TEST DRIVE MEME

01. Your memory is hazy and you might feel increasingly frustrated or anxious, or maybe you're excited as soldiers march past, barely glimpsing you. One second you're somewhere underground, the next you're enveloped in blue light, and suddenly you find yourself directly under Flordia sun's bright and burning glare. A female soldier steps toward you with a wide smile on her face and directs you to a car, ready to debrief you. You realize you are not the only one, surrounded by equally confused or eager faces... and you're all sporting a digital tattoo on your wrist.

02. Welcome to Cape Canaveral, where the smell of the ocean is in the air and locals are more than pleased to see new imPorts roaming their streets. They wave, they cheer, they ask for pictures as politely as they can. The more inhuman you look, or if you're wearing a costume, the more likely locals are to approach. Hey, enjoy the moment! The popular malt shop is offering you a free drink if you need it.

03. The technology in this world is certainly something. The cars are clearly modeled after popular 50s cars, but they hover several feet above the ground as they drive down the street. There are digital jukeboxes in restaurants, motorcycles also hover through traffic, advertisements can be seen on a digital projector on the taller buildings. Even kids on skateboards appear to drift a safe ten feet off the ground while playing!

04. Wherever you are, you can hear the loud revving of an engine, distance at first before you finally see it: a hovercar bursting around the corner, going beyond the maximum speed limit and just barely making its sharp turn. It doesn't appear to be slowing down any time soon, not with two police cars trailing it... and uh oh. Those skateboarding kids don't have much time to get out of the way as the car comes speeding down the road. You've been brought here for a reason Hero — so you better act fast.

[Pel looks around, as if she could determine what exactly she's doing that's illegal. It's probably a traffic thing again. She's having a hard time with traffic, lately. That's why she went to the swamp in the first place. She's dressed in her light armors and high boots, something simple and flexible.]

...Am I doing something wrong?

[It doesn't occur to her that people are giving her an unusually wide berth.]

[ Her mind races with so many retorts, but Natasha settles on telling her the truth. Why not? She seems like a big girl who can handle it. ]

That animal carcass you're carrying around. Did you acquire it on your own or did you just happen to find it somewhere?

I wouldn't carry home the spoils of someone else's hunt.

[Frankly, she seems scandalized at the idea.]

Just had to be sure.

[ Tilting her head to the side with a soft sigh. ] Because hunting those out of season can piss off the wrong people.

[The young cat-lady is still perplexed, ears flicking in concern. Pel has a wild quality about her to be certain, especially when it comes to the hunt - but in the end she doesn't want legal trouble either.]

Wait, are you saying hunting it in the first place is illegal? I did wonder how the animal population could flourish so near a city with so many, but I assumed it was because hyur prefer their food from farms, and to not have it staring back at them when they can.

[ Delightful. It's endearing in a way, but she's not going to say that out loud. ]

When out of season, yes.

In this country and certain others, hunting wildlife requires a license as well as a certain time of the year when they flourish. Usually it's done to cull the population so that they don't start to encroach city limits.

A license? Are there not tribes that hunt for their food to survive, away from the cities? [Pel's tail swishes, her brow furrowing.] How do they survive, if they are thusly bound?

Not here in Florida they don't, honey.

[ She's a hoot, kind of entertaining enough to pursue conversation with. ]

Other parts of the world it's common, but in this country? Most people will just accept food made by someone else's hands without question.
