TEST DRIVE MEME

Considering apping into MASK OR MENACE? Want to dip your toes into the setting and get a feel of whether your character will fit into it? Or maybe you're just cruising and want to play around? Then you've come to the right place!

01. Your memory is hazy and you might feel increasingly frustrated or anxious, or maybe you're excited as soldiers march past, barely glimpsing you. One second you're somewhere underground, the next you're enveloped in blue light, and suddenly you find yourself directly under Flordia sun's bright and burning glare. A female soldier steps toward you with a wide smile on her face and directs you to a car, ready to debrief you. You realize you are not the only one, surrounded by equally confused or eager faces... and you're all sporting a digital tattoo on your wrist.

02. Welcome to Cape Canaveral, where the smell of the ocean is in the air and locals are more than pleased to see new imPorts roaming their streets. They wave, they cheer, they ask for pictures as politely as they can. The more inhuman you look, or if you're wearing a costume, the more likely locals are to approach. Hey, enjoy the moment! The popular malt shop is offering you a free drink if you need it.

03. The technology in this world is certainly something. The cars are clearly modeled after popular 50s cars, but they hover several feet above the ground as they drive down the street. There are digital jukeboxes in restaurants, motorcycles also hover through traffic, advertisements can be seen on a digital projector on the taller buildings. Even kids on skateboards appear to drift a safe ten feet off the ground while playing!

04. Wherever you are, you can hear the loud revving of an engine, distance at first before you finally see it: a hovercar bursting around the corner, going beyond the maximum speed limit and just barely making its sharp turn. It doesn't appear to be slowing down any time soon, not with two police cars trailing it... and uh oh. Those skateboarding kids don't have much time to get out of the way as the car comes speeding down the road. You've been brought here for a reason Hero — so you better act fast.

Now he frowns so Zatanna will be able to tell how serious he is.]

No, it isn't. Robin and Kid have been here even longer than I have. [Time is funny.] Apparently no one in charge around here seems to care about time.

[Please tell her you didn't name it Gator.]

We were up on the Watchtower. I'm almost ninety percent certain I didn't dream all that.

[No, Alli. Which...isn't that much better honestly.]

I'm not sure how it works exactly.

[Wait. What?]

The Watchtower? [Why would they be there?] Another thing about this place and time is that it can take us from any point. The last thing I remember is Thanksgiving.

[Conner, please.]

Thanksgiving?

No, it was...New Years... [You could see the gears turning.] Except you wouldn't know about that because you've been here. And back home. At the same time. Somehow.

I think I'm getting a headache.

[At least it's slightly better than Wolf?]

As it turns out, you forget being here when they send you back to the same moment they take you from. Probably best to not think about it.

[Alli is a cute name, even if it is uncreative.]

[He knows the place pretty well by now.]

[No, really, she's never heard of it before. Also, the thought of Conner having a job was...still not the strangest thing she'd heard all day, but pretty up there.]

Down by the beach. Umm...it's on the same street as that one malt shop, if that helps?

It's the name of the city.

[But it really isn't all that important right now.]

I know where that is. Be there in a few minutes.

[A few minutes is right since it only takes a few huge leaps to cross the city to her location. He makes sure to land far enough away that sand doesn't spray her then crosses the distance.]

[She looked up from her makeshift seat in the sand just in time to catch Conner walking towards her. Despite wearing the shades, she still made a point of lifting up one hand to block the direct sunlight shining on her face.]

They really need to think about new names around here.

[Pausing to stand, she brushed away at some of the sand still clinging to her capris and tank top.]

Hey, Conner.

That's not even the half of it.

[This world didn't have cities they were used to having, like Happy Harbor or Gotham.]

Hey, glad to see you're okay. [He gives her a faint smile.]

Never better.

Though, I have to admit, whoever these people are, they suck at kidnapping. You guys should give them a few pointers.

[She took a few steps closer, almost tempted to give Conner a hug in greeting. They weren't quite as close as she was with some of the others, but he was still her Teammate, roommate, and friend.]

I got to talk to Wally and Robin a little while ago. And I ran into M'gann not too long after that.

With as many times as we've been locked up or rescued kidnapped people, I think we could definitely toss around some pointers.

[Though he doesn't think everyone needs them considering it took them a couple of days to find Wally and Artemis. Hugging doesn't happen a lot with Conner but he will lay a hand on her shoulder - what she does with it is her move now.]

Yeah, they been here longer than I have but M'gann just showed up.

[That was...friendly of him. Not that she minded, of course, and she even responded with the slightest bump against his upper arm, followed by a quick squeeze of the fingers. Subtle. Particularly for her. But it got the message across.]

[Glad to see you too]

Do you know how much they remember? Because you mentioned something before about Thanksgiving, and I'd really rather not be the one to accidentally mess up the space-time continuum with too many spoilers.

[The team is pretty much on their own here. Sure Batman's here but he isn't the Batman they know - or that even really knows them. It's important now more than it ever has been to stick together.]

Robin is from early December and Kid's from one of our missions in Bialya. Though I'm pretty sure that you don't have worry about spoilers considering Wally's cousin from the distant future is here. Apparently he time-traveled to six years in our future and joined the team. He is the worst secret-keeper when it comes to telling us stuff. He tries though.

[Which means none of them would remember New Years. Damn. All in all, she supposed, it could be worse. They all seemed to remember her...]

Which Bialya mission?

[Because, from what she had been told, there had been two.]

[Um...yeah. About that.]

The first one. He barely remembers Artemis and the only reason he knows you is because...you were here for a little while.

[That's not hard to hear, right?]

[Umm...?]

No, I wasn't.

Yeah, you were. For almost month. You showed up the same month I did and disappeared after about three weeks.

[Trust him, Robin isn't wrong about people disappearing.]

[The fact that this was Conner telling her this...he wasn't the kind to joke. Not with that expression.]

I don't...remember being here before. And this really seems like the kind of place you don't forget easily.

Are you sure it was me?

[He usually leaves the jokes to Wally and Robin anyway.]

I'm not sure how we forget this place but it seems like that we can.

[Nods.]

Yeah. I'm definitely sure. [They might not be as close as others are but he knows.]

Great. We can add possible amnesia to the list of cons.

I have to say, so far? Worst vacation ever.

Yeah, sorry about that.

[But it's better that she hears it from someone she trusts than from strangers who knew her.]

Maybe some dinner will help. My treat. [Motions back to the town.]

[After a pause, she shrugged. It wasn't his fault, and she wasn't about to blame him.]
