TEST DRIVE MEME

Considering apping into MASK OR MENACE? Want to dip your toes into the setting and get a feel of whether your character will fit into it? Or maybe you're just cruising and want to play around? Then you've come to the right place!

Pick any of the following scenarios below or feel free to make up your own, but don't be afraid to throw yourself at anyone's thread, either!

01. Your memory is hazy and you might feel increasingly frustrated or anxious, or maybe you're excited as soldiers march past, barely glimpsing you. One second you're somewhere underground, the next you're enveloped in blue light, and suddenly you find yourself directly under Flordia sun's bright and burning glare. A female soldier steps toward you with a wide smile on her face and directs you to a car, ready to debrief you. You realize you are not the only one, surrounded by equally confused or eager faces... and you're all sporting a digital tattoo on your wrist.

02. Welcome to Cape Canaveral, where the smell of the ocean is in the air and locals are more than pleased to see new imPorts roaming their streets. They wave, they cheer, they ask for pictures as politely as they can. The more inhuman you look, or if you're wearing a costume, the more likely locals are to approach. Hey, enjoy the moment! The popular malt shop is offering you a free drink if you need it.

03. The technology in this world is certainly something. The cars are clearly modeled after popular 50s cars, but they hover several feet above the ground as they drive down the street. There are digital jukeboxes in restaurants, motorcycles also hover through traffic, advertisements can be seen on a digital projector on the taller buildings. Even kids on skateboards appear to drift a safe ten feet off the ground while playing!

04. Wherever you are, you can hear the loud revving of an engine, distance at first before you finally see it: a hovercar bursting around the corner, going beyond the maximum speed limit and just barely making its sharp turn. It doesn't appear to be slowing down any time soon, not with two police cars trailing it... and uh oh. Those skateboarding kids don't have much time to get out of the way as the car comes speeding down the road. You've been brought here for a reason Hero — so you better act fast.

[ Most Kryptonians probably aren't prone to touching, but Jor and his wife had always been particularly strange for their kind. It was perhaps only that strangeness that allowed Kal to be spirited away from the planet's destruction.

He nods at the question. ]

The last thing I remember before arriving here was- [ Lara. Holding Lara. A deafening roar as the planet shattered all around them. Heat.

He blinked slowly, steeling away the pain behind his intellect as he had not done in a long while. ]

The planet's final moments. [ He took a small breath. ]

Kent... That is the name your father received upon his arrival? [ It seemed only natural, that Kal would receive a new name and that this young man was his son. What other possibility, short of the miraculous events he dealt with now and then, was there? ]

[Probably a good thing considering how their son lives his life on Earth. He helps to protect the whole world from being destroyed and gets along with the people.

Though Conner hasn't had any of that.]

That's... [He doesn't know what to say to that.] I'm sorry.

[It doesn't seem like it's enough, like it would ever be enough. He rubs the back of his neck awkwardly.] It's not right, bringing you here like that.

It's my name. I don't get along with my father. [What he doesn't know is that M'gann chose the name on purpose - well, the last name anyway.] I mean, we haven't really spoken a lot since I came into his life so I don't know a lot about him.

[ Jor gives the closest he ever does to a shrug. He knows that for right now, the situation is out of his control, but he'll probably end up consumed by a desire to find out why him and not Lara. It's clear that in some world at least, Kal makes it safely away from the destruction. It gives him hope, whatever little he might have; the odds are not insurmountable.

At the mention that Conner doesn't get along with his father, though... He frowns. There are clearly things he doesn't know yet here. What might lead Kal to behave like that toward his own flesh and blood? Jor knows he can't judge til he has all the details, but that won't stop him from this: ]

I hope you know that I'll do whatever I can for you. [ He reached for Conner's shoulder once more. ]

You are an El as far as I am concerned, Conner. [ And perhaps Jor was desperate to not be so alone in this world. ]

[His version of Superman isn't the only one to survive, he knows that. The one that Power Girl knows is still alive. Maybe not now Lara isn't here but she could show up one day in this place. It seems to like having Kryptonians around.

And gets along with his 'son' in that world too. It might happen for him too one day but right now Superboy rarely gets to talk to his biological donor.]

Thanks. [He musters a smile.] I'll help when you need it. I don't know much about Krypton but I've lived on a version of Earth to know some things. Like how to put back the engine.

[To be an El without the other man knowing the circumstance behind his 'birth' is...Conner doesn't even know how to describe the feelings.] Superman has a cousin here. I can introduce you to her.

[ Jor nods once, his smile warming, and at the mention of the engine, he lets out a faint laugh. His gaze turns momentarily back to the car and for a second, he can imagine Lara scolding him gently for doing such a thing. If this short interaction is any indication, Conner will likely keep him in line as well. ]

I would appreciate tha- [ The mention of a cousin gets him to pause and blink. A female cousin- Does that mean...? ]

Kara is here?

[Don't worry, he's got the urge to take things apart but Superboy also knows when to not do it. They'll go to the junkyard and pay a guy to tinker around inside the engine of a car.

She never told him anything but her secret ID so all he can do is assume.]

Yeah, I guess so. She might not be from the same universe as you so...but she does know her universe's Superman pretty well.
