TEST DRIVE MEME

Considering apping into MASK OR MENACE? Want to dip your toes into the setting and get a feel of whether your character will fit into it? Or maybe you're just cruising and want to play around? Then you've come to the right place!

Pick any of the following scenarios below or feel free to make up your own, but don't be afraid to throw yourself at someone else's thread, either!

And remember there's only one rule in Test Drive Meme Club: have fun!

01. The city of Heropa is what one might expect from a small, bright and cheery place, where locals are friendly enough and local shop owners might offer a free drink to welcome you to their fair city. Some of the locals might thank you for always lending your service to the nation, while others might not say anything -- but if you have something nasty to say, better not say anything at all, right? But on closer inspection of these Silent Stanleys and Stellas, you might notice that some people actually back away from any imPort who quite obviously looks like they aren't "from around the neighborhood". Once in a while, you may hear a voice raised:

"Can you believe they have the nerve to show their faces? I heard they were responsible for the monsters that caused earthquakes in Philadelphia!"

Of course, for every claim, there's a rebuttal; you may well hear a competing voice arguing, "No way, they fought those things! It wasn't their fault!"

ImPorts are a divisive issues, even in pretty Heropa.

02. De Chima, Virginia, is a large city with a healthy economy, and though it's quieter, there are just as many citizens awed at your very presence. Look at you! Organic wonder! Science and technology are the lifeblood of this city, so you're likely to come across a good many locals taking your picture with the newest of devices. The imPort craze is at an all-time high, and you may find yourself cornered by overzealous imPort fans, media wannabes and opportunists alike, shoving cameras in your face.

Their questions are likely to be fairly mundane, however; get ready for an interview about your taste in romantic partners, personal underwear choices, favourite foods, and more!

03. Maurtia Falls, Pennsylvania, is having a rainy day. The streets seem to be running with water, the sky can't seem to stop crying. You might want to check out some consumerism-inclined shelter, be that a smoky and dart-eyed bar full of grumbling locals, or a grimy and industrial coffee shop (full of grumbling locals). Watch your step, newly minted imPort, because if you let on that you're fresh meat then you're bound to find a few people who decide that the only proper welcome for an imPort is a nice set of knuckles to the face.

04. Nonah, North Carolina, is the liveliest of all cities; loud, busy and there's some kind of energy in the air that gets everyone buzzing with excitement. You may find yourself in the midst of a few closed-off streets for some occasion or another - whether it be a food cart festival, no-car day, or something else! - and surrounded by the hum of people, the waft of food being served on the street, and plenty of attention

Look there -- someone's demoing a VR roller coaster! Won't you give it a shot?

[She's definitely not going to say no to the company! She finds this pretty enjoyable, actually.]

Oh, of course. I have to admit it makes me feel safer walking with you. [She's not the best at being by herself anymore. She'd had enough of that when she was locked in the palace.]

[Well, now that he's been spotted, he's just gonna lengthen his stride until he's caught up with her.]

Yeah, well, it should. You're walking with the man who's going to become the greatest swordsman in the world, after all.

[Well, color her impressed!] Really? In the whole world? [This is fascinating, please do go on!] That sounds like it'll be very difficult to achieve.

[He lets out a little 'hmph', crossing his arms.]

If it was easy, it wouldn't be much of a worthwhile goal.

So you must have been training hard for it since you were young? [She only really has the basics of swordsmanship down, and even that was difficult.]

Yeah, pretty much.

[He rests a hand on the hilt of the Wado Ichimonji, Kuina's prized sword from all those years ago, and there's something almost soft in his expression, under that smirk. He still has a ways to go until he can defeat that man, Mihawk...but he's getting closer and closer all the time.]

No worries! As long as it doesn't seem like she's bothering him, she'll talk his ear off...

[She's not incredibly accomplished or expert at fighting with swords, but she can definitely read those understated years of training in his bearing and the visible scars. While Estellise herself is not fond of fighting, she knows and respects many who do, who view it as a pleasure and joy as well as a necessity.]

So are you traveling now to meet new opponents and improve?

HAHAH well i mean he's always vaguely pissy but dont mind him estelle, babble away

You've got the second part right...but I've only got one opponent I've got my sights set on beating. The one who's keeping his seat at the top nice and warm for me until I can take him down.

[She can probably feel the excitement in his eyes and voice as he talks about this, probably the first thing where his tone has shifted from the default grouchiness.]

[Ah, so he has a rival... She thinks she knows how this story goes. How marvelous! His obvious excitement is infectious, and she smiles up at him with obvious interest and curiosity.] How did the two of you meet?

[ooc: well technically it's uh, undecided rn bc I'm still watching, but as of the posting of this toplevel it was the end of the Arlong Park arc.]

I went looking for him. [And then got lost, got captured by the Navy, joined a pirate crew to avoid certain death, as one does.] And then I found 'im.

...I lost, but it'll be different next time.

[She's far from discouraged by his taciturn retelling of what was probably an exciting series of events...granted a bit of it sounds familiar.] It sounds like you really respect him.

So, what about you, kid? What're your goals?

[Well, she's already finished the journey of self discovery and saving the world along the way...] Nothing as impressive or ambitious as you! Umm...I'm currently writing books - fairy tales, mostly, for children... [Slightly sheepish laugh] That probably sounds a little boring, compared to your grand adventures...

[santouryuu]

[No, it's definitely not particularly exciting, but...hmmm. Luffy always did want a musician for the crew, didn't he? Maybe a storyteller would do. She might even be able to sing, who knows.

Hmmmm.

He shrugs off her babbling, flapping a hand.]

Well? Let's hear one.

[Does he sound a bit demanding there, sorry bout that, it must be the Luffy rubbing off on him. Or him just being rude, either or.]

R-right now? [oh god oh god so much pressure...] What kind of stories do you like?

[Not children's fairytales, that's for sure. But also: not the point at this moment. Zoro breaks out in a wide grin.]

Hm... [Well, she knew at least one thing about her current escort walking companion lost duckling so maybe...]

I don't know if this is my best story, but I think you might like this one? [And herein lies the tale of a wandering swordsman and his mischievous fox companion. They wander together from village to village, dragged into adventure after misadventure, exposing and defeating corrupt magistrates, rescuing a kidnapped princess or two, escaping from a volcano, getting lost more than once (pretty much every chance they got, really).
