TEST DRIVE MEME
Considering apping into MASK OR MENACE? Want to dip your toes into the setting and get a feel of whether your character will fit into it? Or maybe you're just cruising and want to play around? Then you've come to the right place!
Pick any of the following scenarios below or feel free to make up your own, but don't be afraid to throw yourself at anyone's thread, either!
And remember to have fun!01. Your memory is hazy and you might feel increasingly frustrated or anxious, or maybe you're excited as soldiers march past, barely glimpsing you. One second you're somewhere underground, the next you're enveloped in blue light, and suddenly you find yourself directly under Flordia sun's bright and burning glare. A female soldier steps toward you with a wide smile on her face and directs you to a car, ready to debrief you. You realize you are not the only one, surrounded by equally confused or eager faces... and you're all sporting a digital tattoo on your wrist.
02. Welcome to Cape Canaveral, where the smell of the ocean is in the air and locals are more than pleased to see new imPorts roaming their streets. They wave, they cheer, they ask for pictures as politely as they can. The more inhuman you look, or if you're wearing a costume, the more likely locals are to approach. Hey, enjoy the moment! The popular malt shop is offering you a free drink if you need it.
03. The technology in this world is certainly something. The cars are clearly modeled after popular 50s cars, but they hover several feet above the ground as they drive down the street. There are digital jukeboxes in restaurants, motorcycles also hover through traffic, advertisements can be seen on a digital projector on the taller buildings. Even kids on skateboards appear to drift a safe ten feet off the ground while playing!
04. Wherever you are, you can hear the loud revving of an engine, distance at first before you finally see it: a hovercar bursting around the corner, going beyond the maximum speed limit and just barely making its sharp turn. It doesn't appear to be slowing down any time soon, not with two police cars trailing it... and uh oh. Those skateboarding kids don't have much time to get out of the way as the car comes speeding down the road. You've been brought here for a reason Hero — so you better act fast.

Really, Michael? If you're going to be that way you can keep walking. And here I was going to offer you to sit with me and chat.
[He seems sort of wilted now, that cheery smile gone and replaced with what appears to be slight pain.]
I know we have had our differences in the past, but this isn't our world anymore.

[Michael dropped his arms, a hand reaching up to pat Gabriel's shoulder. He didn't like the way his brother's face fell at the greeting, and while they did have their differences, he was right. This wasn't their world.]
It isn't, but that doesn't mean you won't try the same thing here.
[They were still human in this place, even if not the same humans from their world. Humans were humans, and Gabriel didn't like them. Michael couldn't imagine that his treatment of them would be any different, no matter the location he was in.]
The world is different, but you are the same, are you not?
[A sarcastic and amused expression replaced the previously unhappy one.]
Unless you are trying to tell me that you no longer wish to cleanse the Earth of humans. If so.. [Mock fear, mouth a wide O shape as he sucked in sharply.] ..who are you, and what have you done with the real Gabriel?
no subject
[Not that he could really blame Michael for being suspicious, because that's exactly what he planned to do. He snorts with a tinge of amusement at his brothers exaggerated attempt at humor. He then rolls his eyes.]
Yes, well, these humans are a bit different aren't they? They're more aware of creatures much more powerful than them and have much more advanced defenses, mostly in other humans blessed with powers greater than my own, or so it seems. I'm a bit out-classed here and I'm no fool. I know when I've been beat before the start.
I still wish to cleanse the earth, but I won't take that risk when I know my chances are entirely too slim to be worth the effort. [It sounded good and he hoped Michael bought his reasoning behind giving up his genocidal quest.]

That was.. long winded.
[But, how he wanted to have faith in Gabriel's words. Everything would be so much easier between them if they weren't on opposite sides. A pipe dream, for there would never be real peace between the two archangels.]
I'll join you.
[Michael didn't think that Gabriel would just run around and start killing, at least not here and now. So, for the time being, they could be civil with one another. The archangel sat down next to his brother, looking out over the crowded streets.]
no subject
Well, that's not necessarily true, it's them, there was still a risk of a fight. Just not the kind that could wind up with buildings leveled and people dead.]
... it's... kind of sad, I don't know what to do, it's been so long since we could just... be normal. Not enemies, but... brothers, again.
[He manages a small smile but fidgets somewhat. He missed it. They never got opportunities like this. Sure, they spoke during the war and after, but it was mostly to discuss important matters and check in on each other.]
Did you want anything? [Motioning to the menu.]
no subject
[Even before the war with the humans, they had fought, but not like this. It was hard to look at his brother without feeling a surge of rage, or pity, or some other difficult to process emotion. This could be different, a small part of him hoped, they could be different here.
It was putting a lot of pressure on this place, thinking that it could be what gives him his brother back. If they weren't on opposite sides, the two could try to salvage what was left between them. Michael looks down at the menu, brows creasing as he read it over.]
What do you suggest?
[The menu displayed a wide variety of food, but Michael had no particular attachment to any of it. Gabriel had always had more of a proclivity for human food and drink, so whatever he suggested, he'd have that.]
no subject
It's my first time here, I'm not sure what's good. I'd hope all of it.
[He leans over to peer at Michael's menu as if it were different somehow.]
Why not pick something you've not tried before?
ehehe
I guess I'll try the pudding.
[He motions to a waitress, and orders, tapping his fingers together as he waits for it to be brought back to the table.]
This all seems unsubstantial. [The archangel was struggling a little with being thrown here, with no purpose to speak of.]
Why are we even here?
