TEST DRIVE MEME

Considering apping into MASK OR MENACE? Want to dip your toes into the setting and get a feel of whether your character will fit into it? Or maybe you're just cruising and want to play around? Then you've come to the right place!

Pick any of the following scenarios below or feel free to make up your own, but don't be afraid to throw yourself at someone else's thread, either!

And remember there's only one rule in Test Drive Meme Club: have fun!

01. The city of Heropa is what one might expect from a small, bright and cheery place, where locals are friendly enough and local shop owners might offer a free drink to welcome you to their fair city. Some of the locals might thank you for always lending your service to the nation, while others might not say anything -- but if you have something nasty to say, better not say anything at all, right? But on closer inspection of these Silent Stanleys and Stellas, you might notice that some people actually back away from any imPort who quite obviously looks like they aren't "from around the neighborhood". Once in a while, you may hear a voice raised:

"Did you see how visible their elections have become? They're just trying to grab power! Have you seen the homes they live in?

Of course, for every claim, there's a rebuttal; you may well hear a competing voice arguing, "They deserve to have a say in things too! You know it's different for them!"

ImPorts are a divisive issues, even in pretty Heropa.

02. De Chima, Virginia, is a large city with a healthy economy, and though it's quieter, there are just as many citizens awed at your very presence. Look at you! Organic wonder! Science and technology are the lifeblood of this city, so you're likely to come across a good many locals taking your picture with the newest of devices. The imPort craze is at an all-time high, and considering the ambition of many of De Chima's residents, you may find yourself cornered by overzealous imPort fans, media wannabes and opportunists alike, shoving cameras in your face.

Their questions are less politically charged than they are mundane, however; get ready for an interview about your taste in romantic partners, personal underwear choices, favourite foods, and more!

03. Maurtia Falls, Pennsylvania, is having a rainy day. The streets seem to be running with water, the sky can't seem to stop crying. You might want to check out some consumerism-inclined shelter, be that a smoky and dart-eyed bar full of grumbling locals, or a grimy and industrial coffee shop (full of grumbling locals). Watch your step, newly minted imPort, because if you let on that you're fresh meat then you're bound to find a few people who decide that the only proper welcome for an imPort is a nice set of knuckles to the face.

One or two more cowardly locals may hesitate before giving you such a greeting, however, with a muttered, "Wonder if the new guy in office is gonna do more than the last one."

Ouch. Look at the political savvy on this guy!

04. Nonah, North Carolina, is the liveliest of all cities; loud, busy and there's some kind of energy in the air that gets everyone buzzing with excitement. You may find yourself in the midst of a few closed-off streets for some occasion or another - whether it be a food cart festival, no-car day, or something else! - and surrounded by the hum of people, the waft of food being served on the street, and plenty of attention

Look there -- someone's demoing a VR roller coaster! Won't you give it a shot?

[Ugh. Gonna have these types of "heroes" here, too, huh? Sad thing is, if the record was the same here as back home people would probably know his name before Saitama's.]

Yeah? Well, good luck with that.

[He sounds a bit dead-pan, maybe even sarcastic.]

I oughta get something good if I'm on an Earth that's not even MY Earth.

[Leading Saitama down the street, then down another and another to where some apartments are. Not the worst but nothing special either. About in par with what Saitama himself had back home.]

I guess ending up back home without the others would have been unfair to them anyway.

I see.

[There was a beat, but then his brows furrowed, and cocked his head a little as he calculated things in his mind.]

You're not on Earth back home?

Not anymore. Don't know when I will be again either.

Alien stuff happened.

[And now up two flights of stairs and outside an apartment Lance fumbles for his keys.]

What about you? What was stuff like before you got yanked here?

[Before entering the building he was polite enough to shake out his cape, shaking it hard enough it was practically bone dry before turning to enter and walk up all those stairs. He thought over his question for a moment.]

Uhm... I was at the grocery store after patrol.

T--

[Wait what.]

That's some super power there.

[Another eyebrow life.]

Grocery shopping?

No, you're. Dry already. How'd. Do you have heat powers. Did you steam dry yourself?

No, don't be silly. [He looked befuddled.] I just shook my cape off.

. . .uh huh. What's your powers anyway?

[He's never been asked to really define this before, even at the hero's association testing, his physical test had spoken more than enough for what he could do. A little at a loss, he answered simply:]

I guess I'm strong.

Uhm. How strong? Like pick up a car strong?

Yeah, sure, that's easy. [Shrug.]

. . .

[Into the apartment they go, Lance kicking off his shoes to put next to the door before he walks in. It's not very lived in yet, he lives alone and as he just got here it's devoid of knick knacks or any sort of creature comforts.]

If I wasn't given a cool power I'd be really sour right now.

Well, take a load off and call whoever you need to call to get your information.

[Man, if just the thought of lifting a car impressed him that much who knows what would happen if he ever saw Saitama's real strength. Heart attack maybe.

He walked in, stopping to take off his boots, too, like the polite fella he can be.]

I wasn't given it, I worked for it back home. What can you do, then?

Well, back home I rode in a magical mechanical lion that joined with other mechanical lions to make a mecha called Voltron which was pretty cool.

I don't have my lion here but I have some of it's powers now.

[Holds up a hand and a fist sized block of ice forms above it]

This is awesome! And I'll be great at keggers if I can form blocks of ice around the kegs.

But I do miss piloting my lion. Piloting is what I had trained for since super powers aren't really a thing humans get where I'm from.

[He doesn't seem at all impressed with his power, what impresses him is the thought of a robot joining other robots to make an even bigger robot. His eyes practically shine with child-like joy at the idea.]

Whoah, like you become part of a giant robot and you all sit in the head like a team like in an anime??

It does become a giant robot but only Shiro gets to be in the head. If we were all in the head it'd be like boom headshot and you could take us all out.

But we do work as a team as we pilot. It takes way more coordination than it looks like it does.

The whole thing is VERY anime.

Oh... I never thought about that. [He scratched his cheek as he considered the tactical logistics of having a everyone in the head.] That's smart.

I don't actually know who designed the whole thing. Probably some underlings of the princess.

But I guess they knew what they were doing. And the mechas are pretty good at giving you instructions on what to do without words or whatever. Like psychic metal lion powers.

Psychic metal lion powers? [NOW he sounds a bit skeptical, but at least amused. He goes to the closest seat in the apartment to take advantage of the invite to "take a load off", pulling out the communicator, which kept dutifully translating as he fiddled with the screen.]

And they combine into a metal man, yes.

Life in space is really strange.

[Enjoy the couch! It's. It came with the place. It was free.]

Yeah, but at least that makes sense than a psychic link with a robot...

[He doesn't even have a couch back home, as ugly as it is it's a luxury!

As he fiddles with the phone he seemed to get more and more anxious, his swipes getting more fevered as he searched for...something.]
