[At the part about his own life, he just shakes his head slowly.]
If you ever wanna know, my life's an open book. I'll tell you whatever you want. If you don't... I won't be offended. I get it. I work hard so that people like you don't ever have to see what people like me do.

All of them.

You think that maybe they see something in you that you don't?

I guess that’s the usual explanation, yeah....
Frolicked if I know what. People don’t got the same reasons here to suck up to me that they do back home...

Let me guess, you're a real somebody back home.

I mean, me too. I'm a Kanto region Champion, a former Gym Leader, World Tournament Invitational Runner-up and a head of the Alola Battle Tree. Honestly speaking, I'm probably within the top 10, top 5 trainers in the world, all-time wins ranked.
[Just a humble brag.]
But what they're after, usually... [Grumble]
Gramps is... the foremost authority on Pokémon research. Responsible for a lot of the base-classification system used in modern Pokéology. He also invented the Pokédex- that's that device I use all the time, an electronic Pokémon encyclopedia and information recording device. In addition to that, he's the Kanto region's official starter Pokémon distributor. Any new trainer in the whole region who's going off on their journey, they have a choice of Pokémon from him. And those Pokémon, they're rare and endangered, hardly seen in the wild, so you can only get such Pokémon from a certified researcher like him.
Plus he's a famous veteran trainer in his own right, widely known for his talkshow and lecture appearances........
[Talk about a chip on the shoulder.]

I love him, but I... gave up a long time ago on expecting people to react any other way when they hear the name 'Oak'.
