TEST DRIVE MEME

Considering apping into MASK OR MENACE? Want to dip your toes into the setting and get a feel of whether your character will fit into it? Or maybe you're just cruising and want to play around? Then you've come to the right place!

Pick any of the following scenarios below or feel free to make up your own, but don't be afraid to throw yourself at anyone's thread, either!

01. Your memory is hazy and you might feel increasingly frustrated or anxious, or maybe you're excited as soldiers march past, barely glimpsing you. One second you're somewhere underground, the next you're enveloped in blue light, and suddenly you find yourself directly under Flordia sun's bright and burning glare. A female soldier steps toward you with a wide smile on her face and directs you to a car, ready to debrief you. You realize you are not the only one, surrounded by equally confused or eager faces... and you're all sporting a digital tattoo on your wrist.

02. Welcome to Cape Canaveral, where the smell of the ocean is in the air and locals are more than pleased to see new imPorts roaming their streets. They wave, they cheer, they ask for pictures as politely as they can. The more inhuman you look, or if you're wearing a costume, the more likely locals are to approach. Hey, enjoy the moment! The popular malt shop is offering you a free drink if you need it.

03. The technology in this world is certainly something. The cars are clearly modeled after popular 50s cars, but they hover several feet above the ground as they drive down the street. There are digital jukeboxes in restaurants, motorcycles also hover through traffic, advertisements can be seen on a digital projector on the taller buildings. Even kids on skateboards appear to drift a safe ten feet off the ground while playing!

04. Wherever you are, you can hear the loud revving of an engine, distance at first before you finally see it: a hovercar bursting around the corner, going beyond the maximum speed limit and just barely making its sharp turn. It doesn't appear to be slowing down any time soon, not with two police cars trailing it... and uh oh. Those skateboarding kids don't have much time to get out of the way as the car comes speeding down the road. You've been brought here for a reason Hero — so you better act fast.

[ He stops and takes a glance around. Looks like they're in the clear. Either they lost them, or the people got bored (possibly confused by him running off), and went to find some of the other new heroes to fawn over. ]

Lesson learned. Don't stand in one place long enough for them to start--

[ Makes a vague, waving motion with his hand. ]

[The name sounds uncomfortably like something out of the KaneCo weapons arsenal, but she's hoping there's no relation.]

[ Giving her a sideways glance and letting out a humorless laugh. ]

Are we really gonna pretend this klunk isn't all another one of WICKED's tests?

[ A sigh. ]

Alright. I'm in a good mood, I'll play along.

[ He rolls his shoulders before walking towards the nearest building and leaning against the wall. Might as well make himself comfortable during all of this. ]

Cranks, you know, those disease ridden shanks that have gone off the deep end, and are just itching for the chance to bite a chunk out of your face? Ringing any bells?

[ Yeah... none of that's gonna make any sense to her at all. ]

[0% sense making is happening. She still follows him, her body language relaxing as she becomes more curious than worried.]

Uh, no. No bells here. You're going to have to start from the beginning-- who, or what, is WICKED?

[ Raising his eyebrows at her. Not totally unbelievable if she got her memory swiped like he did. He sure as hell didn't know about any of this until recently himself. She doesn't look like she knows what he's talking about, that's for sure. Though she could just be a great actor. ]

I'd think the name speaks for itself. They kidnap kids, stick them in a giant maze they can't escape from, and then send monsters after them to kill them off. You know, typical evil organization things.

[She takes a second to absorb the information. It's almost absurd levels of terrible, and he says it so casually that it makes it even worse.]

Wow. They... really live up to that name.

[She's usually an excellent actress, but her distress is completely genuine.]

They stuck you in a maze to be hunted by monsters? Why?

[ It's pretty much absurd levels of terrible. Acting uncomfortably casually is about the only thing he can do to cope with how much his life kind of sucks.

He's doing finger quotes now. ]

To "analyze our reactions". So your guess is as good as mine.

That can't be the only reason...

[She stops thinking out loud. That's more evil than the usual evil organization antics she's seen, but she can't say for sure that Kane wouldn't do something like that if he was ever really pissed.]

Anyway, I don't think this is another one of their tests. Unless they've teamed up with KaneCo and a whole bunch of great actors.

[ It's not, though the group does have a pretty nasty case of "the ends justify the means".

And now it's Minho's turn to have no idea what she's talking about. ]

Kane Corporation. My, uh... resident evil organization, I guess. KaneCo loves attack robots but they've never made a maze full of innocent people. [As far as she knows.]

Attack robots?

[ Nodding for a few seconds as he thinks this over. Well, that certain sounds WICKED like to a degree. ]

Full robots, or are they part disgusting goopy flesh too?

Full robots. Is WICKED really using non-mechanical parts? That's... [Kind of sick. For a second she feels glad that there's something out there worse than KaneCo.]

[ Sick doesn't even begin to describe WICKED as far as Minho's concerned. ]

I don't know what they're using. And honestly? I don't want to know.
