TEST DRIVE MEME

Considering apping into MASK OR MENACE? Want to dip your toes into the setting and get a feel of whether your character will fit into it? Or maybe you're just cruising and want to play around? Then you've come to the right place!

Pick any of the following scenarios below or feel free to make up your own, but don't be afraid to throw yourself at anyone's thread, either!

01. Your memory is hazy and you might feel increasingly frustrated or anxious, or maybe you're excited as soldiers march past, barely glimpsing you. One second you're somewhere underground, the next you're enveloped in blue light, and suddenly you find yourself directly under Flordia sun's bright and burning glare. A female soldier steps toward you with a wide smile on her face and directs you to a car, ready to debrief you. You realize you are not the only one, surrounded by equally confused or eager faces... and you're all sporting a digital tattoo on your wrist.

02. Welcome to Cape Canaveral, where the smell of the ocean is in the air and locals are more than pleased to see new imPorts roaming their streets. They wave, they cheer, they ask for pictures as politely as they can. The more inhuman you look, or if you're wearing a costume, the more likely locals are to approach. Hey, enjoy the moment! The popular malt shop is offering you a free drink if you need it.

03. The technology in this world is certainly something. The cars are clearly modeled after popular 50s cars, but they hover several feet above the ground as they drive down the street. There are digital jukeboxes in restaurants, motorcycles also hover through traffic, advertisements can be seen on a digital projector on the taller buildings. Even kids on skateboards appear to drift a safe ten feet off the ground while playing!

04. Wherever you are, you can hear the loud revving of an engine, distance at first before you finally see it: a hovercar bursting around the corner, going beyond the maximum speed limit and just barely making its sharp turn. It doesn't appear to be slowing down any time soon, not with two police cars trailing it... and uh oh. Those skateboarding kids don't have much time to get out of the way as the car comes speeding down the road. You've been brought here for a reason Hero — so you better act fast.

Dio's gone, Jotaro. The stone mask was destroyed after we fought him...

[Wait. Hang on, this guy had said something about going on a honeymoon to New York? Jotaro hadn't really been paying attention to all of that earlier so it hadn't occurred to him, but now that he's brought up Dio, his mind flashes back to the stories Joseph told him. That was where...

...holy shit, this could be his great-great-grandfather. And he doesn't even know what happens.] If you are Jonathan Joestar, I regret having to tell you, you didn't finish the job.

Dio was locked in a coffin beneath the ocean for a hundred years, but now he's back. And I'm going to stop him for good.

[He's not even going to bring up that Dio has Jonathan's body and that he never got to see his family. That's a bit too pitiless for even him.]

[His face drops. Not necessarily because the job wasn't finished- yes, it's unfortunate that lives were lost for a somewhat fruitless effort but, Jonathan still cares about Dio.]

Huh... well- [He can't really say anything, the fact that Dio is still alive, and once again being a total fucking jerk, is quite shocking.]

There's no mistaking it.

He's put a curse on the Joestar bloodline. If we don't stop him, your great-granddaughter will die from the strain of her awakened Stand.

[Totally a different reaction from Joseph, let's face it.]

Last I checked it was 1889. [Here stands a man just days before his impending doom.] Sorry I probably don't live long enough to see you be brought into this world. This is so bizarre!

[Even though he's just found out that he's a grandpa, a great-great one at that, he's still proud like every grandpa ought to be. Sorry Jotaro. Atleast he's nice and not... rude?

He extends a hand to Jotaro- a hug might be too weird, he figured.]

I'm from 1989. This is further ahead from even me.

Like I said, my great-great-grandmother died when my mother was a child. Normal humans just can't be expected to live so long. [And also you were long dead by that point anyway.

Oh. He wants to... shake his hand. Okay, this is kind of awkward, but sure, when you meet your long-dead great-great-grandfather, why not? So Jotaro walks back over to him, coolly extending a hand, and clasping Jonathan's own in a very firm grip.] You too, even if it's hard to believe.

[The handshake is quick in a business like way, but also faintly warm. Like Jonathan is so proud of you Jotaro even though he just met you. Wow.]

Well, no one can be expected to live over a hundred years. [That's just silly.]

It may be hard to believe but if we both claim to be from different times then the present day, there is some truth to our testimonies...

[Which means Dio is very much alive and being an evil bastard again. It fills Jonathan's heart with much dread and disappointment. Dio, why can't you just die and move on...]

No human, anyway.

[He lets go of Jonathan's hand, shoving his own hand back into his pockets.] It's not contradictory. It's just bizarre.
