TEST DRIVE MEME
Considering apping into MASK OR MENACE? Want to dip your toes into the setting and get a feel of whether your character will fit into it? Or maybe you're just cruising and want to play around? Then you've come to the right place!
Pick any of the following scenarios below or feel free to make up your own, but don't be afraid to throw yourself at anyone's thread, either!
And remember to have fun!01. Your memory is hazy and you might feel increasingly frustrated or anxious, or maybe you're excited as soldiers march past, barely glimpsing you. One second you're somewhere underground, the next you're enveloped in blue light, and suddenly you find yourself directly under Flordia sun's bright and burning glare. A female soldier steps toward you with a wide smile on her face and directs you to a car, ready to debrief you. You realize you are not the only one, surrounded by equally confused or eager faces... and you're all sporting a digital tattoo on your wrist.
02. Welcome to Cape Canaveral, where the smell of the ocean is in the air and locals are more than pleased to see new imPorts roaming their streets. They wave, they cheer, they ask for pictures as politely as they can. The more inhuman you look, or if you're wearing a costume, the more likely locals are to approach. Hey, enjoy the moment! The popular malt shop is offering you a free drink if you need it.
03. The technology in this world is certainly something. The cars are clearly modeled after popular 50s cars, but they hover several feet above the ground as they drive down the street. There are digital jukeboxes in restaurants, motorcycles also hover through traffic, advertisements can be seen on a digital projector on the taller buildings. Even kids on skateboards appear to drift a safe ten feet off the ground while playing!
04. Wherever you are, you can hear the loud revving of an engine, distance at first before you finally see it: a hovercar bursting around the corner, going beyond the maximum speed limit and just barely making its sharp turn. It doesn't appear to be slowing down any time soon, not with two police cars trailing it... and uh oh. Those skateboarding kids don't have much time to get out of the way as the car comes speeding down the road. You've been brought here for a reason Hero — so you better act fast.

[You are a strange man, Ferris. Rei looks positively scandalized.]
How can you be so calm about this? I have to find someone who can help me. The... Japanese embassy.
[That's all the way in D.C, though, how will he ever get there. Maybe he can thumb it.]
no subject
( seriously, they could have sold them off or something.
he isn't complaining mostly because he dealt with the fact that this is out of his control and there is nothing he can do about. so no reason to worry at all, right? )
I'm calm because well...well I can't really say. Maybe I'm okay with being taken from my home and brought here. I'm certainly chill with getting powers, that's for sure.
I just kind of wish they'd let me bring a few things.
( woah wait what-
ferris moved in front of rei and then he held his hands out. )
Calm down, calm down. You don't want to do anything stupid here, trust me. I've done some stupid things too and you will never live it down.
So how about this, you calm down with a beer and then we can think of how to solve our little situation, how about it?

Finally, with a long-suffering sigh, he gives in.]
Alright. I'll go with you, but I'm not drinking anything.
[He's going to stay adamant about that one. It's against the law!]
no subject
( he may or may not end up convincing him to drink.
he holds out his hand towards the other with a sly grin on his face. )
Name's Ferris Bueller by the way, and I'd be more than happy to show you a good time.
no subject
He shakes Ferris' hand.]
Rei Ryuugazaki. It's... nice to meet you.
[He's not sure if it's really that nice or not.]
no subject
So, what kind of powers did the gov stick you with?
no subject
But the question throws him a little. He remembers Ferris mentioning "powers" at one point, but he was busy worrying about being kidnapped.
He had a copy of his file shoved in his backpack, but for once in his life he hadn't read the material given to him.]
I... don't know. I'm not sure if it's even real. How can you just give someone powers? It's scientifically impossible.
no subject
( whether he wanted to prove to him they were real or he just wanted to show off his dumb powers, was unknown.
either way before rei knew it, ferris was floating right in front of him. )
Check it out, cool huh?
no subject
[Rei jumps back a little from the suddenly floating Ferris, unable to believe his eyes. This is like something out of a movie or a television show.]
Th-this should be impossible. How is this possible?
no subject
Because....I am God.
( he remained like that for a moment before he broke out in laughter. he spun around on his back. )
I'm telling you, powers.
no subject
He doesn't know why he thought Ferris was being serious for half a second. After his initial surprise, he gives a little huff through his nose before pulling his backpack off his shoulders.]
Does that mean I have them too? They gave me this file... here it is.
[He pulls it out, and for the first time looks past the details of his family and life to the part listed "powers."]
Wha-
[The first says "Super speed." That seems straight forward enough.
The second one, though...
"Flight, butterfly wings."
Does that mean what he thinks it means?]
But, wouldn't I have noticed if I could do these things?
no subject
he settled back down onto the ground as he watched rei pull forth a file. he curiously peeks over before looking up at his new friend. )
Butterfly wings? Ouch, tough luck.
( he clearly didn't win the power lottery like ferris did. )
Not really, I mean I don't see any wings on you. Try imaging yourself as a butterfly.
no subject
[It's true he likes butterflies, maybe, but actually picturing himself as one is difficult. He doesn't play pretend like a child, after all.
But, he tries. He shuts his eyes, then furrows his brow, then grits his teeth from the strength of his imagining!
...
Nope, nothing.]
I don't think it's working.
