throws thumbtack confetti everywhere

TEST DRIVE MEME
Considering apping into MASK OR MENACE? Want to dip your toes into the setting and get a feel of whether your character will fit into it? Or maybe you're just cruising and want to play around? Then you've come to the right place!

Pick any of the following scenarios below or feel free to make up your own, but don't be afraid to throw yourself at anyone's thread, either!

And remember to have fun!

    01. Your memory is hazy and you might feel increasingly frustrated or anxious, or maybe you're excited as soldiers march past, barely glimpsing you. One second you're somewhere underground, the next you're enveloped in blue light, and suddenly you find yourself directly under Flordia sun's bright and burning glare. A female soldier steps toward you with a wide smile on her face and directs you to a car, ready to debrief you. You realize you are not the only one, surrounded by equally confused or eager faces... and you're all sporting a digital tattoo on your wrist.

    02. Welcome to Cape Canaveral, where the smell of the ocean is in the air and locals are more than pleased to see new imPorts roaming their streets. They wave, they cheer, they ask for pictures as politely as they can. The more inhuman you look, or if you're wearing a costume, the more likely locals are to approach. Hey, enjoy the moment! The popular malt shop is offering you a free drink if you need it.

    03. The technology in this world is certainly something. The cars are clearly modeled after popular 50s cars, but they hover several feet above the ground as they drive down the street. There are digital jukeboxes in restaurants, motorcycles also hover through traffic, advertisements can be seen on a digital projector on the taller buildings. Even kids on skateboards appear to drift a safe ten feet off the ground while playing!

    04. Wherever you are, you can hear the loud revving of an engine, distance at first before you finally see it: a hovercar bursting around the corner, going beyond the maximum speed limit and just barely making its sharp turn. It doesn't appear to be slowing down any time soon, not with two police cars trailing it... and uh oh. Those skateboarding kids don't have much time to get out of the way as the car comes speeding down the road. You've been brought here for a reason Hero — so you better act fast.

...hers isn't really charm, is it?
castellano: (don't i make a good point?)

[personal profile] castellano 2014-04-27 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
Hey, hey. She's got charm.

[ if Danny knows anything, it's that Mindy Lahiri has her own special kind of charm that he'd fallen for. he had real feelings for her. she saw him, pushed him to see his father. he liked her. but they'd broken up because of his own issues. he knows that. it's why he broke up with Peter's sister. why he was trying to get their friendship back. it's not a matter of thinking he'd made a mistake. it's a matter of going there in the first place. it was hard. and it was wrong. they were coming close to wrecking a friendship.

but it doesn't mean he still doesn't care about her. he cares about her more than anyone in the practice. and definitely more than anyone here. when she wants to be, Mindy Lahiri can be quite charming -- okay, the charm usually comes inadvertently ]

She's just not - using it at the moment.

[And suddenly this conversation got weird. He's not sure what he just walked into, he just knows it's something kinda serious that a 16-year-old has no business getting involved in so he does what he does best. Changing the subject. Yeah. Great idea.]

It's probably better for her not to use it until she needs it anyway. Do these powers have limits or what? [It's mostly a rhetorical question, but all things considered.] How is any of this even real?
castellano: (right? how funny was that joke)

[personal profile] castellano 2014-04-27 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
I struggled with that at first, too. But, if it weren't real, I can't see how I'd think up all this very specific stuff. I liked comic books as much as the next kid but I grew out of them. It's just a random scenario I could think up. [ Plus, he's not sure anybody could do Mindy well at all. She is her own ... flavor of ... she's just very unique . ] Which is to say, I'm also new here. Power limitations and the like, I don't even know yet. But you're right about saving it until she needs it. In case there are limitations. You're a smart kid. [ If ... fashionablish. Mindy seems to think so. ] You okay, though? You uh - are your parents here?
choreographics: (I'm flying high defying gravity)

[personal profile] choreographics 2014-04-27 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
I didn't read a lot of them growing up. [Or, you know, any. He totally saw some of the X-Men movies though. Just don't ask him anything about them and it'll be fine.] This...is really weird to me. I kinda thought I was dreaming but usually my dreams feature less powers and more music. Actually that'd be a lot less weird than this.

