TEST DRIVE MEME
Considering apping into MASK OR MENACE? Want to dip your toes into the setting and get a feel of whether your character will fit into it? Or maybe you're just cruising and want to play around? Then you've come to the right place!
Pick any of the following scenarios below or feel free to make up your own, but don't be afraid to throw yourself at anyone's thread, either!
And remember to have fun!01. Your memory is hazy and you might feel increasingly frustrated or anxious, or maybe you're excited as soldiers march past, barely glimpsing you. One second you're somewhere underground, the next you're enveloped in blue light, and suddenly you find yourself directly under Flordia sun's bright and burning glare. A female soldier steps toward you with a wide smile on her face and directs you to a car, ready to debrief you. You realize you are not the only one, surrounded by equally confused or eager faces... and you're all sporting a digital tattoo on your wrist.
02. Welcome to Cape Canaveral, where the smell of the ocean is in the air and locals are more than pleased to see new imPorts roaming their streets. They wave, they cheer, they ask for pictures as politely as they can. The more inhuman you look, or if you're wearing a costume, the more likely locals are to approach. Hey, enjoy the moment! The popular malt shop is offering you a free drink if you need it.
03. The technology in this world is certainly something. The cars are clearly modeled after popular 50s cars, but they hover several feet above the ground as they drive down the street. There are digital jukeboxes in restaurants, motorcycles also hover through traffic, advertisements can be seen on a digital projector on the taller buildings. Even kids on skateboards appear to drift a safe ten feet off the ground while playing!
04. Wherever you are, you can hear the loud revving of an engine, distance at first before you finally see it: a hovercar bursting around the corner, going beyond the maximum speed limit and just barely making its sharp turn. It doesn't appear to be slowing down any time soon, not with two police cars trailing it... and uh oh. Those skateboarding kids don't have much time to get out of the way as the car comes speeding down the road. You've been brought here for a reason Hero — so you better act fast.

[ Bader empathized with the very basic, necessitous and gnawing sensation of hunger; it was one of the few things she could still feel. Wolves she related to and readily offered a hand, or paw, to more than humans after her own adopted pack on the Northern California reservations had taken her in.
Without another word Bader took off at a dead run down towards main street and into the thick of civilization. It had been some time but no more than ten, maybe twenty minutes before Bader- or something that sounded exactly like her came walking up the path again. It was a woman somewhere in her twenties very pale and hiding a strongly built frame under her heavy jacket that seemed out of place in this heat. ]
The only upside is the humans that bring us here don't really think twice about wolves on the streets, especially talking ones. [ Bader doesn't explain herself; she knows she smells the same and Toboe seemed smart enough. She sits out on the grass and drops something wrapped in brown paper she had been carrying in front of him and pulls on the white string tying it together. It's a raw steak fresh enough to still be bleeding. ]

[ Toboe watches her leave, but stays put for now, waitning for the other's return. And when she does, it doesn't seem to surprise Toboe that she is looking human, mostly because he can do the same. Well - sort of; it's an illusion. All wolves from his world can look human and can mingle with humans like that, so what Bader just did is the most natural thing to Tobe.
When she places the raw steak on the ground, the pup figures it's easier for him to do the same and use his illusion to look human, now that no one was staring. In just a blink of an eye, what was once a red wolf is now a boy, no older than fourteen years of age, and he is quick to sit down and grab the meat with his hands ]
Thank you! [ Toboe bites on it, easily taking a piece, even if his teeth look human and blunt and wouldn't normally slice through raw meat like that. ]
Did they just give you the steak? Humans usually ask for something in return. [ money. But he has no understanding of it ]

Did the Porter teach you that? It's a nifty thing to know.
[ She knew he was not like her not that they weren't obviously both of a similar breed, but Toboe smelled very much alive and was most definitely not another Gangrel. The smell was wrong, and the illusion more fluid. He was an anomaly for sure, but a nice kid and something she could relate to more easily than with humans. She even was on point guessing his age; he was a little thing as a boy. ]
Mhmm. [ Bader dug into her jeans and pulled out an old leather flip wallet and showed it to Toboe. Inside was a drivers license, a bus pass, and a debit card with her name etched in all three. She smiled before it was stuffed back into her pocket.]
Humans can be used for work and money if you know how to blend in. Only here they get curious about imPorts, and the attention can be good for some things. Shelter, for one.

if she pays close attention, however, Toboe's shadow is of a wolf, not human. And if she pays close attention and really hard, she can glimpse through Toboe's illusion and in place of a boy the is a wolf for half of a second there.
