Considering apping into MASK OR MENACE? Want to dip your toes into the setting and get a feel of whether your character will fit into it? Or maybe you're just cruising and want to play around? Then you've come to the right place!

Pick any of the following scenarios below or feel free to make up your own, but don't be afraid to throw yourself at someone else's thread, either!

And remember there's only one rule in Test Drive Meme Club: HAVE FUN ON THE TEST DRIVE MEME!

01.The city of Heropa is what one might expect from a small, bright and cheery place, where locals are friendly enough and local shop owners might offer a free drink to welcome you to their fair city.

Everyone’s in preparation for the arrival of Autumn! A small street fair has dedicated itself to welcoming Fall with open arms. Harvest foods have practically taken over— hot pumpkin-themed drinks, warm apple pies, and butternut squash soups are everywhere. One stall in particular has a scarecrow-building class, providing with plenty of patched up clothes and straw.

If you stay late enough at the fair to see the moon rise, you’ll notice it takes on a deep orange glow— pretty normal for a harvest moon. But it’s strange… a few scarecrows also seem to share the same color glow from their eyes. Maybe it’s just a reflection…?

    02. De Chima, Virginia, is a large city with a healthy economy, with large numbers of citizens waiting to be awed by your very presence. Look at you! Organic wonder! Synthetic wonder! Whatever you might be, those words have meaning here. Science and technology are the lifeblood of this city, so you're likely to come across a good many locals taking your picture with the newest of devices or recently published PLoS papers. The imPort craze remains high here, and you may find yourself cornered by overzealous imPort fans, media wannabes and opportunists alike, shoving cameras in your face.

If you let yourself get cornered, beware! Anything from personal questions about romantic chances to bedroom habits to dietary queries might be come up!

    Although what really seems to be the question of the month for those hardhitting journalists is a little less of the mundane;

"So what do you think about the recent Import mission to Mars? How much did that cost the government, and what will the repercussions be?"

Maybe they're hoping for a psychic Import on these matters...

    03. Maurtia Falls, Pennsylvania has carried a reputation for ups and downs ever since imPorts began reappearing again, just those few years prior. Several imPort heroes have put focused efforts into cleaning up the streets of this somewhat infamous city, while a handful of others had swooped in to help the criminal industry thrive. More so here than the streets of any other imPort city, the battle between good and evil looks more like a war of escalation than a heroic tale. Everything from the classic bank heist to brutal bloodbaths can happen around the corner. You have to keep your eyes open and your mind sharp when you live in Maurtia Falls, and hostility against imPorts can spike. The emergence of locals with superpowers is hardly helping... #THANKS TONY STARK, #ya muffin.

Up ahead, it seems like there’s a traffic jam- or rather, a complete deadlock. But strangely, no one’s honking their honks or trying to zoom around other cars. Upon closer inspection, it seems like everyone is stock-still, with blank expressions upon their faces. The only figure moving in the crowd is a woman with a rather strange black and white outfit…

It seems like yet another local with superpowers has emerged from the woodwork- perhaps literally, in this case, given that she’s dressed up like a mushroom.

It seems that Feelia Fungus has taken to telepathically freezing the entire intersection with her mind control “spores” while she helps herself to robbing civilians of their belongings. It’s up to you to stop her!

Remember: September is known for being mushroom hunting season!

    04. Nonah, North Carolina, is the liveliest of all cities; loud, busy and there's always some kind of energy in the air that gets everyone buzzing with excitement.

One might think that being such an industrial-based city, Nonah might might leave behind old cultural traditions. But with their motto of “Work Hard, Play Hard,” they certainly wouldn’t forget about a holiday they hold dear: Oktoberfest.

The germanic celebration is in full force this week, complete with stalls giving away beer, and various snacks like brazen and würstl, along with various cakes. Anyone underage will be given a nice warm cider instead, and some natives may even try to convince you into wearing some classic dress- a dirndl.

For those with a more competitive streak, there’s a crossbow contest for most bull’s eyes hit!

["Oh my god," he said aloud. To his empty office room.]

No, he isn't. Not anymore. Neither is Will Graham. There's the Hobbs girl. Abigail Hobbs.

