throws thumbtack confetti everywhere

TEST DRIVE MEME
Considering apping into MASK OR MENACE? Want to dip your toes into the setting and get a feel of whether your character will fit into it? Or maybe you're just cruising and want to play around? Then you've come to the right place!

Pick any of the following scenarios below or feel free to make up your own, but don't be afraid to throw yourself at anyone's thread, either!

And remember to have fun!

    01. Your memory is hazy and you might feel increasingly frustrated or anxious, or maybe you're excited as soldiers march past, barely glimpsing you. One second you're somewhere underground, the next you're enveloped in blue light, and suddenly you find yourself directly under Flordia sun's bright and burning glare. A female soldier steps toward you with a wide smile on her face and directs you to a car, ready to debrief you. You realize you are not the only one, surrounded by equally confused or eager faces... and you're all sporting a digital tattoo on your wrist.

    02. Welcome to Cape Canaveral, where the smell of the ocean is in the air and locals are more than pleased to see new imPorts roaming their streets. They wave, they cheer, they ask for pictures as politely as they can. The more inhuman you look, or if you're wearing a costume, the more likely locals are to approach. Hey, enjoy the moment! The popular malt shop is offering you a free drink if you need it.

    03. The technology in this world is certainly something. The cars are clearly modeled after popular 50s cars, but they hover several feet above the ground as they drive down the street. There are digital jukeboxes in restaurants, motorcycles also hover through traffic, advertisements can be seen on a digital projector on the taller buildings. Even kids on skateboards appear to drift a safe ten feet off the ground while playing!

    04. Wherever you are, you can hear the loud revving of an engine, distance at first before you finally see it: a hovercar bursting around the corner, going beyond the maximum speed limit and just barely making its sharp turn. It doesn't appear to be slowing down any time soon, not with two police cars trailing it... and uh oh. Those skateboarding kids don't have much time to get out of the way as the car comes speeding down the road. You've been brought here for a reason Hero — so you better act fast.

Miss America Chavez | Marvel-616

[So what is the first thing an interdimensional hopper does the moment she has some free space? Try to hop dimensions of course.

This is, of course, after threatening (very loudly) bodily harm on anyone in her way.

And what happened with an interdimensional hopper makes a portal that she can't get through and realizes her powers have had a serious downgrade? Bitch about it. Very loudly and for all to hear.

So yeah, that'd be Miss America Chavez over there yelling about how she can't get fucking anywhere because she's been kidnapped across dimensions and is now unable to unkidnap herself.

Enjoy.

[After spending all the time that Kate has with America and the other Young Avengers, she's used to more of a glare and a hint of hostile body language from America rather than open threats on others, but she supposes the situation calls for it. Still, rather than allowing her to continue on that path, she throws herself right into her path, hands up and lips pursed.]

Hey, it's not their fault.

[Some part of her is tensed to duck, but given that America's punches were usually saved for Loki, she figures she's safe.]

[Honestly, she just needed to get it out. So her words die in her throat and her anger simmers down to a glare when she turns on Kate.]

Then who the hell's fault is it so I can knock them into next week?

[Kate is right, no punches are to be aimed at her.]

Unfortunately, that's up for debate at the moment. [She's glad she's stopped any of the violence.] Trust me, if I could stop people from being dragged into another dimension and make it easy, I'd be on it. [There's a beat as she awkwardly levels a look at America.] Honestly, we all would. [She doesn't feel like she has to express who "we" happens to be.]

[There's a disgruntled noise in the back of America's throat as crosses her arms. She's still angry but there isn't a lot she can do except go on some childish rampage, and she's above that.

Mostly.
]

We. So who all is here? [Or should she be asking who isn't here? Same difference.]

[sometimes you were just in the wrong place at the wrong time. that usually wasn't Loki's case, but today it was Loki's case.

he has a lot of mixed feelings about this. there were many times since he arrived here that he had been, well, a bit missing the presence of the inevitable fist in his face (or his stomach, or his head). when he spots here he has a few options, most of which end in "get the Hel out of there" but he eventually settles on:
]

I didn't do it.

