now don't be rude

TEST DRIVE MEME
Considering apping into MASK OR MENACE? Want to dip your toes into the setting and get a feel of whether your character will fit into it? Or maybe you're just cruising and want to play around? Then you've come to the right place!

Pick any of the following scenarios below or feel free to make up your own, but don't be afraid to throw yourself at anyone's thread, either!

And remember to have fun!

    01. Your memory is hazy and you might feel increasingly frustrated or anxious, or maybe you're excited as soldiers march past, barely glimpsing you. One second you're somewhere underground, the next you're enveloped in blue light, and suddenly you find yourself directly under Flordia sun's bright and burning glare. A female soldier steps toward you with a wide smile on her face and directs you to a car, ready to debrief you. You realize you are not the only one, surrounded by equally confused or eager faces... and you're all sporting a digital tattoo on your wrist.

    02. Welcome to Cape Canaveral, where the smell of the ocean is in the air and locals are more than pleased to see new imPorts roaming their streets. They wave, they cheer, they ask for pictures as politely as they can. The more inhuman you look, or if you're wearing a costume, the more likely locals are to approach. Hey, enjoy the moment! The popular malt shop is offering you a free drink if you need it.

    03. The technology in this world is certainly something. The cars are clearly modeled after popular 50s cars, but they hover several feet above the ground as they drive down the street. There are digital jukeboxes in restaurants, motorcycles also hover through traffic, advertisements can be seen on a digital projector on the taller buildings. Even kids on skateboards appear to drift a safe ten feet off the ground while playing!

    04. Wherever you are, you can hear the loud revving of an engine, distance at first before you finally see it: a hovercar bursting around the corner, going beyond the maximum speed limit and just barely making its sharp turn. It doesn't appear to be slowing down any time soon, not with two police cars trailing it... and uh oh. Those skateboarding kids don't have much time to get out of the way as the car comes speeding down the road. You've been brought here for a reason Hero — so you better act fast.

Yes, sir, thank you, sir.

But...

[His hesitation was minute. He took a deep breath. Of course, it was best to tell the truth to a man who was, in a sense, his commanding officer. He returned Erwin's bluntness with his own, though he wasn't nearly so calm, growing visibly heated.}

I'm already working with the Survey Corps, sir. I've turned against the Military Police in order to serve humanity and assist Captain Levi in his strike against the Central Branch. Their crimes were too great, so I could not stand with them. I am always on the side of what's right! You can consider me no different from one of your own men. I am yours to command.

[Erwin didn't say anything right away as they walked, digging his keys out his pocket once they reached the car. But before unlocking the door, he turned to look at Marlowe with a serious look, even though he recognized that genuine intent behind his words.]

Then you'll know that the position of the Survey Corps is not a good one, we are fighting for humanity. You will be one of the Survey Corps then, Marlowe, your dedication is admirable and something to be respected. [Erwin said honestly before he turned to unlock and open the passenger side door of the car for him.]

[The silence didn't bother Marlowe. He wasn't the chattiest person, and he was content to follow Erwin in silence, scanning their surroundings, though he did look searchingly at the car once they arrived at it. The vehicles were still strange to him.]

Yes, I understand the situation. [He's fully aware of the danger he's put himself in, but he's prepared to make whatever sacrifice is necessary, if it means the wrongs of the world will be righted. He has a great deal to say on that subject, but he doesn't engage in unnecessary talk with his superiors. Commander Erwin is much more intimidating than the drunken superiors he's usually worked with. But Marlowe appreciates the difference.] I'll fight for humanity no matter the odds.

[He ducks his head before entering the car. This is all rather overwhelming, but at least he has somewhere to go.]

Thank you, sir!

[It's an honor to have Commander Smith's esteem. He'd wish that he'd joined the Survey Corps in the first place, but if he had, he wouldn't have been able to provide them with the same advantage.]

[Erwin got into the driver's side, he figured that Marlowe could get his bearings at their residence before returning to his own. Since he had pledged himself to the Survey Corps, Erwin has no intention of ditching him on the streets.]

Why did you join the Military Police, Private? [He asked thoughtfully once they were on the way to the house. He remembered when Nile had made the choice to choose the Military Police and having a family over the Survey Corps all those years ago so there was some curiosity.]

[Marlowe answers this question without hesitation, turning away from the window to glance at Erwin.]

I'd heard about the corruption in the Military Police--who hasn't? And it's sickening, to think that the interests of the people are served by those who only care about themselves. I determined that the best way to combat that corruption would be from within. Who else could have the ability, the necessary influence, to clear out the trash from the ranks?

[He frowns, angered by the thought of the scum holding people's lives and livelihoods in their hands. It's disgusting.]

In retrospect, perhaps I should have joined the Survey Corps. The system may be too corrupt to salvage as I believed I could.
