TEST DRIVE MEME
Considering apping into MASK OR MENACE? Want to dip your toes into the setting and get a feel of whether your character will fit into it? Or maybe you're just cruising and want to play around? Then you've come to the right place!
Pick any of the following scenarios below or feel free to make up your own, but don't be afraid to throw yourself at anyone's thread, either!
And remember to have fun!01. Your memory is hazy and you might feel increasingly frustrated or anxious, or maybe you're excited as soldiers march past, barely glimpsing you. One second you're somewhere underground, the next you're enveloped in blue light, and suddenly you find yourself directly under Flordia sun's bright and burning glare. A female soldier steps toward you with a wide smile on her face and directs you to a car, ready to debrief you. You realize you are not the only one, surrounded by equally confused or eager faces... and you're all sporting a digital tattoo on your wrist.
02. Welcome to Cape Canaveral, where the smell of the ocean is in the air and locals are more than pleased to see new imPorts roaming their streets. They wave, they cheer, they ask for pictures as politely as they can. The more inhuman you look, or if you're wearing a costume, the more likely locals are to approach. Hey, enjoy the moment! The popular malt shop is offering you a free drink if you need it.
03. The technology in this world is certainly something. The cars are clearly modeled after popular 50s cars, but they hover several feet above the ground as they drive down the street. There are digital jukeboxes in restaurants, motorcycles also hover through traffic, advertisements can be seen on a digital projector on the taller buildings. Even kids on skateboards appear to drift a safe ten feet off the ground while playing!
04. Wherever you are, you can hear the loud revving of an engine, distance at first before you finally see it: a hovercar bursting around the corner, going beyond the maximum speed limit and just barely making its sharp turn. It doesn't appear to be slowing down any time soon, not with two police cars trailing it... and uh oh. Those skateboarding kids don't have much time to get out of the way as the car comes speeding down the road. You've been brought here for a reason Hero — so you better act fast.

[Or opinionated. And though Matt's pretty sure she probably doesn't need his help sometimes, and there are parts of her life he's better off knowing, whatever she wants from him, she has only to ask. All the facts and opinions and goings on. It's not as though she hasn't known him at his absolute worst...and she has this way of finding out things anyway.
(He's pretty sure when he tells her all he's been up to, though, that she'll have to resist the urge to kick him. But that's probably worth it.)]
Even if some of my observational skills aren't as good as they used to be.

Disabled. Might not be the best word to use around him, the part of her that still has manners forces into her mind. ]
I've noticed. [ Heh. ]
No comment on the cheap perfume I've had to substitute with though I suppose it's better you didn't say anything related to that. You do know what's said about women who wear that kind of thing.
[ Old habits are hard to break and it's harder now to not fall back into playful banter with him. Makes everything else that's happened less suffocating and right now she needs all the room to breathe that she can get. Being out of her element is reinvigorating, but a nuisance all the same. ]

[His mock offense is quite a good joke, because they both know he could probably think of terrible things to say about people who wear that kind of crap. It's enough to make him want to plug his nose with Kleenex and never want to smell anything ever again. But he's also too polite to say so, most of the time.
Just like he's too polite- and too canny- to immediately pull her to one side, and get them somewhere quiet and private where they can talk. They need to get off the streets- it's just like old days, really, being partners again.]
Although, down here...there's certainly enough in the air to make getting out of the open preferable, when there's no wind coming off the sea.
[Hint hint nudge nudge let's head down this quiet side road?]

Now where did you pick up those manners from?
[ All jokes aside, she's making the move to get out of there with accentuated clicks from her boots against the pavement. The playful jabs against him will continue until they're somewhere a bit more private, Natasha keeping an eye out for any not so obvious cameras. ]
How angry do you think they'd get if I wired myself a little more of an allowance?

Scratch that, it's not like New York were ever big fans of their whole thing. Too bad running away to San Francisco doesn't look like it'll be an option here.]
Acting as legal counsel for the moment, I'm going to pretend I didn't hear you say that. [Although he can see exactly how that might make things easier...still, according to his moral code, he can't be party to that. At least, not while he's at this place in his life.] I'd say though that because you're not native to this universe, they might be far more forgiving than they would be if it were a homegrown white collar criminal. They've proven themselves willing to bend the rules.

The thought rests dormant in her mind, choosing instead to pick apart what he's told her. ]
Have they?
[ A bit of curiosity seeps out in the two words, but not enough to really push on the matter. She trusts him and if Matt says they've been willing to bend the rules, she'll find out the circumstances behind them soon enough. ]
Rules... now that's something I haven't paid much attention to in the past few years.

[He's convinced Punisher to hold back, on those grounds alone. No sense in provoking them or making a convenient target, and Frank could see the wisdom in that. Daredevil's running around unregistered, less publicly than Kate-Bishop-As-Hawkeye, and nothing seems to have happened yet.]
For all I know they throw them out entirely, as long as you do what they want you to do.

Produce enough favorable results and she can break as many rules as she wants.
Reminds her too much like home, except this time they are making the mistake of believing that she belongs to someone else, to something else, other than an organization of her own choosing. ]
Is that how you've spent your time? Playing as someone's pawn? [ She just has to ask. ]