And then there is me.

[Hobbs girl? She'll have to think on that.]

That must've been quite something for you. Having Lecter around.
slightlyoffchilt: (Rebus.)

[personal profile] slightlyoffchilt 2018-09-28 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
The second time around, yes. Before I knew of course what he was. Before I wrote my book about him.

You don't know Freddie Lounds, do you, Agent Starling?

[Well. Freddy in Clarice's universe. A little Rule 63 in this Chilton's own.]

Only as a tabloid reporter and unfortunate soul. Never personally.

Why?
slightlyoffchilt: (Shambolic.)

[personal profile] slightlyoffchilt 2018-09-28 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
She was here, too. Years ago. I've been here for years, I should say. There are a few of us in similar predicaments.

Time seems to freeze, when we are away from our natural universe. Astounding how linear, chronological time itself seems subjective. Individualized. Is it any wonder that imPorts here grow complacent with power?

[personal profile] cornercheck 2018-09-28 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
She? The Lounds I knew of was male.

[But we can revisit that in a second.]

Have you shifted your focus to ImPorts here, Dr. Chilton? Study them like you studied Lecter?
slightlyoffchilt: (Sere.)

[personal profile] slightlyoffchilt 2018-09-28 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
I have, yes. [The matter of Lounds' gender would have to wait, they were talking about him again!!!!] Although this isn't quite like BSHCI. Far fewer psychopaths, far more anxiety disorders.

But our kind even with anxiety, given the power sets some of us are imbued with? Remarkably dangerous.

[Some things never change.]

Having witnessed your methods firsthand, I rest assured you're doing the utmost to protect society from true harm. Do you have any such cases as patients right now?
slightlyoffchilt: (Proscribe.)

[personal profile] slightlyoffchilt 2018-09-28 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
[Wait a second.

Uh oh.
]

"My methods?"

Currently, no.

[Because he's employing those who he would otherwise diagnose with psychopathic tendencies, naturally!]

[personal profile] cornercheck 2018-09-28 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
Your methods.

[Petty ones. Why elaborate when we don't need to.]

Find it rather odd that with all those considerations toward the danger of our "kind", as you put it, that you're lacking in subjects. Or are there others in your field that have sniped them first before you could get a chance?
slightlyoffchilt: (Informative.)

[personal profile] slightlyoffchilt 2018-09-28 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
None left to challenge my dominion.
My more potent patients have since exported out. Something of a professional hazard in this world. But I've written a bestselling book on one of them, if you're so inclined to read it.

Walter White: The Methodical Man.
(Sold at any reputable book store.)

[Nothing has changed. Literally. Nothing has changed.]

Maybe I'll check it out of the library next time I'm there.
slightlyoffchilt: (Epigram.)

[personal profile] slightlyoffchilt 2018-09-28 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
I have a copy that I would prefer to give you. If need be.

[personal profile] cornercheck 2018-09-28 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
I'd hate to make you go to the trouble.

[You're going to anyway, aren't you. Hedging bets on signed, to boot.]

Who was Walter White?
slightlyoffchilt: (Spatiate.)

[personal profile] slightlyoffchilt 2018-09-28 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
[FUCK HE'S ALREADY SIGNING IT FOR HER and setting it aside!!]

A remarkable man, truly one of the more unique minds. Violent narcissist, episodic paranoia, low empathy. He ran a methamphetamine empire. Mass murderer.

He had kidnapped me. Some of my best analysis.
cornercheck: (006)

[personal profile] cornercheck 2018-09-28 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
[Profits too, she bets.]

Takes a certain personality to take something so dark and pull out the positive from it. Congratulations on your book, Doctor.
slightlyoffchilt: (Carping.)

[personal profile] slightlyoffchilt 2018-09-28 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you.

I must ask, Agent.
How do we know each other?

[A question he should have saved for their in-person meeting, but he was a slave to his own curiosity.]
cornercheck: (008)

[personal profile] cornercheck 2018-09-28 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
Crawford had me visit your hospital to interview Lecter in regards to a case. In honesty, that's the extent of our cross over.

[And she's fine with it staying that way.]
slightlyoffchilt: (Look.)

