TEST DRIVE MEME

Considering apping into MASK OR MENACE? Want to dip your toes into the setting and get a feel of whether your character will fit into it? Or maybe you're just cruising and want to play around? Then you've come to the right place!

01. Your memory is hazy and you might feel increasingly frustrated or anxious, or maybe you're excited as soldiers march past, barely glimpsing you. One second you're somewhere underground, the next you're enveloped in blue light, and suddenly you find yourself directly under Flordia sun's bright and burning glare. A female soldier steps toward you with a wide smile on her face and directs you to a car, ready to debrief you. You realize you are not the only one, surrounded by equally confused or eager faces... and you're all sporting a digital tattoo on your wrist.

02. Welcome to Cape Canaveral, where the smell of the ocean is in the air and locals are more than pleased to see new imPorts roaming their streets. They wave, they cheer, they ask for pictures as politely as they can. The more inhuman you look, or if you're wearing a costume, the more likely locals are to approach. Hey, enjoy the moment! The popular malt shop is offering you a free drink if you need it.

03. The technology in this world is certainly something. The cars are clearly modeled after popular 50s cars, but they hover several feet above the ground as they drive down the street. There are digital jukeboxes in restaurants, motorcycles also hover through traffic, advertisements can be seen on a digital projector on the taller buildings. Even kids on skateboards appear to drift a safe ten feet off the ground while playing!

04. Wherever you are, you can hear the loud revving of an engine, distance at first before you finally see it: a hovercar bursting around the corner, going beyond the maximum speed limit and just barely making its sharp turn. It doesn't appear to be slowing down any time soon, not with two police cars trailing it... and uh oh. Those skateboarding kids don't have much time to get out of the way as the car comes speeding down the road. You've been brought here for a reason Hero — so you better act fast.

[Well maybe if you were more like your old self he'd be more like his, Bumblebee. Ever think of that HMMM?]

I had a feeling. I'm not to accustomed to your species, but I hope I didn't offend you.

[After all, it's the right thing to do--to be courteous to any living being with sentience. That's what the Autobots tried to do, at least...they just failed considerably with the bloodshed.

And Earth was one of the stomping grounds that had to pay for it...right?]

[HI WHAT'S 'ROBOTS IN DISGUISE'?]

[ oh shoot. he can't take much more of this. dammit, bird. stop being so dang nice. it ain't healthy for Bee. ]

I could already tell you were Cybertronian. There are a few of those guys hanging around.

[ KEKEKEKE. this is going to be GREAT. ]

[He'd love to go back to being a passive aggressive asshole but right now you've got an innocent face on!!]

Oh, so you're familiar with my race! That's good to know. ...I hope they're good things, that is.

[He'll hold out a finger for a handshake then. HIS FIRST HUMAN INTERACTION AHHHH

It's gonna come crashing down soon enough.]

Well you have Starscream, Thundercracker, some weird guy named Knock Out -

[ totally shaking a finger with a smug little grin on his face. ]

And, of course, Bumblebee.

[The moment he says Starscream, his eyes narrow, filling with the ultimate disgust. Starscream, how he wanted to see him again just to repay him for what he'd done...

The others are drowned out, too caught up in his rage before--

Suddenly, widening eyes.]

Bumblebee?

[ the glare in those bright blue's is a welcome sight at the mention of Starscream's name. the utter loathing... that's something that pretty much everyone ever can relate to. it also gives Bee an idea of when Metalhawk hails from too.

but! keeping up sunny appearances! ]

Mmmhmm. Smaller round, yellow one?

[It's a really clear indicator of when, that's for sure. But when the girl describes him, Metalhawk nods his head, trying to hide the twitches on the side of his mouth.]

That would be him.

It'd be nice to see him again. He's really the only one I can call a friend now.

[ awww poor Metalhawk. way to have the little Autobot's spark ( heart, whatever ) lurch for the guy. ]

I bet he wouldn't mind seeing you.

[ which is true. honestly Metalhawk HAD NEVER really been that bad. arrogant and pretty damn biased against ANY Autobot to start... but Bee hadn't been much different either then as well. ]

He's closer than you think.

Hm. I can't say I'm his first choice.

[There's a lot of things he regrets now--trusting Starscream is one of them. His own open-mindedness left him somewhat fooled by Starscream's actions.

He'd learned his lesson the hard way--but life was giving him another chance now. To make things right.]

Is he?

[That gets his head to perk up, scanning around to see where he was. Bumblebee was notoriously good at hiding...Blame his small size.]

