TEST DRIVE MEME

Considering apping into MASK OR MENACE? Want to dip your toes into the setting and get a feel of whether your character will fit into it? Or maybe you're just cruising and want to play around? Then you've come to the right place!

Pick any of the following scenarios below or feel free to make up your own, but don't be afraid to throw yourself at anyone's thread, either!

01. Your memory is hazy and you might feel increasingly frustrated or anxious, or maybe you're excited as soldiers march past, barely glimpsing you. One second you're somewhere underground, the next you're enveloped in blue light, and suddenly you find yourself directly under Flordia sun's bright and burning glare. A female soldier steps toward you with a wide smile on her face and directs you to a car, ready to debrief you. You realize you are not the only one, surrounded by equally confused or eager faces... and you're all sporting a digital tattoo on your wrist.

02. Welcome to Cape Canaveral, where the smell of the ocean is in the air and locals are more than pleased to see new imPorts roaming their streets. They wave, they cheer, they ask for pictures as politely as they can. The more inhuman you look, or if you're wearing a costume, the more likely locals are to approach. Hey, enjoy the moment! The popular malt shop is offering you a free drink if you need it.

03. The technology in this world is certainly something. The cars are clearly modeled after popular 50s cars, but they hover several feet above the ground as they drive down the street. There are digital jukeboxes in restaurants, motorcycles also hover through traffic, advertisements can be seen on a digital projector on the taller buildings. Even kids on skateboards appear to drift a safe ten feet off the ground while playing!

04. Wherever you are, you can hear the loud revving of an engine, distance at first before you finally see it: a hovercar bursting around the corner, going beyond the maximum speed limit and just barely making its sharp turn. It doesn't appear to be slowing down any time soon, not with two police cars trailing it... and uh oh. Those skateboarding kids don't have much time to get out of the way as the car comes speeding down the road. You've been brought here for a reason Hero — so you better act fast.

It's like I don't even know you, M'gann.

[She kind of approved; it was her turn to hold back laughter.]

[ Oh but she's grinning just as much, almost cackling just for the thought of it. ]

Maybe I just keep my mischievous side to myself so I don't give people the wrong impression.

[ You know. Apart from keeping everything else about herself to herself. ]

[Secrets had played a huge part of the development of the Team. Even when Zatanna joined...when they went up against Klarion...it had been the one secret she kept from them (her intentions regarding the Helemet) that had ultimately led to her losing her father. So she continued to believe. Then there had been Artemis' entire life and family criminal history...Conner's "donor parents'...M'gann's relationship to Queen Bee and her own true nature...]

[Needless to say, Zatanna had had enough of secrets to last her a long while to come.]

So which impression do you think is the 'right' one?

[ That's ... an interesting question to come back with. ]

I suppose... This one. [ And With a shift, her skin bleeds green, clothing staying as it were. ] Just ... M'gann.

[For all her quips and jokes and plots against her dear friends and teammates...she did have her moments.]

That's a good impression. I like it.

[ But oh, Zee, look how she's beaming now. ]

Me too.

[That's better. M'gann was also more herself when she was borderline peppy-cheerful. All she needed was a pair of pompoms.]

So, up for a bit of exploring?

I mean, if our mystery kidnappers went through all this trouble of bringing us here without asking, we might as well.

[ Don't tempt her. ]

Sounds good to me. This place doesn't seem like your usual kidnapping-exit, but I don't suppose some investigating would hurt.

Air or street view?

[Meaning should they walk, or would she prefer to fly?]

[...actually, Zatanna would rather travel by motorcycle, but since that wasn't an option at the moment, she would have to make do.]

Air would be preferable. Maybe just to get away from the crowds?

[ Normally she wouldn't mind walking. Or even flying along side a bike-riding Zee. But needs must, at this point. ]

I take it they've been giving you a lot of unwanted attention?

[For her part, Zatanna went by relatively unnoticed. She had abilities, sure. By some standards, she was even powerful. But she looked baseline human.]

Uh- A little. I think it's the green. And the clothes.

[ Hence the dusty pink 'civvies' she's so fond of. Forgo the cape, had been the first thought. ]

Surprisingly, no.

I'm not sure if I should be grateful or take offense.

[ eheh ]

Well... You don't look like an alien. And you don't really have a cape. We could get you one. And a mask; I'm sure they'd start noticing you, then!

Now that's ironic.

Usually people put one on because they want to stay hidden.

You'd like to think. It just sort of makes you more mysterious.

... And sometimes the mask doesn't really do much, in my opinion. You've got to block out the eyes or most of the face before you can't recognize someone.

[ I MEAN LET'S BE HONEST, NOW. ]

[She smirked as she cast a quick spell to levitate herself into the air. Slow, so M'gann could keep up.]

Should we break the news to Wally, or wait for him to figure it out on his own?

[ You say that like she couldn't keep up. Although, with her range of telepathy feeling like she's got a wet blanket on her head, the flight thing could have been fussed with, too.

Either way, she takes to the air a moment after, ready to follow wherever. ]

Mm, I say let him live with it. See if someone else figures it out first. He's a big boy.

[She laughed, openly, and unabashedly. Speeding up bit by bit as the seconds passed.]
