throws thumbtack confetti everywhere

TEST DRIVE MEME
Considering apping into MASK OR MENACE? Want to dip your toes into the setting and get a feel of whether your character will fit into it? Or maybe you're just cruising and want to play around? Then you've come to the right place!

Pick any of the following scenarios below or feel free to make up your own, but don't be afraid to throw yourself at anyone's thread, either!

And remember to have fun!

    01. Your memory is hazy and you might feel increasingly frustrated or anxious, or maybe you're excited as soldiers march past, barely glimpsing you. One second you're somewhere underground, the next you're enveloped in blue light, and suddenly you find yourself directly under Flordia sun's bright and burning glare. A female soldier steps toward you with a wide smile on her face and directs you to a car, ready to debrief you. You realize you are not the only one, surrounded by equally confused or eager faces... and you're all sporting a digital tattoo on your wrist.

    02. Welcome to Cape Canaveral, where the smell of the ocean is in the air and locals are more than pleased to see new imPorts roaming their streets. They wave, they cheer, they ask for pictures as politely as they can. The more inhuman you look, or if you're wearing a costume, the more likely locals are to approach. Hey, enjoy the moment! The popular malt shop is offering you a free drink if you need it.

    03. The technology in this world is certainly something. The cars are clearly modeled after popular 50s cars, but they hover several feet above the ground as they drive down the street. There are digital jukeboxes in restaurants, motorcycles also hover through traffic, advertisements can be seen on a digital projector on the taller buildings. Even kids on skateboards appear to drift a safe ten feet off the ground while playing!

    04. Wherever you are, you can hear the loud revving of an engine, distance at first before you finally see it: a hovercar bursting around the corner, going beyond the maximum speed limit and just barely making its sharp turn. It doesn't appear to be slowing down any time soon, not with two police cars trailing it... and uh oh. Those skateboarding kids don't have much time to get out of the way as the car comes speeding down the road. You've been brought here for a reason Hero — so you better act fast.

[The judge shakes his head.]

Is there not a park where they might take their leisure?

[After all, it's inconvenient to have to worry about children fluttering about all pellmell on those devices. Yuri is accountable for too many people as it is, even if he isn't sure whether those people have made it here along with him. Having to also take into consideration the youth who are so close at hand is not a responsibility he desires in the least.]

If not...then perhaps you could be of help with answering this question. Who is in charge of the city? I can bring my idea of a park to them.

[And while he's at it, learn about them. After all, Yuri knows what people in power are like. Maverick had been a prime candidate of how twisted and convoluted their so-called visions often turn out to be. Or had been...until Yuri disposed of him.]

There are a few parks around here, but that doesn't mean the kids actually want to use 'em. [Jaime doesn't exactly count himself as one of them - between school, his internship and his duties as the Blue Beetle, he has little idle time to spare. It's mostly a good thing; it keeps him from thinking too much about home, and how much he misses it.]

But if you want to get in contact with the guy in charge of 'government imPort' relations - [and yes, those inverted commas are practically audible] - you're looking for a guy called Captain Holiday. Haven't seen him around myself, though.

[He just makes it his business to know these things. You never know when it may come in handy.]

I suppose that's rather expected.

[Yuri sighs. Some things just never change.]

[But as Jaime continues, the teen gives the judge something more important to think about. Captain Holiday. The military designation doesn't go unrecognized, and neither does the irony of Holiday's surname.]

He is in charge and yet you haven't seen him? [Dubious.] That isn't very inviting. What more can you tell me about him?

[There is a bench not far and Yuri gestures towards it. They can take a seat for a moment, and if they're lucky, avoid any further imPort-related hysteria.]

Not much. Sorry. [He shifts his weight, rubbing at the back of his neck, then, following Yuri's gaze, moves to take a seat on the bench.] They gave you a communicator, right? Because you should be able to contact him that way. We've got his number, I just didn't think it was worth it to, I dunno, call him just to introduce myself. But I can show you how if you're not familiar with phones. Lotta people 'round here aren't.

I didn't expect so, but it was a question worth asking.

[The judge then takes a moment to reflect upon the aforementioned communicator. While not exactly like the devices he's handled before, it bears enough similarity to them that he's certain he could figure out its workings on his own.]

Captain Holiday's number would be in some form of contact list? I should be able to find it easily enough. I'm not unfamiliar with that sort of technology.

[Only unfamiliar with what to expect from this new world. Yuri is almost amused by how precarious his position is even after only just arriving. His is a situation where he must now tread more carefully than he ever has before. One slip...and everything could fall to pieces.]

Perhaps you will think me strange for asking, but...what of the laws here? And other dangers, should you know of any. I wouldn't like to put a foot forward in the wrong direction.

[At least not so early in the game.]
