TEST DRIVE MEME
Considering apping into MASK OR MENACE? Want to dip your toes into the setting and get a feel of whether your character will fit into it? Or maybe you're just cruising and want to play around? Then you've come to the right place!
Pick any of the following scenarios below or feel free to make up your own, but don't be afraid to throw yourself at anyone's thread, either!
And remember to have fun!01. Your memory is hazy and you might feel increasingly frustrated or anxious, or maybe you're excited as soldiers march past, barely glimpsing you. One second you're somewhere underground, the next you're enveloped in blue light, and suddenly you find yourself directly under Flordia sun's bright and burning glare. A female soldier steps toward you with a wide smile on her face and directs you to a car, ready to debrief you. You realize you are not the only one, surrounded by equally confused or eager faces... and you're all sporting a digital tattoo on your wrist.
02. Welcome to Cape Canaveral, where the smell of the ocean is in the air and locals are more than pleased to see new imPorts roaming their streets. They wave, they cheer, they ask for pictures as politely as they can. The more inhuman you look, or if you're wearing a costume, the more likely locals are to approach. Hey, enjoy the moment! The popular malt shop is offering you a free drink if you need it.
03. The technology in this world is certainly something. The cars are clearly modeled after popular 50s cars, but they hover several feet above the ground as they drive down the street. There are digital jukeboxes in restaurants, motorcycles also hover through traffic, advertisements can be seen on a digital projector on the taller buildings. Even kids on skateboards appear to drift a safe ten feet off the ground while playing!
04. Wherever you are, you can hear the loud revving of an engine, distance at first before you finally see it: a hovercar bursting around the corner, going beyond the maximum speed limit and just barely making its sharp turn. It doesn't appear to be slowing down any time soon, not with two police cars trailing it... and uh oh. Those skateboarding kids don't have much time to get out of the way as the car comes speeding down the road. You've been brought here for a reason Hero — so you better act fast.

Her eyes fixate on Zoey and she pushes past the locals asking her questions about her clothes and other nonsense. Her forehead has long broken out in sweat no thanks to this weather. This heat is making her sick to her stomach. ]
You! [ Aureole calls without hesitation, still frowning. ] Are you... lost as well? I heard you, didn't I?
no subject
Sorry. I was a little distracted trying to find any friends, that I missed you calling for me. I take it that you're just as lost as me?

[ She huffs, lifting her dress to move closer Zoey, regarding the clothes on her and her other belongings. She doesn't look like she's part of this land either. ]
Are your friends here?

[Despite Zoey's words, she was more worried about what she didn't see rather than what she did. She hadn't spotted any familiar people so far, and this teen was the first to even speak to her.]
I haven't seen them yet, so either they're not here or somewhere else in this place. I'm Zoey by the way.

She doesn't like this one bit. It makes her skin crawl to think one of the worst things that could have happened to her has. ]
If they're dressed anything like you are, they should be easy to find. [ She pauses. ] Aureole.

Nice to meet you Aureole.

[ She eyes the vest with scrutiny, clearly not convinced by the fabric or design. Where is the leather? Or the fur lining the neck? ]
They don't look fit for it.
[ But a dress that covers her down to her ankles isn't exactly appropriate wear for Florida weather either. She thinks she'll melt in this blaze before she suffocates. ]

Well okay. In my defense, I'm not used to this warm weather. I'm from a very cold city called Snowpoint City.
no subject
This heat is unbearable. I feel I might be sick.
[ She frowns then. ]
Snowpoint? I've never heard of it. [ A beat, considering. ] Do you believe what the soldiers said when we were underground?
... That we're not in our worlds anymore?
no subject
I can't say I blame you. [Was the orange-haired girl referring to the first comment or second? It was difficult to discover which one.] Right now I'm trying to summarize what is true and what isn't. One, we were transported here by something unknown to us. And as much as I hate believing words of strangers, it's entirely possible some of what they say is truthful. My earliest memory before I woke up here was... well. I was on the way home.

[ That's the last she can recall. She had been by herself at the time, but was expecting her mother to come by at any moment to lecture her about skipping another lesson.
Her mother must be throwing a fit over her disappearance. ]
I don't know if they were telling the truth and I doubt it... but bringing the both of us from different parts of the land must mean they have been using powerful magic of some sort.
[ She doesn't know a lot about magic and has never heard of the kind that could rip someone from their land, but it's the only "logical" explanation that comes to mind. ]
