TEST DRIVE MEME

Considering apping into MASK OR MENACE? Want to dip your toes into the setting and get a feel of whether your character will fit into it? Or maybe you're just cruising and want to play around? Then you've come to the right place!

Pick any of the following scenarios below or feel free to make up your own, but don't be afraid to throw yourself at anyone's thread, either!

01. Your memory is hazy and you might feel increasingly frustrated or anxious, or maybe you're excited as soldiers march past, barely glimpsing you. One second you're somewhere underground, the next you're enveloped in blue light, and suddenly you find yourself directly under Flordia sun's bright and burning glare. A female soldier steps toward you with a wide smile on her face and directs you to a car, ready to debrief you. You realize you are not the only one, surrounded by equally confused or eager faces... and you're all sporting a digital tattoo on your wrist.

02. Welcome to Cape Canaveral, where the smell of the ocean is in the air and locals are more than pleased to see new imPorts roaming their streets. They wave, they cheer, they ask for pictures as politely as they can. The more inhuman you look, or if you're wearing a costume, the more likely locals are to approach. Hey, enjoy the moment! The popular malt shop is offering you a free drink if you need it.

03. The technology in this world is certainly something. The cars are clearly modeled after popular 50s cars, but they hover several feet above the ground as they drive down the street. There are digital jukeboxes in restaurants, motorcycles also hover through traffic, advertisements can be seen on a digital projector on the taller buildings. Even kids on skateboards appear to drift a safe ten feet off the ground while playing!

04. Wherever you are, you can hear the loud revving of an engine, distance at first before you finally see it: a hovercar bursting around the corner, going beyond the maximum speed limit and just barely making its sharp turn. It doesn't appear to be slowing down any time soon, not with two police cars trailing it... and uh oh. Those skateboarding kids don't have much time to get out of the way as the car comes speeding down the road. You've been brought here for a reason Hero — so you better act fast.

[Hal's no rookie so Wally's costume doesn't bother him at all. Instead he grins at seeing what he assumes is Bart, not Wally. Wally was a grown man who stopped wearing that uniform years ago while Bart had recently taken up the mantle.]

Kid Flash! Help me out here, I know you haven't got a Lantern of your own yet, but tell them how cool I am. Someone had to have told you about all my team ups with your Gramps.

[Gramps????? He must be talking about Jay, Wally sometimes calls him Grandpa to annoy him.]

Yeah, unless you traveled back in time a few decades I'm not seeing how that's possible. But this guy? [Wally turns to the crowd and jerks his thumb over his shoulder at Hal.] Always getting his butt saved by the Flash. Like, near-constant thing. He just can't look after himself, it's sad. I mean look at him, he can barely walk without resorting to that ring! It's tragic, I tell you, just plain tragic.

[He should really know better than to rely on a teenager. He's feeling so betrayed he misses the hint that this isn't who he thinks it is.]

Firstly, that's bullshit and you know it. It's called teamwork and do you know how often he thinks he can fly and expects me to catch him? Secondly, tell me someone who wouldn't fly everywhere if they had the chance and I'll show you a liar.

[The crowd appears very interested in this little drama with their oohing and aahing at the appropriate moments.]

[ahh the hilarious sound of hal jordan getting indignant]

He's got me there, I'd fly everywhere if I could too.

[KF flaps a hand.] Plus, I guess you have to be a decent guy to indulge in that 'trust fall' thing he does. Actually, he makes it sound like he's always the one being responsible, so how about you tell me stories about when he did something reckless or crazy and you had to save him? [Wally doesn't get to hear many of those, probably because Barry still seems to think that his nephew is some kind of powder keg of self-endangerment (blow yourself up one time and nobody lets you live it down) and doesn't want to encourage him.]

[Hal trails off as he realises most of his examples are identity revealing or require prior knowledge of who he is to work. But that's not what it looks like to the people listening.

However the simple fact was Hal's presence automatically made Barry look like a saint in comparison because regardless of whatever crazy thing he might have done Hal was guaranteed to have done something worse.]

I can't exactly say it when there's a crowd.

[Yup there are a lot of rolled eyes and scoffing going on in that crowd. Wally tries not to look too delighted.]

I understand. Not appropriate for little ears? [WHICH MAKES IT SOUND EVEN WORSE??? wow kf ur a real pal]

[There's also a couple of nudge nudge wink winks and Hal would nope right out of there if he saw them.]

And too many ears. If he knew I was going to tell you half the stuff I know he'd kill me. He's a dangerous guy pretending to be a boring nerd.

What? [Kid turns to the crowd.] I gotta hear this so you all need to scram. ...go on, go! [He waves his arms until the crowd, grumbling lowly, disperses. They see plenty of imPorts and native superheroes are the norm, luckily, so they're not too star-struck to listen.

Once they're gone, KF gives Hal his full attention.] So you just got here, huh? Already collecting a fanclub?
