TEST DRIVE MEME

Considering apping into MASK OR MENACE? Want to dip your toes into the setting and get a feel of whether your character will fit into it? Or maybe you're just cruising and want to play around? Then you've come to the right place!

01. Your memory is hazy and you might feel increasingly frustrated or anxious, or maybe you're excited as soldiers march past, barely glimpsing you. One second you're somewhere underground, the next you're enveloped in blue light, and suddenly you find yourself directly under Flordia sun's bright and burning glare. A female soldier steps toward you with a wide smile on her face and directs you to a car, ready to debrief you. You realize you are not the only one, surrounded by equally confused or eager faces... and you're all sporting a digital tattoo on your wrist.

02. Welcome to Cape Canaveral, where the smell of the ocean is in the air and locals are more than pleased to see new imPorts roaming their streets. They wave, they cheer, they ask for pictures as politely as they can. The more inhuman you look, or if you're wearing a costume, the more likely locals are to approach. Hey, enjoy the moment! The popular malt shop is offering you a free drink if you need it.

03. The technology in this world is certainly something. The cars are clearly modeled after popular 50s cars, but they hover several feet above the ground as they drive down the street. There are digital jukeboxes in restaurants, motorcycles also hover through traffic, advertisements can be seen on a digital projector on the taller buildings. Even kids on skateboards appear to drift a safe ten feet off the ground while playing!

04. Wherever you are, you can hear the loud revving of an engine, distance at first before you finally see it: a hovercar bursting around the corner, going beyond the maximum speed limit and just barely making its sharp turn. It doesn't appear to be slowing down any time soon, not with two police cars trailing it... and uh oh. Those skateboarding kids don't have much time to get out of the way as the car comes speeding down the road. You've been brought here for a reason Hero — so you better act fast.

[ it's a sight david never thought he'd see. america's relaxing? america's capable of relaxing? not that he has a lot of room to talk, but that isn't something he thought he'd ever see.

he holds his hot dog in one hand and has not yet chosen whether to sit or not. so instead he'll stand. ]

I think the only thing that would make this weirder is if you were feeding pigeons. [ not that there are many pigeons in heropa. ]

[She is capable of relaxing when no one she knows is around. But now David is here so she's gotta act like she's all uptight and shit, damn.

She looks from her ice cream cone to David.]

You see nothing. Tell anyone and you won't talk again for a long time, let alone be able to eat that hotdog. [Is she joking? Who knows with her. But the grin she flashes after a moment is a good give away, right?]

So, just gonna stand there all day?

I don't know. I was thinking about just scarfing this down while I know it's still an option.

[ but he sits down instead and no scarfing happens. he does look at his hot dog a moment before turning his attention to her. ] I know none of us really went for the double life game, but you've always made it seem like heroing is your whole life. Is this what you do with the off time?

[She watches him as he sits then turns her attention back to her slowly melting ice cream. His question gets a shrug in response.]

Sit on park benches and people watch? Sometimes. I did a lot of dimension hopping but that's not really an option here. [She's stuck and she hates it but she's trying to make the best of it.]

No, I don't imagine it will be. [ he takes a bite of his hot dog and chews it a moment, thinking. ] A place like this has got to look like a cage from that perspective. And without knowing how long it will last, something else has to take the place of escaping.

[America nods before going back to her ice cream. She doesn't have to say anything because David nailed it. She's trapped in a cage that might seem large to others but when she's used to the multiverse being at her fingertips (heel to be more specific)...well, you could say she could understand how Loki must feel.]

At least alternate versions of ourselves don't exist in this universe.
