DON'T MESS WITH ME AND MY SQUAD

Considering apping into MASK OR MENACE? Want to dip your toes into the setting and get a feel of whether your character will fit into it? Or maybe you're just cruising and want to play around? Then you've come to the right place!

Pick any of the following scenarios below or feel free to make up your own, but don't be afraid to throw yourself at someone else's thread, either!

And remember there's only one rule in Test Drive Meme Club: HAVE FUN ON THE TEST DRIVE MEME!

01.The city of Heropa is what one might expect from a small, bright and cheery place, where locals are friendly enough and local shop owners might offer a free drink to welcome you to their fair city.

ImPorts who have been around for a while might notice something a little different this spring. Suddenly, April Fool's Day is the biggest holiday of the season. What's more, locals are acting as if this has always been the case! Could it be an after-effect of last year's dimensional difficulties? Whatever the case, locals are excitedly sharing ideas for this year's fooling, the Live Time channel is running commercials for its annual movie marathon, and the April Fool's Parade is sure to attract big crowds!

The city of Heropa is debuting a brand-new local mascot for the holiday: Jack Inna Box! For the week leading up to April 1, the costumed character will be wandering around downtown Heropa, taking pictures with locals and inviting them to share their best jokes. As part of his civic duty, he's making a point to meet as many new imPorts as possible — including you!

    02. De Chima, Virginia, is a large city with a healthy economy, with large numbers of citizens waiting to be awed by your very presence. Look at you! Organic wonder! Synthetic wonder! Whatever you might be, those words have meaning here. Science and technology are the lifeblood of this city, so you're likely to come across a good many locals taking your picture with the newest of devices or recently published PLoS papers. The imPort craze remains high here, and you may find yourself cornered by overzealous imPort fans, media wannabes and opportunists alike, shoving cameras in your face.

Today in De Chima, there's the unveiling of a brand new invention in the convention centre park! With a simple scan, it will print out your Closest Love Match of the other individuals present, along with your percentage of compatibility and a free coupon to get lunch with your new date if you match 90% or higher!

A little odd that it seems that nearly every couple has 90% or higher, isn't it? What's the probability that the scanner is broken?

    03. Maurtia Falls, Pennsylvania has carried a reputation for ups and downs ever since imPorts began reappearing again, just those few years prior. Several imPort heroes have put focused efforts into cleaning up the streets of this somewhat infamous city, while a handful of others had swooped in to help the criminal industry thrive. More so here than the streets of any other imPort city, the battle between good and evil looks more like a war of escalation than a heroic tale. Everything from the classic bank heist to brutal bloodbaths can happen around the corner. You have to keep your eyes open and your mind sharp when you live in Maurtia Falls, and hostility against imPorts can spike. The emergence of locals with superpowers is hardly helping...

Despite the lack of gratitude that's in it for you, you may want to step in once you see a very, very sad supervillain wandering Maurtia Falls' streets. Dressed in a cape that appears to be a large swath of fabric purchased from a nearby sewing store, galaxy-themed leggings and no shirt is a man who runs right into your vicinity before striking a pose and yelling, "Everyone, stop before me and my wrath! I am Mister Mars, and provided you give me what I ask for, nobody needs to get hurt!"

At which point Mister Mars snatches an old woman's purse, loudly laughs in her face, and begins to float upwards. By the time he reaches the height of the tallest building in the area, he's beginning to look slightly panicked as he fails to really be able to move anywhere but up. Meanwhile, the old woman has begun shaking her cane at him and screaming quite an assortment of alarming expletives.

Maybe you should help one or the other out? If not, just lean back and enjoy the show.

    04. Nonah, North Carolina, is the liveliest of all cities; loud, busy and there's always some kind of energy in the air that gets everyone buzzing with excitement.

Today there's a big lemonade stand on one busy sidewalk, staffed by a group of industrious kids. Aww, isn't it sweet? Wait...is that a cookie stand a little ways down, also run by elementary-to-middle schoolers? Heck, the entire block is full of kid-run mini-businesses — a gathering of pint-sized entrepreneurs! And they have their eyes on you, hero, because as a celebrity imPort, your pockets are full of $$$, right?

    05. Jeopardy, Nevada by all rights shouldn't exist. A glowing neon city smack in the middle of the desert, the only reason it's still here is that the central nuclear power plant has tapped half a mile down into a subterranean lake for its water supply. So though the desert around it may be barren, the occupants of this small city are happily self sufficient. Those weird figures you see out of the corner of your eyes? Don't worry too much. Probably just weird radiation after effects. Jeopardy has a lot of those.

April Fool's Day is a big holiday in Jeopardy, too, but an extremely solemn one. All congregants at the Church of the Ancient Web Mistress give up all forms of jokes and comedy for a week in recognition of the way fate spins laughter to brighten the world but, like spiderwebs, it can also be fleeting. If you'd like to know more, the locals are glad to share their pamphlets and invite you to coffee hour. It's okay to enjoy it (just don't smile too widely).

[Izuku has been handling the whole "suddenly on a different Earth" situation...functionally well. He's certainly falling into his usual traps, overthinking the worst possible scenarios to death and generally being low-key anxious about every not-quite-right thing. After all, it's not every day he experiences...trans-dimensional accidental kidnapping? Sure let's go with that. On the other hand, though, he's a hard kid to shake when it comes to weirdness. So barring the times where his over-active thoughts are in control, he's been remarkably good at just rolling with the madness.

