I'm not always the best at positive things, or... being friends with people, really, but I don't have the energy to force myself into tolerating anyone. Maybe that's not much consolation, but, when I dislike someone, it is very obvious. And guys like that always deserve to be disliked, anyway.

I think that's most of them. I almost feel a little bad for them, but then again, the people with the most blind self-assurance are the ones most likely to drive themselves to ruin, anyway.

If they had the wisdom to learn from other people in the first place, I wouldn't have any targets at all.

They have to find something to occupy their time, once they're bound up and paralyzed by their own failures. The comfort of the familiar, and of blaming their problems on everyone else... that's pretty average, for this type.

So, that guy won't realize it until someone spells it out, but... now you have me curious. You know me well enough to recognize me?

But if you hardly know me, the same is probably true in reverse. Well. I'll still appreciate the praise of someone with a keen eye, then. We don't always have very many of those.

Or perhaps we're less inclined to reveal ourselves. Those of us who know how easy it can be to give away more information than we want to others with keen eyes.

Less inclined to broadcast our secrets at the first opportunity than our mysterious new arrival, at least.

A fair point. And there are those who carry more secrets than most — and by then, picking and choosing which to reveal is an ordeal, all its own. Then again, the hounds for attention are no good at ceasing their barking, and are more than willing to make up secrets for the benefit of having some noise to make.

I think we both know how to keep the things that matter close to the chest. But, perhaps next time, I'll be the one who recognizes you.
