HE TOLD ME SEVERAL TIMES THAT HE DIDN'T LIKE MY KIND

TEST DRIVE MEME
Considering apping into MASK OR MENACE? Want to dip your toes into the setting and get a feel of whether your character will fit into it? Or maybe you're just cruising and want to play around? Then you've come to the right place!
Pick any of the following scenarios below or feel free to make up your own, but don't be afraid to throw yourself at someone else's thread, either!
And remember to have fun!01. The city of Heropa is what one might expect from a small, bright and cheery place, where locals are friendly enough and local shop owners might offer a free drink to welcome you to their fair city. Some of the locals might thank you for always lending your service to the nation and others might not say anything. In fact, some people might back away from any imPort who quite obviously looks like they aren't from around the neighborhood. Once in a while there's a look of disdain on someone's face and hushed voices.
An upset, deeply masculine voice wonders aloud: "More of them, when we already know they can't protect us? That's just painting a bigger target on the city's back!"
"That's just what Ronald Chump says!" Exclaims a young woman. She raises her fist in anger at the imPort-hating individual. "We're not going to tolerate bigots here!"
02. De Chima, Virginia, is a large city with a healthy economy, and though it's quieter, there are just as many citizens awed at your presence. Science and technology are the lifeblood of this city, so you're likely to come across a good many locals taking your picture with the newest of devices. Be forewarned: since FanPort happened, imPort fandom is at a new height. Don't be surprised if people start following you just to see if you'll do anything TMZ-worthy.
The trick is to stay calm, and don't wig out if someone asks what you think about imPort shipping.
03. Maurtia Falls, Pennsylvania, is having a rainy day. The streets seem to be running with water, the sky can't seem to stop crying. You might want to check out some consumerism-inclined shelter, be that a smoky and dart-eyed bar full of grumbling locals, or a grimy and industrial coffee shop (full of grumbling locals). Watch your step, newly minted imPort, because if you let on that you're fresh meat then you're likely to attract a posse of two or three sharp knuckled no-good-dooers. This is the criminally exciting part of town, so beware.
04. Nonah, North Carolina, is the liveliest of all cities; loud, busy and there's some kind of energy in the air that gets everyone buzzing with excitement. There's a baseball game going on in one of the parks amidst all those tall buildings, and you're welcome to watch! It's not an official game in the season, it's more like a friendly skirmish between local baseball teams. Midway through the game, the umpire might take note of you new imPorts -- assuming you're standing out in the crowd. He'll welcome you to throw a pitch if you'd like! Of course, the opposing team isn't too keen on the idea. Better look for more imPorts to play ball!
Ruby/Red Riding Hood | Once Upon a Time
[Wig out? Ha! Ruby is happily answering SURVEY questions about a number of popular imPort ships. There are pictures and everything.]
Seriously? Just subtext? You can't tell me these two aren't a couple. Look at the way they're looking at each other! And they're practically holding hands too.
[She turns to whoever is standing nearby.]
You see it, right?
03. Maurtia Falls
[Please and thank you to whichever deity blessed a wandering wolf with this dingy dive bar. Who even cares about the smell, really?]
Barkeep, give me a shot of your finest-- er... [She checks her pockets.] A shot of your cheapest hooch, please. I'm feeling fancy today.

[Daryl said, coming up behind her as he fished out a couple bills. He'd managed to acquire some cash
stole tips off a cafe tableearlier in the day and could really use a beer. And from the way a few of the other people in the bar were eyeing her over her giddy smile and far too happy attitude, he figured it would be better to make it seem like she was with him. Less of an easy target. He leaned in toward her as he put the money on the bar and murmured into her ear so only she'd catch his words:]
You're standing out too much, sunshine. Making these folks nervous. Keep your voice down, grab your beer, and follow me to a table.
[For all that he'd leaned in so close, he didn't actually touch her or assume he had a right to. Just picked up his bottle and headed off.]

Men, right?
[After which she grabs her beer and slowly heads over to join the possibly paranoid stranger at his table.]
So...

[He gave the explanation with a shrug of his shoulders. He hadn't really wanted to see her get jumped. He wasn't sure he'd be able to take on that many guys at once and he definitely wouldn't have held back on killing blows if it came down to it. Which probably would have gotten him into all sorts of trouble.]
Name's Daryl. Hop a squat and enjoy your drink.
[Daryl pushed the chair opposite him out with his foot and nodded for her to take it.]

[She takes the seat, but makes sure she looks huffy about it!!]
I can take care of myself, you know. And I'm too happy because there is finally alcohol in front of me. It has been a hell of a day.
[Speaking of which, she is going to take a drink finally.]

[The apology was genuine as he dropped his head and pulled his beer closer, kept his eyes on the table. He hadn't meant to offend. Just didn't like the idea of someone looking like her having to deal with a bunch of guys looking like them. He'd practically had flashbacks to when he'd hit bars with Merle and all the shit that went down at them. The women that got harassed.]
I can leave you be if you'd like.
no subject
No, it's fine. You were trying to help.
[She glances over at some of the bigger, scowlier fellas in the bar.]
If it was anybody else, they could've gotten into some real trouble there. You don't have to worry about me though. I'm tougher than I look.
And you can call me Ruby, by the way.
no subject
I would've had trouble with that many.
[He admitted. It was the largest factor in his reasoning. Because if he had trouble, it followed that most people would. Course that was logic based on his world. He'd been told others had powers that made them far more threatening than they looked.
Trying to ease the tension he was pretty much responsible for, he glanced up at her and attempted a smirk that didn't stay long because of his sudden nerves.]
Maybe I should ask you to watch my back, instead of the other way around.
no subject
Maybe we can both look out for each other.
[She actually smiles a little.]
I am so very new in town and so very lost right now.
no subject
At her oh-so-innocent statement he eyed her for a moment before giving a snort of amusement. The smirk graced his lips again and this time it stayed.]]
Can't be that lost if you beelined for a bar. You checked out your government assigned housing yet?
[[The housing bit was said with a hefty amount of sarcasm.]]

I spent the last few months on a, um... a sort of backpacking trip? A lot of camping out, occasionally stopping by small towns. It's been a while since I've seen an actual city.
no subject
[What that 'everything' was, he wasn't in the mood to elaborate on.]
Been about three years for me, since I been in a city like this.
[Meaning one with living people.]
Been doing my own bit of camping and traveling with my family.

[She looks toward the door like maybe her favorite tiny, heavily-armored grouch is going to be summoned by the mention of her.]
I'm not sure if she made it here with me or not.

Yeah, uh. They're real cute.
no subject
Right? Apparently, there's a whole survey thing going on about this stuff. You wanna check it out?
no subject
[ Can you see the murder in her eyes, Ruby? Can you? ]
Sounds like a fun time.
no subject
Yeah, I know. It really would be if we didn't already have plans.
[She smiles at the person with the survey.]
Sorry. Some other time maybe?
[Then she heads off with a wave and a little skip in her step, giving a brief tug to Sarah's elbow.]

no subject
Sorry about that.

I didn't know you were a celebrity or whatever.