And then suddenly All Might is here.]

A-All Might?

[All Might is in this park with him. In Muscle Mode. In a different world. In Muscle Mode. Being the Symbol of Peace again.

IN MUSCLE MODE.

Sup good sir your very in-costume successor is now forcing his way through the crowd with intent. He's not exactly freaking out, he just...has no idea how to process this. His brain's already been working overtime just dealing with the whole "other world" thing and "also All Might is here and DOING AN IMPOSSIBLE THING" is enough to push it over the edge. He's bluescreening a bit here.]

I-I don't mean to interrupt but could I talk to you for a bit? It's very urgent.

[CAN'T STAY MUST HAVE SECRET QUIRK TALK SORRY CITIZENS PLEASE EXCUSE]

[All Might freezes when he hears Midoriya's voice and sees the kid pushing toward him. Of course... of course the possibility that other people from his world would also crossover had been there, and of course he'd been too distracted and had overlooked it.

There was also the matter of One For All. Midoriya had seen his powers fail. Had been there when Toshinori himself had passed the torch on, had acknowledged his time was over and the next generation would have to bear the burden of being heroes.

And so he turns to the crowd, his winning smile still fixed on his face, putting his arm around Midoriya's shoulders.]

Not at all, Midoriya, my student. You all don't mind, do you? Plenty of time for Love Matching as soon as we catch up.

[As he speaks, he gently steers Midoriya away from the crowd, who are all making noises of disappointment, and he says in a low voice:]

We do have a lot to talk about, kid. Let's get away from here as quick as we can.

[He simply nods in reply, partly to help ensure they're not overheard and partly because he doesn't know what to say. Or more accurately, he's got a lot of thoughts slamming into each other at high speed at the moment, but not a lot in the way of comprehensible sentences to put them in. Probably a good thing, given his whole "thinking out loud" problem - the last thing either of them need is for the mumbling to kick in in public while One For All thoughts are happening.

Izuku stays quiet until they get somewhere that seems secluded enough, doing his level best to appear calm and focused. (He mostly just looks somewhere between intentionally blank faced and deer-in-the-headlights, but he's trying) The second it seems like they're in the clear, though, he whirls around and drops the facade. Now he's officially freaking out.]

You're here! [Okay, not actually the topic he wanted, give him a sec.] You're here and you're-- you look-- you have-- how are you--

[And this is the point where he just gives up on words entirely. There is just so much to process about this, and so many possibilities and explanations and impossibilities, that even when he knows where to start Izuku doesn't know where to start starting. He ends up just gesturing frantically up and down at All Might and going with the only real coherent thought he has.]

What is going on?!

[All Might lets Midoriya work up the courage to speak, knowing it's got to be a pretty big shock for the kid. Hell, it'd been a shock for him to have One For All back, even in the limited fashion it was; he'd had to come to terms with his power being gone after it being a part of him for so long, had grieved that and come to terms with that. But he had to keep smiling for the public, too, had to at least try and get right back to saving people.]

I'm sorry that this happened, kid... that you had to just bump into me like this.

[He sighs, and at that moment his powers decide to run out for the time being- so now he is Toshinori again, the man who's just a shell of his heroic self.]

...That's better. This place... changed my Quirk. From what I understand, everyone here is given a Quirk when they arrive, and if you already have one, it doesn't necessarily work the same way. I have One For All, but it's not really One For All, not the way you and I know it. Sometimes my whole body changes. Sometimes just parts of it. But I had to try and use it for good, no matter what.

That's...that's not...

[Oh. Oh god. All Might actually does have One For All. This place did something impossible.

(He's just going to take the part of his brain screaming about his own paperwork and shove it into a box, because he's already got enough things pinballing around in there at the moment and he can deal with this very only-his-problem at the future date of Preferably Never.)

Seeing his idol suddenly return to...to normal again after all this almost hurts. This place gave him his Quirk back, but didn't heal him. It gave him his Quirk back and then broke it. All Might can be a hero again, but with even more complications than before.]

That's not fair.

[The hug isn't really a conscious choice. One moment they're standing apart, and the next his arms are already around the man's torso. He can't even say why it happened, beyond just feeling necessary. Needed.

Whether by All Might or himself is a question he's not examining too hard at the moment.]
onederfulhero: (normal - hug)

[personal profile] onederfulhero 2020-03-31 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
[All Might's surprised by the hug, but he realizes, once he puts his arms around Midoriya in reply, that he kind of needed this. The Symbol of Peace isn't supposed to be vulnerable, of course. But he's had a long life, then he'd been faced with a semi-retirement he was so sure he wasn't going to have, because Sir Nighteye's Quirk was never wrong, and Sir Nighteye had seen him meeting a gruesome death.

But it doesn't have to be that way here. He can still work to shape his fate with his own hands.]

No, it's not fair. I could say something like "life's just that way"... but it's not fair, and we both need to just... say that. I'd started to come to terms with my Quirk being gone except for the last dregs, and now it's back, and not even reliable. It's a bad hand to be dealt, even if I want to make the best of it.
