i apologize for breaking the cycle of cats

It's been a few months, and since I've seen a bunch of people working on their cr charts, it's time for...

THE TL;DR CR MEME

♥ post with your characters - if you have a lot, consider a catch-all/nested comments under one header
♥ respond to other people's characters with your characters
♥ they tell you in detail what their character thinks of your character, ic or ooc! tl;dr is encouraged.
♥ then you react if you want!
♥ other people do the same thing to you!
♥ BONUS: use this for your cr charts, or link them if you've already got them written up!
♥ flagrantly stolen from the last time we had one of these, which was in turn taken from others... just roll with it

Jesse, oh dear, Jesse. What can Joel say about Jesse.

So basically, Joel has currently reached this sort of conflicting point of view about Jesse. On one level, he can't stand the kid. He can't stand him because Ellie likes him, and he thinks that, while Jesse obviously knows what he's doing to a certain degree with the meth thing, Jesse is pretty clueless and has no idea how run his own business with any balls. Like, if Jesse was trying to do what he's doing back in Joel's world, he'd be dead in five minutes flat with the way he operates. That gets on Joel's nerves so much.

And then there's the whole thing where Ellie really likes Jesse and looks up to him, and Joel feels really quite threatened by that. He feels threatened by it because as much as he will attest until he's blue in the face that he is a survivor and he's had to do pretty horrendous things in the name of survival, he knows deep down somewhere underneath all of his bitterness and loathing for the world that he's a really shitty person. Jesse may be a pretty shitty person, too, and may have done some pretty shitty things, but he's nowhere near the level of shitty compared to the kinds of people back in Joel's world, and the fact that Jesse seems like a guy who actually has a good heart even if he's so easily and horribly misguided - well, Joel can see Ellie has gravitated towards that. Joel doesn't necessarily think that Ellie would leave Joel for Jesse but the way she looks up to Jesse and seems to see him as some kind of brotherly or even parental figure plays into Joel's massive worries of Ellie leaving him.

But there's this other point of view that Joel has been developing that Jesse seems pretty loyal. Now of course, Joel knows part of that loyalty has to do with wanting to keep the meth business underground, and Joel gets that completely. And he also knows that he can pretty much intimidate Jesse into doing almost anything if he really wanted to. But the point is, Jesse so far has always kept to his word and that is a pretty rare trait to find in people, as far as Joel is concerned. He also can't deny that if anything happened to Ellie or if Ellie needed protecting and Joel couldn't for whatever reason protect her himself, that Jesse would be the first person there to protect her. He can't hate Jesse for that particular factor, as much as he really dislikes him on almost every other factor.

That's not to say that Joel doesn't think Jesse doesn't have it in him to be a conniving little bitch or someone who could turn tail and run as fast as he could to save his own skin. You can bet if Jesse ever did that while Joel was in a jam and really needed help, Joel wouldn't hesitate to track Jesse down and exact his pound of flesh, so to speak. But if Joel got to know Jesse a little better and got to learn more about his past, particularly concerning Jesse's issues with his parents, I think that would resonate with Joel, partly because Jesse seems like such a kid to him in some ways.

Bottom line is, if Jesse was ever in a jam, Joel would help him out while also smacking him across the head repeatedly for being so stupid if Jesse was the cause for being in the jam (and maybe he'd smack him across the head repeatedly even if he wasn't). If he found out anyone threatened or tried to kill Jesse, he'd deal with it if he could see that taking action on Jesse's behalf would be necessary also while smacking Jesse across the head repeatedly.

The fact that Jesse has graduated from Joel hating Jesse to just immensely disliking Jesse means that Joel is starting to warm towards him. Slowly. Even if he feels very threatened by Ellie looking up to Jesse. Like I said, Joel has currently reached a strangely conflicted opinion of Jesse.
