Will's been here long enough that things that should be surprising aren't so surprising anymore, like freaking robots with puggles and a roommate that didn't want to get doggie love so she just like turned intangible or some shit so you know he thinks Jayden is pretty much a teenage boy with all those issues but if he turns out to one day be like "yeah and then the government used me as a lethal weapon because my shitty dad told them I can turn into a helicopter with loaded guns and so I did and then I SHOT HIM ON ACCIDENT fukkin grief look my helicopter form is p. cool tho" he wouldn't be surprised but he's not expecting it. Like everyone has their little dark spots but he's suspecting when Jayden's come out they aren't on full blown "am I watching a modern Twilight Zone what the fuck"—and he likes/dislikes that. He likes that he's someone who can be related to and dislikes that this place is dragging in people who don't get this shit (like him!!!!). So it's like "hey this is someone who's familiar go me WAIT THAT SUCKS FOR HIM brb watching his every conversation" because look Chilton realizes that having Will sniff out your every thing ever isn't actually a bad thing why can't you Jayden huh why can't you. And as much as he's not a fan of the "BUT WHAT'S THE WORST CASE U EVER SAW THING" he doesn't get that back where he's from and having to really deal with it is an experience that he's not as ready to complain about when it comes from Jayden as he might be with some others.

...... but beyond that, yeah i think Jayden also appreciates that Will is another schmuck, not a superhero. a weird schmuck, with a job out of a crime show (haha stop being meta Jayden), but being from a world where it isn't commonplace that people can fly and shoot lasers out their eyes is comforting. Easier to relate to. ALSO SORRY FOR THE WORST CASE QUESTION HE WAS JUST CURIOUS OKAY, HE'S A CURIOUS KID and asks all the wrong questions. ._.

okay so she's had a million jobs and everything and that's hella confusing but for someone who spent forever playing with dead bodies and learning how to work with them to be faced with ACTUAL BARBIE is such a huge mindfuck. She's all "oh yeah I was a surgeon" and he's just like sitting there going "BUT HOW DOES IT EVEN WORK" in amazement, scientific curiosity, and horror. Dude's had serial killers hiding under his bed and Barbie talking about melting eyes is TERRIFYING this doll is not family friendly!!! And yet you can't really ask that without it being rude and he assumes everyone in Barbie's world is made the same as her, anatomically speaking, so being like "WOW YOUR BODY IS HELLA WEIRD CAN YOU EXPLAIN IT" is not only "do u even talk to women bro" it's also a reminder of "haha you're the only one now you're all alone isn't that nice" and that's just not cool. So he's got a ton of questions that he won't ever ask and will instead substitute with others and just wonder from afar. How does surgery work can't you guys just snap your ball joint elbow thingies back in place, no there is no world where that is possible that's insane, I'm drawing a clock.
She's genuinely charming and seems to have a damn good whatever passes for a heart if she's being honest in all her answers, which means if Abigail starts hanging out with Barbie then she'll get absolutely no :| for it. And maybe Barbie will find herself with a bunch of free fresh fish if she ever wants it because he can do that much, okay. He can do that much.