You'd be surprised. [ aww man. here goes his original plan of taking things by surprise. but anyway, walking up and giving one of Metalhawk's legs a good pat. ]

There was a lot going on, you know. Everyone was called home and then seeing it in the state in was in? It didn't really feel like Cybertron at all. I also know that we Autobots didn't exactly have a good start at the beginning of the war - we only concerned ourselves with the threat and not the citizens who were just innocent bystanders. When I think about it like that? I can't really blame the Unaligned for not trusting us.

[ shrugs and offers a lopsided smile. ]

I wasn't at my best either. Spent too much time trying to be this ideal leader instead of focusing on unification.

[He appreciates the woman's enthusiasm, but when it came to his company, he knew that his relations with them were strained. He didn't regret it--if he had to be the least favourite to get freedom for his people then so be it.

But when she starts talking again...about all these things that she shouldn't have been there for, his face starts to drop in confusion. And the fact that she's saying things like this...apologies, explanations. Understanding...]

...

Bumblebee? Is that--

[ pat pat that leg. then that expression of his turns apologetic. ]

Yeah, it's me.

[ too bad it doesn't stay that way. nope. right to smirking. ]

Who knew you had it in you to be so sweet and considerate.

[ a laugh. ] Sorry about that. The thing that brought us here must have interacted with my holomatter. Came to looking like my avatar that I used on Earth.

[It's amazing how much those chest flaps flare as his face contorts into a huff. Great, Bumblebee caught him off guard. He still did, as a matter of fact.]

I doubt you are.

[Don't try and lie your way out of this one, Bee, he knows you enjoyed every minute of that.]

So you've been a human since you arrived in this strange place?

Originally? No, I wasn't sorry. The whole point was to get you going. But then you went on to say stuff like that and you took me by surprise. Figured I had to set the record straight.

[ shrug. ]

But yeah. I've been human this entire time.

Charmed.

[But despite his ruffled state, he has a tone of happiness underneath it all. Like he's truly glad to see someone familar.]

It's good to know I'm not alone, at least.

And...thank you for your words. It might've been too late for me to hear them, but it's better than never, I suppose.

[ there's a soft smile. maybe a little tired. ]

Hey. It's never too late, Metalhawk.

Thundercracker... I'd like to meet him, that's for sure. And I hope the prejudice hasn't carried over.

[His plating flares slightly, as if automatically assuming the seeker's not very well liked.]

Mm. I wonder if this is my second chance.

Eh... He just wants to be left alone to live his own life. That's all.

[ rubbing at his neck... jut a bit. ]

Kind of thinking of this as my second chance, you know.

I can respect that. After everything, I can't say seeing some familiar faces you've tried to decimate hold all too well to 'good memories'.

[But that gets his head tilting.]

You mean at a new direction in life, I assume?

Probably doesn't help that his 'brothers' shot him.

[ Skywarp and Starscream... some 'brothers' they had made. Bumblebee rolls his eyes - something that's actually visible now.

but then Metalhawk has to kind of ruin things. 'new direction in life.' ha. if only. the Autobot doesn't quite want to come out and say it. Thundercracker knowing is one thing - the guy scoffs and moves on.

birdbrain? yeah... probably won't take it too well, huh? so he shrugs, offering a smile that doesn't quite reach his eyes. ]

Something like that.

Perhaps I'll try to appeal to him as a Cybertronian. I feel like I can understand his sentiments.

[He'd be a tough cookie, but Metalhawk's not known to back down.

But he notices Bee's eyes steering away from his own, avoiding his gaze. It wasn't like him to do that, and when he did, the only reason he could think of was that there was more to the story than he was letting on.]

Bumblebee. Is there...something you know that I don't?

I could see that going either way, depending on how arrogantly you present yourself.

[ aka: don't be Starscream. no one likes Starscream's approach to things.

also mmhmm. the bird sure has caught on quick. Bee rolls his shoulders. ]

It's nothing to worry about.

[Bee's body language, the way his tone drops when he says that last part...]

Forgive me if I'm not convinced. But I won't pressure you.

[Either way, it was good to see him.]

As long as you're alright now.

It's just... I'm not sure you'd like it. That's all. Yeah, a lot's happened.

[ never good at being put on the spot, is he? ]

Anyway. Yeah. I'm all right now. Still have to figure out this super hero power stuff, but it'll work out.

...

[Somehow, he gets the gist of it. His eyes flick down, away from Bee a moment.]

I won't push.

Now...super hero powers? Surely you aren't already going delusional on me, are you?
