01. The city of Heropa is what one might expect from a small, bright and cheery place, where locals are friendly enough and local shop owners might offer a free drink to welcome you to their fair city. Some of the locals might thank you for always lending your service to the nation and others might not say anything. In fact, some people might back away from any imPort who quite obviously looks like they aren't from around the neighborhood. Once in a while there's a look of disdain on someone's face and hushed voices.

An upset, deeply masculine voice wonders aloud: "More of them, when we already know they can't protect us? That's just painting a bigger target on the city's back!"

"That's just what Ronald Chump says!" Exclaims a young woman. She raises her fist in anger at the imPort-hating individual. "We're not going to tolerate bigots here!"

02. De Chima, Virginia, is a large city with a healthy economy, and though it's quieter, there are just as many citizens awed at your presence. Science and technology are the lifeblood of this city, so you're likely to come across a good many locals taking your picture with the newest of devices. Be forewarned: since FanPort happened, imPort fandom is at a new height. Don't be surprised if people start following you just to see if you'll do anything TMZ-worthy.

The trick is to stay calm, and don't wig out if someone asks what you think about imPort shipping.

03. Maurtia Falls, Pennsylvania, is having a rainy day. The streets seem to be running with water, the sky can't seem to stop crying. You might want to check out some consumerism-inclined shelter, be that a smoky and dart-eyed bar full of grumbling locals, or a grimy and industrial coffee shop (full of grumbling locals). Watch your step, newly minted imPort, because if you let on that you're fresh meat then you're likely to attract a posse of two or three sharp knuckled no-good-dooers. This is the criminally exciting part of town, so beware.

04. Nonah, North Carolina, is the liveliest of all cities; loud, busy and there's some kind of energy in the air that gets everyone buzzing with excitement. There's a baseball game going on in one of the parks amidst all those tall buildings, and you're welcome to watch! It's not an official game in the season, it's more like a friendly skirmish between local baseball teams. Midway through the game, the umpire might take note of you new imPorts -- assuming you're standing out in the crowd. He'll welcome you to throw a pitch if you'd like! Of course, the opposing team isn't too keen on the idea. Better look for more imPorts to play ball!

[Briar adjusts his grip on the pottery dish again. Supposedly just in a way that suggests his hands are getting tired, but also to keep a decent grip on it and be able to reach for his knives if need be.

[ Homeboy here has NO CLUE what bonsai is, so Medraut can't help but look a little bit impressed as he looks over the plant. His hands are placed firmly behind his back, one hand grasping the other as he leans in to get a better look.

Magic, though...that's interesting. And fake. But still, this world apparently gave them inhuman powers, maybe magic isn't as fake as he thinks. ]

I assume that you have the shakkan because you practice magic yourself?

['Practice' is an odd way to phrase it, but Briar puts it down to a cultural difference]

I'm an accredited mage, if I didn't practice now and then I wouldn't be any good.

[ Aaaaaaand that just makes him even more confused. ]

Pardon my confusion, but where I'm from magic doesn't exist in the first place. And yet your world has an accreditation system?

[Briar blinks, shocked enough to drop his bravado for a moment]

What-none?
No healers, or garden magics, or seers, or anti-theft spells?

.....How do you get on with anything?

[ Medruat can't help but laugh a little, shaking his head at Briar's sheer confusion. ]

We get along fine! I suppose we use a different set of skills to get those things done—a doctor heals, a gardener works on the garden. There are rumors that there used to be a seer in the king's court, but I never believed that in the first place.

[Frankly, the idea of no healers and no green magic makes him shudder inside, but perhaps one becomes accustomed when one doesn't know better]

Well...of course you gotta accredit a mage. Elsewise you'd get everyone going around not having their magic under control, and things would get messy.

Treating it like any other sort of skill...you know that makes perfect sense, especially if you wish to open up your own practice. [ though that opens up another question ]

Can one open up their own practice with magic?

Naturally, how else would I earn a living?

[mymarksman]

How would I know? [ said with a little grin on his face. ] Perhaps you work a trade but practice magic on the side!

You'd be surprised how much adding magic marks up the price of something. [his grin is a tad predatory]

But I do work a trade, [Briar indicates the shakkan] magic is involved a bit.

That's simply being a thrifty businessman, [ he teases, with a smile. As for the trade question, ]

So your trade has something to do with the shakkan which store magic. Are you an herbalist or something like that?

My magic's with plants and green things that grow. Very useful for making medicines and shaping which way a tree will grow.

[Perfectly safe and ordinary, that's him]

In that case, I expect us to have plenty of lengthy conversations. One of my specialties is medicines as well—specifically herbal remedies.

[ medieval times, you gotta have herbal remedies (either that or leeches) ]

Really? What sort of herbs? Some of the ones I've spotted here I don't recognize.

[ Oh and Medraut's eyes are just glimmering with interest as well. He's just SUPER excited as he talks plants ]

I've spotted a few that I don't recognize either, but there are some like chamomile and thyme that seem to be found everywhere—oh! And the aloe plant as well, I've seen a few people with it on their porch.

Thank the Green Man for that, I don't know what I would have done if aloe wasn't around. Very useful, that.

Heaven knows I'd be in the same predicament, [ said with a small little laugh. ] Any comfort of familiarity is good.