Okay so Skye is kind of like his first "friend" here, by which I mean he caught her saying "he's a friend" to Jayden and was like OH NO THAT WORD IS A NO-NO WORD do you mean it what is this because his track record with friends is really shitty. It was a really weird moment for him because that word just doesn't get used in his direction and she did it after everything he told her, she was still like "yeah he's my bro" and it's been a source of mild confusion in both good and bad ways. Can he have friends is this a thing he can do what happened why is this scary and also kind of joyous Skye you don't know what you're getting into!!!!
So while he knows about his track record with friends or people he can at all relate to (he ends up totally letting them down in the worst ways or they end up dead as fuq), she's introduced him to the fact that, hey, dumbass, you're in a new world you can be something and someone a little different than what you used to, you can be sociable it's okay and he's (silently) grateful for it. Freddie dropping the whole "oh yeah that guy he's going to prison for really terrible shit" was a moment of NO not because oh wait the whole world can see it but because...well, how the fuck does he explain that to Skye even. He didn't want to seem like he was hiding it but really how does that even come in polite conversation. And he was fully prepared for her to be like "okay thanks for the explanation but bye buddy" and he would have accepted it of course but he still didn't want to lose her. He didn't, which was surprise and relief and insight (what goes on in your world Skye you're oddly okay with this excuse me as I snoop a bit), and he's grateful for that, too.
So Skye's a first in a lot of ways that continually leaves him conflicted but he can't really be bothered to mind it so much. He stalks a bunch of people on the Network for various reasons, but he doesn't do it with Skye because he feels he needs to keep on top of who she's talking to in case BAD THINGS happen because Skye might write with sparkly gel pens and could come across as ditzy/airhead/whatever else (she's always on her phone/computer gosh she must be just so oblivious to the world around her sort of thing), but Will knows that she's NOT someone to fuck with. Maybe she can't shoot laser beams out of her eyes or burn an entire acre to the ground with a snap of her fingers, but she's got it on lock. She's got her problems like everyone else but there's something about her that screams "I GOT THIS" which he does appreciate. She can freaking hack anything, he's sure if someone presented a physical threat she could end up, like, the Transformers movie where ~the Cube~ brought a Mountain Dew vending machine to life and it started taking people out with its can guns. The CR chart is accurate to that, Will fully believes the last person in this entire world that anyone should start shit with is Skye.
That's not the reason he keeps up with her, either, the idea that she's not to be messed with and thus he must strive to stay on her good side. She's genuinely interesting and interested and gives him a damn good reason to stuff whatever ice cream he feels like into his freezer without being judged—she doesn't do that either, which is also new and relieving, the not judging. She might judge his choice in font (and be so wonderfully smart about it, implying his students are afraid of him) or music or whatever but there's no judging him and so yes he will continue to quietly appreciate her continued existence in his life while acting like a grumbling old dinosaur who's tired of the kids on his lawn with their newfangled music things in the ears and lack of respect for nature and whatever else. While he makes up some terrifyingly fattening malt or milkshake or something because we do not count carbs or calories or anything else at Casa Bait Shop it's not people it's good eat whatever you want that's not people. Which is another thing he appreciates, too—thanks to Skye opening his eyes to the whole "u can friend bro" he now has a tiny little non-profit set up so if anyone stops by, he's got stuff to feed them.
And that is all Skye. Not him. That's all her and he does not mind it in any way. He'll help her with GED, give her something tangible, but she's given him a lot more than that. It's the least he can do at this point, okay. All hail the goddess.

Annie is not okay, but no one here is okay and few people really are okay. When they seem okay they are probably feeding you people, he'll realize. So Annie not being okay and also being kind of socially not so good earns her both brownie points and negative points because the problem with Annie, the reason that he gets hackles raised by people stealing her clothes and then Jayden sexting her, it's not that he doesn't think she's capable. She's smart and can turn into a giant she's got this. It's that she's got innocence to her and people have a habit of exploiting innocence in really awful ways.

Annie comes from somewhere that's not all right and she's got a brain, yes. But she's also from somewhere that doesn't have like plumbing and dogs and seals and shit, so there is some aspect to her that is innocent and someone could take advantage of that if they put their mind to it. Take advantage of her lack of schooling in what people like Will take as basics, as normal, and exploit her that way. And Special Investigator over here knows how fucking badly that can go. He also knows enough to get the vibe that Annie's not okay not just because her world is a mess or that she's a tiny little giant waiting to devour all the menz (misandry!!!), but because of the people. Not the people in her organization or people in general, but there was someone along the way who really really really really picked up a hot poker and stuck it in her brain and wriggled it all over and said "hahahahahahah this is great" she has been burned before by SOMEONE and the idea of that happening again is not something he can stomach. He can't stand the idea that someone might use Abigail, but Abigail has people here who can look for her and will look out for her, be it him or Freddie or well. She's taken care of, okay. She's got people on her side. But Annie, shit, it's like everyone from her world is either another Titan (and therefore a teenage boy and you know those guys are not the smartest) or someone who has every reason to not give a shit or worse than not give a shit, to encourage terrible things in her direction.
And that's worrisome.
She's interesting to talk to, he can relate to her, and that's part of the worrisome "who hurt you so bad" because they veer into territory often that makes him go "ahhhhh no no no no this can't happen again this shit just isn't okay" and he never expected it. He saw Chilton and Gideon being catty and joined in and what he got he did not expect but he does not regret. Not a second of it. He realizes he's off and not exactly the safest harbor as a person, but he can offer her a bait shop (brb installing a futon) and his own place if she ever feels she needs it, and he can keep himself open for questions about stuff in the world she doesn't understand along the lines of basics, but he'll constantly be aware that there is a way to manipulate that. He'll be aware of it and avoid doing it and do everything he can to make it so she never ends up going to the wrong corner for stuff like that as he sits there and knows he's not the best corner, either. But his corner doesn't burn shit to the ground because they did a
cynsin and told the world, so it could be worse. And yeah he's aware that by doing this odd, forever open invite no questions asked no judgment, he's doing his own sort of manipulation...but he's not going to do anything bad okay they're two not okay people in a not okay world but he's not going to make her less okay it's fine this is fineat least until she calls his ass out on it