[He pauses again, finally settling on a shrug which causes a strange sort of rippling effect without him meaning to.] Not that I've seen. I'm pretty sure I'm here by myself. [Which is also sort of disturbing considering the last thing he remembers from home is being with his parents and his sister.] And...you're here with her.
castellano: (ugh no that isn't going to work)

[personal profile] castellano 2014-04-27 02:42 am (UTC)(link)
See, so how could this all be in your head. [ Vivid imagination, maybe. ] Like what kind of music? [ Springsteen, perhaps? ]

Well, I'm not here with her. We're coworkers. Dr. Danny Castellano.
choreographics: (Did they have brains or knowledge?)

[personal profile] choreographics 2014-04-27 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
You'd be surprised what can be in a person's head! [Thinking outside of the box is pretty much encouraged in the theatre. But maybe people don't actually get that. Wait. He sort of just blinks in response.] Like...like Broadway, mostly.

[Clarification was needed for that? Riiight.] Fair enough. I'm Ryan. Evans. [Not that that makes a huge difference here.] Wait you're not an OB/GYN too, are you?
castellano: (yeah about that)

[personal profile] castellano 2014-04-27 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
Oh. [ Uh. Huh. Not... commenting on Broadway. ] Like - like your dreams are a musical?

[ Yep. Very needed. ] I am, yeah. You know guys can be OB's, too. In fact, we have more guys in the office, than women. Mindy's the only girl. And we have midwives upstairs. Both of them are guys. [ Hate them, though. ] Not that mid-wives are OB's. They are not OB's.
choreographics: (And I've just had a vision)

[personal profile] choreographics 2014-04-27 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
Sometimes. Sometimes they're Shakespearean. [He's unfortunately actually very serious.]

I don't even know what the OB in OB/GYN stands for. [He's not going to dwell on it for long because...well, it's weird. He's curious, yeah, but he's not sure he wants to spend a lot of time thinking about the GYN portion of it.] But I guess I'll take your word for it?
castellano: (you have to listen carefully)

[personal profile] castellano 2014-04-27 10:13 am (UTC)(link)
Huh. [ Okay. You, he... can't relate. ]

Obstetrician. [ You know, since... that was basically asking. ] You should. My word counts for a lot. It means something.
choreographics: (Many years I have waited)

[personal profile] choreographics 2014-04-27 05:32 pm (UTC)(link)
[A small sigh.] Never mind, most people don't get it.

Oh. Got it. Would everybody else say that your word means something?
castellano: (what's underneath is better)

[personal profile] castellano 2014-04-27 06:40 pm (UTC)(link)
No, I get it. Your dreams rhyme. Romeo Night's Hamlet, right? And that wife concerned with all the blood on her hands. I get it, I get it. [ He does not get it. ]

Course they would. A man's word is his - [ Didn't think this through. ] It's his word.

choreographics: (Well I dont know if I believe thats true)

[personal profile] choreographics 2014-04-27 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
That's...no. [He laughs a little though, partially amused.] Have you ever even seen a play?

And are you always so eloquent?
castellano: (yeah about that)

[personal profile] castellano 2014-04-27 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, a, a few. [ A very small few. All kinds of plays! ]

I can be eloquent when I wanna be eloquent.
choreographics: (I'd sooner buy defying gravity)

[personal profile] choreographics 2014-04-27 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Then you'd know that it's more than just sonnets and showtunes.

Oh. Is that just not very often then?
castellano: (shut up i'm not an angry old man)

[personal profile] castellano 2014-04-27 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, yeah, it's -- way more than sonnets and showtunes.

Hey, buddy, I say what I wanna say how I wanna say it. If it's not good enough for you...
choreographics: (I'd sooner buy defying gravity)

[personal profile] choreographics 2014-04-29 04:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey now, it was a genuine question. [Despite the fact there's a smug little grin on his face.] No need to get defensive.
castellano: (so unable to respond)

[personal profile] castellano 2014-04-30 06:56 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not --- defensive.
