TEST DRIVE MEME

01. Your memory is hazy and you might feel increasingly frustrated or anxious, or maybe you're excited as soldiers march past, barely glimpsing you. One second you're somewhere underground, the next you're enveloped in blue light, and suddenly you find yourself directly under Flordia sun's bright and burning glare. A female soldier steps toward you with a wide smile on her face and directs you to a car, ready to debrief you. You realize you are not the only one, surrounded by equally confused or eager faces... and you're all sporting a digital tattoo on your wrist.

02. Welcome to Cape Canaveral, where the smell of the ocean is in the air and locals are more than pleased to see new imPorts roaming their streets. They wave, they cheer, they ask for pictures as politely as they can. The more inhuman you look, or if you're wearing a costume, the more likely locals are to approach. Hey, enjoy the moment! The popular malt shop is offering you a free drink if you need it.

03. The technology in this world is certainly something. The cars are clearly modeled after popular 50s cars, but they hover several feet above the ground as they drive down the street. There are digital jukeboxes in restaurants, motorcycles also hover through traffic, advertisements can be seen on a digital projector on the taller buildings. Even kids on skateboards appear to drift a safe ten feet off the ground while playing!

04. Wherever you are, you can hear the loud revving of an engine, distance at first before you finally see it: a hovercar bursting around the corner, going beyond the maximum speed limit and just barely making its sharp turn. It doesn't appear to be slowing down any time soon, not with two police cars trailing it... and uh oh. Those skateboarding kids don't have much time to get out of the way as the car comes speeding down the road. You've been brought here for a reason Hero — so you better act fast.

[Hyouka doesn't know where he is and there are soldiers. Instantly, he's on the defensive. Fortunately none of the guns are drawn so his programming doesn't kick in, but he's still drawn his beam sword and stepped away from the smiling woman. He looks around frantically:]
Mother? Father? Where are you?! Teika, Yuuka, Ginka --
[Who feels up for trying to calm down the robot before he exhausts the name list? Or, y'know, before he actually swings that thing. Yeesh.]

02.
[Hyouka did not like this place. Hyouka wanted to go home, Hyouka wanted his family. After calming down and being debriefed he had soared up in the sky to see if he could spot them from the air -- no such luck. Land garnered as much success, as he could barely ask any questions through the crowd of people that gathered. Apparently no one had seen a lion, a jellyfish or a ~~god~~ girl with purple cat ears. The rest of the family's descriptions were too vague to even hope for results - he learnt that the hard way when someone had thought they'd seen Father.
In the end he slipped (ran very abruptly) away from the crowd so that he could process the situation.
And that's how the ~7ft robot ended up hunched over in the malt shop gazing woefully at his drink. (Hey, it was free.) Granted, the lack of facial features makes it hard to tell...]

[ Freddie had just hopped over to the malt shop to get a quick drink. Drink, then hit up the photography store, then update her website. However, as she placed her drink order, she turned around...to spot a seven foot robot looking at a drink.

What. The. Hell.

Frown on her face, Freddie walked over to Hyouka, blatantly staring. Was this a promotion of some kind? Or was this an actual robot brought in by the Porter? She knew that there were former robots here (they kept on whining about their sudden case of humanity) and she knew that there were actual robots here (who kept on gloating about their lack of humanity.) But this...she had no idea.

So, still blatantly staring at Hyouka, Freddie eventually sacrificed her dignity and said, ] Can you even drink that?

[ Freddie Lounds: apparently prejudiced against robots. ]

[Hyouka turned his head to look at... another local? He thought he'd gotten away from most of them, how bothersome. But then she asked about his drink. Did... did she want it?]

Yes. [And with that a hole appears in his face and vwiiiiiip. His black-hole mouth closes and the cup is empty. At least he's not wasteful.]

...Solid foods are better.

[ Cue more staring. That's not normal. She just can't help but stare at Hyouka, eyes looking back to the cup, then up to him again.

Sorry dude. Freddie's wigged out. ]

That's...unexpected.

[He can't say he's not used to it, at least. Or that he doesn't agree.]

It's freakish, isn't it?

A bit, [ Freddie responded, with a frown. ] My world doesn't have anything like you in it.

Your 'world'?

[Does she mean this one, or... it dawns on Hyouka that she may actually be another imPort. He wasn't sure how to interpret the 'like you', either.

He turns on his seat to give her his full attention now that his drink is gone.]

Do you not have biological weapons in your world? [It's such an everyday phrase in his life that he doesn't consider how it'd sound to someone unused to it.]

Our biological weapons don't walk and talk. [ She leans back in her seat, looking over Hyouka, article headlines already writing themselves in her mind. ]

They're not even sentient.

Ah... [Hyouka bows his head for as he takes that in. Is her world less advanced? Or... The silence stretches on for a moment.]

Do you not have AI either?

Not like you. I mean, we've got Siri. [ Though does he even know who Siri is? ] AI to find information and to run programs, not fluently converse with others.

[Hyouka does know who Siri is but he gets the gist quickly enough, with only one misunderstanding.]

Ah, I see. Are 'Siri' in this world too?
