TEST DRIVE MEME

Considering apping into MASK OR MENACE? Want to dip your toes into the setting and get a feel of whether your character will fit into it? Or maybe you're just cruising and want to play around? Then you've come to the right place!

Pick any of the following scenarios below or feel free to make up your own, but don't be afraid to throw yourself at anyone's thread, either!

01. Your memory is hazy and you might feel increasingly frustrated or anxious, or maybe you're excited as soldiers march past, barely glimpsing you. One second you're somewhere underground, the next you're enveloped in blue light, and suddenly you find yourself directly under Flordia sun's bright and burning glare. A female soldier steps toward you with a wide smile on her face and directs you to a car, ready to debrief you. You realize you are not the only one, surrounded by equally confused or eager faces... and you're all sporting a digital tattoo on your wrist.

02. Welcome to Cape Canaveral, where the smell of the ocean is in the air and locals are more than pleased to see new imPorts roaming their streets. They wave, they cheer, they ask for pictures as politely as they can. The more inhuman you look, or if you're wearing a costume, the more likely locals are to approach. Hey, enjoy the moment! The popular malt shop is offering you a free drink if you need it.

03. The technology in this world is certainly something. The cars are clearly modeled after popular 50s cars, but they hover several feet above the ground as they drive down the street. There are digital jukeboxes in restaurants, motorcycles also hover through traffic, advertisements can be seen on a digital projector on the taller buildings. Even kids on skateboards appear to drift a safe ten feet off the ground while playing!

04. Wherever you are, you can hear the loud revving of an engine, distance at first before you finally see it: a hovercar bursting around the corner, going beyond the maximum speed limit and just barely making its sharp turn. It doesn't appear to be slowing down any time soon, not with two police cars trailing it... and uh oh. Those skateboarding kids don't have much time to get out of the way as the car comes speeding down the road. You've been brought here for a reason Hero — so you better act fast.

[With the attention off them Zatanna closes her eyes focusing for the next bit of magic she needed to do to get them out of here. It's a simple spell, one she's done plenty of times before. Normally it was scaled down but she's done bigger ones and big would probably be the one thing they would need to create the appropriate level of confusion.

Hands held out with fingers pointing to the sky, Zatanna takes a deep breath and exhales. There's no smoke to manipulate this time but they are on a street and there's plenty of light to get the same effect.]

[With a flash of light there are two clones of each of them interspersed with the crowd. Gasps go up and Zatanna takes that as her cue to do an about face in the opposite direction. She only takes a quick look over her shoulder to confirm that Conner and Wolf are following before focusing on where she was going. There was an alley about a block and a half back. Perfect place to hide and compare debrief notes.]

[They are definitely following and head into the alley with her. Superboy checks to make sure no one noticed their disappearing act and are still focused on the clones. Satisfied that they've finally gotten rid of their onlookers, he turns to give his attention to Zatanna.]

So, I take it you just got here too.

[He wonders if she got the same spiel he did about this place.]

Yeah. [She leans against the wall, slumping a little lower now that she doesn't have to be all smiles and high energy.]

Did you get the whole spiel complete with new communicator and folder containing your entire life?

[That's the good thing about not being all smiles and high energy (or maybe because he's half-Kryptonian) but Conner's just fine. He simply crosses his arms over his chest.]

I feel like they know about me than I do.

I know what you mean.

[She shudders and rubs her arms. The creeped out feeling from when she was first was debriefed is coming back and she has to force it back down. She can feel violated later.]

So...what should we do now?

[He is not the plan guy. People don't turn to him and expect him to have a plan so this is a little unnerving.]

We could check out the housing they assigned to us and see if anyone else is here. [Regrouping sounds like a good idea.]

[Sorry Superboy, but it's just you and her and that means they're both going to be adjusting to new things for the time being.]

Then I guess we should get moving. [She pushes off the wall.] Doubt if anyone else from the team is here they'll be advertising it.

[Hopefully Zatanna will tell him if he makes a stupid plan because sometimes he thinks with his fists instead of his head. But he nods and leads the way down the alley.]

If the houses aren't too bad, Wolf can stay with you tonight. [It's not like anyone can sneak up on him with a knife and kill him. At least this way, Wolf can keep an eye on her.] Probably not and I left my communicator at the mountain. Though they did give me a new phone. Seems like it can do some pretty interesting stuff. If I put my face on their network, they're bound to see me.

[Don't worry, she will but then she's prone to rash choices so maybe this partnership won't be nearly as reined in as he's hoping.]

Okay, I don't mind. [If it'll make Conner feel better to leave Wolf with her then she'll concede. She may be capable of defending and protecting herself but she doesn't think it can hurt to have an extra set of ears in a strange place.]

I like it. We can get that taken care of after we check out the housing we were assigned.
