TEST DRIVE MEME

Considering apping into MASK OR MENACE? Want to dip your toes into the setting and get a feel of whether your character will fit into it? Or maybe you're just cruising and want to play around? Then you've come to the right place!

Pick any of the following scenarios below or feel free to make up your own, but don't be afraid to throw yourself at anyone's thread, either!

01. Your memory is hazy and you might feel increasingly frustrated or anxious, or maybe you're excited as soldiers march past, barely glimpsing you. One second you're somewhere underground, the next you're enveloped in blue light, and suddenly you find yourself directly under Flordia sun's bright and burning glare. A female soldier steps toward you with a wide smile on her face and directs you to a car, ready to debrief you. You realize you are not the only one, surrounded by equally confused or eager faces... and you're all sporting a digital tattoo on your wrist.

02. Welcome to Cape Canaveral, where the smell of the ocean is in the air and locals are more than pleased to see new imPorts roaming their streets. They wave, they cheer, they ask for pictures as politely as they can. The more inhuman you look, or if you're wearing a costume, the more likely locals are to approach. Hey, enjoy the moment! The popular malt shop is offering you a free drink if you need it.

03. The technology in this world is certainly something. The cars are clearly modeled after popular 50s cars, but they hover several feet above the ground as they drive down the street. There are digital jukeboxes in restaurants, motorcycles also hover through traffic, advertisements can be seen on a digital projector on the taller buildings. Even kids on skateboards appear to drift a safe ten feet off the ground while playing!

04. Wherever you are, you can hear the loud revving of an engine, distance at first before you finally see it: a hovercar bursting around the corner, going beyond the maximum speed limit and just barely making its sharp turn. It doesn't appear to be slowing down any time soon, not with two police cars trailing it... and uh oh. Those skateboarding kids don't have much time to get out of the way as the car comes speeding down the road. You've been brought here for a reason Hero — so you better act fast.

[An enormous pterosaur stands out regardless of where she goes. Janine's kind of bemused by all this - why are humans so tiny? Why are there flying cars? - and she's convinced that this positive opinion's going to change in a hurry. At one point that would have scared her.

Buuut hey, she's not human now, she's a towering winged creature rightfully seen as amazing. Janine seems to accept this attention coolly, but something about her suggests that this is very entertaining.]

[Jaime's already had his day in the sun, and that's quite enough. Now, he knows better than to wander the streets on this day of all days with his wrists exposed, so he's wearing long sleeves even underneath the beating Florida sun.

He typically likes to think of himself as a fairly intelligent individual. Unfortunately, he occasionally proves himself wrong by spouting some very unintelligent things. Today's gem comes when he sees Janine as he turns the corner and blurts out:] Whoa. That's a dinosaur.

[Truly, he's the soul of wit.]

[Janine inclines her enormous head and studies the little human with one red eye. She makes croaking cawing noises while 'speaking'.]

:Hmm. Thanks, I hadn't noticed!:

[Jaime practically jumps when Janine actually speaks.]

You can talk!

[And again with the witty repartee. He catches himself almost immediately after and presses a hand to his forehead. Of course the dinosaur brought from another world can speak here! He's already run into speaking dogs and machines; how different is a dinosaur, really?]

Sorry, that was probably really rude. I'm, uh... not used to seeing talking dinosaurs. Or dinosaurs.

[He apologized for being rude, but even his attention to etiquette doesn't mean he's not going to stare. He's seen pictures of dinosaurs in books and displays at museums, but there's nothing like seeing one in its flesh and blood to see how terrifyingly large they really are. Jaime's not scared per se, but seeing how large she is is a humbling sight.]

[Janine watches the boy twitch and gawk. Yes, she decides, she is amused.]

:I can see that. This doesn't look like a dinosaur sort of place.:

[She's well aware of how badly she stands out in this setting. The engine sounds and close quarters bother her pterosaur-mind, but she overrides it.]

:And yeah, looky-loo, I'm real.:

You sure are, [Jaime says, a wry twist to his mouth. He's pedantic enough that he's already thinking of the hows and whys of bringing a dinosaur here, let alone the practicalities of it. Where is she going to live? What is she going to do?]

You might find our houses to be a little cramped, [he jokes.] Did they find another set-up for you?
