And yeah; she was raises by her mother and stepfather til she was around six; her father got custody and proved in the doing that loving your kids is different to providing a stable home for them! Her experiences were a lot to do with his instability, his substance abuse/self medication, the mishandling of that by people who should have done better - child put in the position of feeling responsible for the adult, exposed to things she shouldn't have been, calculating her own safety because she couldn't rely on anyone else. Hard to confront the reality when it's also a loving environment with a lot of privilege; "can't have been that bad" etc.
