfort, or emotional disasters where Chloe ruins everything and Max breaks up with her to find her own freedom in the world being so strong and independent while Chloe is left sad and alone.
There's also a decent chunk of 'reader/chloe' where they meet and go on some kind of crazy road trip adventure.
SO WRONG, SO RIGHT: Generally Chloe's emotions are played up to being hardcore and tough and leave out all of the actual parts of her where she's insecure and kind of a derp and makes terrible decisions.
Also, now that her butterfly power is public, fandom keeps assuming she has secret butterfly powers and there's a subset of 'magical girl chloe price' where she turns into some kind of butterfly sailor moon rip off crime fighter.
ANYTHING ELSE: She is becoming a go-to for parents who want to point to imports as being a bad influence on their children! Because...she is. Basically a bad influence. Oops? And the fanfic is not helping!

KINKS: Vampirism + everything, just about.
FANDOM: Still doesn't have a name since they're not very united and come from a variety of backgrounds, though he has some earlier non-Dorian shipper followers are somewhat elitist and like to distinguish themselves from those who came along the Dorian shipper bandwagon. There's a small but dedicated following that does hurt/comfort Lucy/Toby that the rest of fandom shuns because what is this het stuff?
SO WRONG, SO RIGHT: Half the time, Toby is portrayed as a sweet, doe-eyed bottom who can do no wrong. But to be fair, how many people know Toby can be such a passive aggressive arsehole? Others play up Toby's sweet demeanour until he gets to the bedroom, where he's a shirt-rippingly wild, kinky, and irresistible dom! Whereas Toby himself is pretty versatile regarding his position in the bedroom. There's also a lot of break-up and make-up Dorian/Toby fics, many of which underestimate Toby's possessiveness over, loyalty to, and dependence on Dorian. And no one knows where to stand on Toby's vampirism since they don't really know his range of abilities (or lack thereof in the MoMverse), though there are some fics where Toby is magically freed from Sabriel's binding spell or whatever.
Addendum re: Lucy/Toby fic - if it's not hurt/comfort, then it's either corruption or healing fic, where Toby gets Lucy to be a naughty girl, or Lucy turns Toby into a good boy.
ANYTHING ELSE: The deletion and later reemergence of Toby's rumblr in March has certainly caused quite a stir among fans!

, Jeff/Lucifer), so, while she does get shipped with them, it's always as a rare pair. There's like one person out there shipping Elsa/Hawke and they need to stop.KINKS: Creative use of magic, mostly. Though no one seems particularly clear on how her magic works, so it's always like, "and then Elsa did a spell and [insert character here] was tied up." Public sex and drunk sex are common and a lot of people like to write in a career change so that she dances instead of tending bar.
FANDOM: She's mostly popular with the Maurtia Falls party crowd. Aside from the occasional fic, people generally try to snap pics of her in clubs or take drunk selfies with her. It's not a very large or cohesive fandom, so they don't have a recognized name.
SO WRONG, SO RIGHT: In general, people tend to write her as a giggling bimbo and not nearly as intelligent (or sadistic) as she actually is. And none of the porn is kinky enough, tbh. Elsa/'Matthew Lin' fics from back in the day in particular were weirdly tame since his demonic nature was not common knowledge.
ANYTHING ELSE: Sometimes used in gen fic or fics for other ships as a plot device for why everyone is wasted. Popular tags for pictures of her on rumblr are #HOT mess, #such a lush, and #trashprincess
