TEST DRIVE MEME

Considering apping into MASK OR MENACE? Want to dip your toes into the setting and get a feel of whether your character will fit into it? Or maybe you're just cruising and want to play around? Then you've come to the right place!

Pick any of the following scenarios below or feel free to make up your own, but don't be afraid to throw yourself at anyone's thread, either!

01. Your memory is hazy and you might feel increasingly frustrated or anxious, or maybe you're excited as soldiers march past, barely glimpsing you. One second you're somewhere underground, the next you're enveloped in blue light, and suddenly you find yourself directly under Flordia sun's bright and burning glare. A female soldier steps toward you with a wide smile on her face and directs you to a car, ready to debrief you. You realize you are not the only one, surrounded by equally confused or eager faces... and you're all sporting a digital tattoo on your wrist.

02. Welcome to Cape Canaveral, where the smell of the ocean is in the air and locals are more than pleased to see new imPorts roaming their streets. They wave, they cheer, they ask for pictures as politely as they can. The more inhuman you look, or if you're wearing a costume, the more likely locals are to approach. Hey, enjoy the moment! The popular malt shop is offering you a free drink if you need it.

03. The technology in this world is certainly something. The cars are clearly modeled after popular 50s cars, but they hover several feet above the ground as they drive down the street. There are digital jukeboxes in restaurants, motorcycles also hover through traffic, advertisements can be seen on a digital projector on the taller buildings. Even kids on skateboards appear to drift a safe ten feet off the ground while playing!

04. Wherever you are, you can hear the loud revving of an engine, distance at first before you finally see it: a hovercar bursting around the corner, going beyond the maximum speed limit and just barely making its sharp turn. It doesn't appear to be slowing down any time soon, not with two police cars trailing it... and uh oh. Those skateboarding kids don't have much time to get out of the way as the car comes speeding down the road. You've been brought here for a reason Hero — so you better act fast.

[Hal glows even more brightly as he bristles at that. They may have a bit of history, but that doesn't give her a free pass.]

Beware my power, Green Lantern's light. Not exactly a nice nightlight, Power Girl.

Her cape flutters behind her in the breeze, a tinge of salt coming from the direction of the beach that's about twenty minutes away from the area. Less than a minute for folks like them. She folds her arms over her chest, rolling her eyes. ]

[Can we preserve the punch though? Everything else can go.

Hal gently extricates himself from the crowd that sees fit to continuously insult his appearance and flies up to her level. They're not far enough to be completely out of earshot or sight and the crowd takes advantage of that with their phones and cameras. He's even gracious enough to provide lighting for their photos.]

Hello yourself. I'm still not a nightlight.

[It's a very important point to him.]

[ She's somewhat surprised the crowds taken to insults, but it must be because they don't realize how insulting they can be when they don't know these imPorted heroes at all or what makes them tic. ]

Okay, folks! Show's over. [ She makes a shooing motion with her hand. ] Maybe another time. [ Most of the crowd disperses, with the unsurprising bunch who linger to keep filming the two on their phones.

Peej glances back at Hal, letting both arms fall back to her side. ]

I take it you just arrived.

I was going to go back to Oa... [Except there's no Oa here or his apartment or Watchtower. Hal had basically made a break for it the moment he arrived. He wasn't going to spend time with bureaucracy willingly.]

This is Earth, but not our Earth or something?

An alternate universe. One that apparently can't let go of the past.

[ See also: everything is designed in a fifties aesthetic. Cars might hover with perfected technology, but those cars scream vintage. ]

There's a large number of us pulled from other universes into this one. Finding an exit hasn't been easy.

[Hal's contribution into finding an exit had been asking his ring to get him back to Oa or the Earth he knew and when that failed, he's got nothing. He's smart enough to get into the air-force, but that might as well be the same as knowing nothing.

Don't even ask him about magic.]

No geniuses or magicians around?

[ Her shoulders droop slightly. ]

Plenty of geniuses, but no one's figured out how to return to their original universe. [ Or how to step outside this one. ] Zatanna was around for a while — not here, but her as well; she couldn't just whip up a portal home.

[He rubs his chin thoughtfully. Zatanna was pretty much their go to for all things magical and if she had nothing...]

What do you mean by here, but not here?

[ No Zatanna, no Fate... and it seems even the gods who've come and gone can't stick their foot through a portal back home when they usually can. ]

I've been away from our universe for nearly a year. The flow of time is different here, so it's as if I never disappeared. Before I wound up here, there was a number of us stuck in another universe that died out.