[personal profile] slightlyoffchilt 2018-09-28 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
Alana Bloom has since taken my position at BSHCI.]

[Alan Bloom, in her world.]

Unless I reclaim it?

[Well we never got a season 4 so we don't know!!!!!!!! But something isn't adding up in his head, something is making him nervous.]

I think I really just need to meet you. Face to face.
cornercheck: (007)

[personal profile] cornercheck 2018-09-28 05:07 pm (UTC)(link)
['Need'. She's more reluctant than before, but having dealt with Chilton before - she can take this. Might come out of it with a paper weight if she's lucky. Feeling of greased over repulsion if she's not. There's a short delay, purposeful to make him wait.]

I'll be seeing you at the hospital at two then, Doctor. We can talk more then.
slightlyoffchilt: (Spatiate.)

[personal profile] slightlyoffchilt 2018-09-29 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
Should I give you directions? Or has your research already yielded you the results? You know have to navigate the internet, I assume.
cornercheck: (009)

[personal profile] cornercheck 2018-09-29 03:34 am (UTC)(link)
I'm sure I could find my way, but in the interest of ensuring I have the correct address I'm not opposed to additional directions.

[Speaking with the formality of a penned letter, do you think she really has the familiarity with the net?]

Maurtia Falls, correct?
slightlyoffchilt: (Toast.)

[personal profile] slightlyoffchilt 2018-09-29 06:33 am (UTC)(link)
Maurtia Falls, indeed.

[He sends her a screencap of googlemaps directions, from the Maurtia Falls transport porter to his hospital.]

I might recommend a shared car service. Or I could retrieve you myself.
cornercheck: (015)

[personal profile] cornercheck 2018-09-29 08:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll be just fine, I'm no stranger to a taxi. See you at two, Dr. Chilton.

[She'd really rather not have to thank him for another unnecessarily extended courtesy, so she's determined to get there by her own merit. Taxis are far more familiar than 'shared car services', another term to look into - not hard to gauge it'd be some sort of car pool, but is that in style here? Technology seems so pervasive into everyday living. The possibilities for danger are so... great.

But that's later Clarice's thoughts to thumb through, while also figuring out where the hell she sits in this place. She'll need to network for a job, see what she can get if she can't find a placement similar to what she had, but she can't let on to Chilton that she's uncertain about anything. So when she shows up at the hospital, it's in a long black trench coat, over square blocked heels and a blouse and trousers with an equally dated edge - but she stands, even still, with an air of confidence and nonchalance.

She lingers in the lobby after getting directions from a teen working security. Notices another young man at the reception and wonders if the age of the two of them is simply a variable of ImPort odds or a conscious choice. Wouldn't put it past Chilton to want to look grand, giving out positions for the profit of looking good. Adjusting the strap of her briefcase over one shoulder, she makes her way along the corridors toward his office - letting her eyes linger on other doorways as she passes them with a strange feeling of deja vu.]
slightlyoffchilt: (Panegyric.)

[personal profile] slightlyoffchilt 2018-10-02 03:32 pm (UTC)(link)
[He really couldn't know what he was expecting. His world, or at least his timeline, hadn't any Agent Starling. And yet this individual knew all the right people -- Jack Crawford, Hannibal Lecter. All these names so deeply relevant to Chilton himself. Starling, he felt he should know that one.

He feared that he would, eventually. In Baltimore proper.
]

Agent Starling?

[Opening the door for her, he was taken aback by her youth. He just... Hadn't assumed that, given her (albeit brief) difficulty with the technology.

Taking a step back, he allowed her into his office. A soaring ceiling, an in-built bookshelf framing his high-backed leather chair and mahogany desk. Three decanters fitting into that bookshelf, not-so-stealthily distributed amidst the psychiatric text. Decanters of different volumes and filled to different degrees.

The color scheme favored black, gold, and light blue. Greco-Roman accents, noticeably cutting into the trim, the marbled bust in the corner. Two options for seating before his desk: a pale blue sedan and a hard wooden chair.

Chilton himself, in his early 40s. Less lanky, more apprehensive.

Would you like a drink?