[he holds up his hands in his best defense, which really isn't a good one. part of him knows that she's going to want an explanation, it just depends on how long she'll give him to do it.]

[She doesn't punch Loki out right but she does grab for his collar and get right in his face.]

One minute. Explain.

[They had tried to give her info on what was going on but she wasn't the least bit interested in listening to them. She really didn't appreciate being taken against her will to play hero for them.]

[oh, right. this is nostalgic, isn't it? he's jerked every which way easily by her strength, and comes face to face with her in a sudden bout of forced disorientation.]

We're all brought here! I can't see into any dimension around us! They want our abilities and powers for something-or-another and oddly, they're very good at giving us powers if we don't already have them! Curious, isn't it?

And before you ask, there's no way out. There's enough proof around you to prove my point.

[he puts his hand up over his face to shield his eyes from the possibility of being punched after his obligatory exposition.]

[It's easier to take in what Loki has to say because for one, she knows him and, for two, she feels like she's more in control of the situation.

By the time Loki is done explaining America doesn't feel much like punching him, for the time being. She shoves him away with a huff and crosses her arms.
]

No shit there's no way out. I already tried kicking through. [There's a bit of a crater in the sidewalk, just a few feet away, where she tried.]

[he stumbles back looking a bit put-out. with a shuffle of his hands, he straightens the furry collar of his jacket as if he's trying to regain some kind of dignity after being jostled. it was worse than being punched, really.]

Our captors are thorough.

[he gives a significant glance to the crater before turning back to her.]

My sparky handful of interdimensional tracking spells also are useless.

[and he was looking for her, after all. surprise surprise.]

[personal profile] kickinthrough 2014-05-21 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
[If she knew it was worse than being punched he'd probably get jostled more and punched less.

Or maybe just both for good measure.

If it's at all possible for America to scowl further than she already, she does.
]

That's a pity.
transuniversal: (it wasn't fun for me)

[personal profile] transuniversal 2014-05-17 07:12 pm (UTC)(link)
[Noh-Varr remembers that feeling. His kidnapping had been slightly more sinister, and he'd technically woken up in some kind of science prison instead of just being politely asked to go be a superhero, but the pissed off...yeah, he remembers that. Her anger is perfectly understandable, and while he's aware of how significant her capacity for damage is, when pissed off, Noh-Varr isn't too worried about interrupting it.]

I don't think you are going to get a response from anyone that might be useful without taking your anger to the next level. But I wouldn't recommend doing that.

[Personal experience says: bad idea. Not like they wouldn't all try to break her out of prison, though, if she did go that route. But Noh-Varr doesn't think America has the same capacity to write FUCK YOU in blocks-high flaming letters across a city the way that he does.]

[personal profile] kickinthrough 2014-05-18 05:28 am (UTC)(link)
[She probably could but she wouldn't. She doesn't want to be that destructive.

She stops ranting as she turns to look at Noh-Varr. Great, they kidnapped him too.
]

How much attention do you think they'd pay if I busted up that transporter of theirs? [But if she did that how would they ever leave?]
transuniversal: (well we found those guys)

[personal profile] transuniversal 2014-05-19 04:11 pm (UTC)(link)
[Given enough time he could probably get them home. Assuming he could ever get all his hands on the materials, which would be a spectacular pain in the ass.]

You would get a lot of attention. I doubt they're advanced enough yet for it to be easily replaceable or repairable. But it is safe to assume if they have the capability for even rudimentary transdimensional technology they can easily make a prison you can't punch yourself out of. Or into, when we came to break you out.

[Because of course they would.]

[personal profile] kickinthrough 2014-05-20 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
They've already created a prison I can't get out of. Or weren't you listening? [She'd only been yelling about it a few moments ago.]
