aww yeah it's question meme time

Time to bring back one of my old faves...

the QUESTION meme

Simple and easy! Here's how it goes:

1. POST a top-level with your character name

2. REPLY to other people's top-level with a question for that character

3. ANSWER the question you were asked

4. ASK a question of that person's characters in return!

We go back and forth like this asking questions in a thread until one or both of us runs out of questions!

QUESTIONS CAN BE ANYTHING. Serious or silly as you want! What does Jane think of (x)? What does Sarah have for breakfast? How many times a day does Alex masturbate? What's Tom's dream job? The only limit for questions is your imagination.

Replies can be as monosyllabic or as tl;dr are you want; it's up to you. Go wild kids!

My response is colored by Aaron Paul's answer to this question: "Jesse would probably die of a heart attack in a zombie apocalypse. I think he would go out guns blazing, from all the practice he’s had in video games."

For real though, I think his plan would be to basically just to protect as many of his loved ones as he can before he has to make some heroic sacrifice that he is totally prepared to make.

He doesn't blame Joel and Ellie for, like, how they reacted when they first arrived. Because he knows he'd be pretty fucked up if he came from their world. But he is Super Concerned about things like why Joel was apparently trafficking a little girl and like how many people has Ellie killed, anyway? A lot of questions he wants to ask but doesn't really want to know the answers to. Things are better for them now so that's what matters.

What does Ellie think of Jesse's business?

Oh, baby... :( and yeah, I can totally see Jesse doing just that. Blows up self inside a mall full of zombies to save a bus full of children or something isbugiusbdg

Spoilers: he was trafficking her for guns!! And maybe a hundred or so... but she hasn't killed anyone in several months so hey, baby steps at being a normal teenager.

Good question! Ellie's so preoccupied with everything around her and the stuff that the money Joel gets from Jesse's business buys, that she doesn't really think about it much. Jesse is rich. Jesse gave Joel a job to do, which keeps Joel preoccupied and active, and therefore relatively content. The meth part of it? She's curious, but not enough so yet to look up anything about it. Any concept of drugs like meth is vague as hell, because who has that in her world?

I think if she saw what meth does to people she'd be upset, but Ellie is loyal as fuck sooooo she'd probably try to convince herself it's not really that terrible, what Jesse is doing :/

Otherwise she just kinda dislikes that it means Joel is away, but at the same time that means babysitting hanging out with Jesse without worrying about Joel getting grumpy, so she copes. Ellie has learned that money is awesome. Thanks, Jesse!!

How would Jesse explain why he does what he does to Ellie? Does he think she understands, currently?

Explaining why he does it would be simple enough. He hasn't explained it already only because he figures it's self-evident, really. But he'd tell her that money is power in worlds like these, and meth is the fastest way for him to make money... and the more money they have, the more independent they are. Eventually they won't need to rely on anyone else in the world for the rest of their lives, and wouldn't that be nice? No one could tell them what to do.

How is Ellie coping with the life of a regular kid?
vaccination: (headshot.)

[personal profile] vaccination 2014-10-15 09:44 am (UTC)(link)
You just have to step on people on the way there :'(

For the most part, she's coping pretty well. Ellie is adaptable and very open to learning. It's been jarring to see the reality of things she only read about, but she's had good teachers--the adults in her life have been teaching her sooooo much it makes her head spin, but she knows some patient teens like Wally who have been having fun introducing her to regular kid stuff, and Sasha who is also a bit out of her element. That helps a lot.

And school sucks. But she knew that before. And a lot of regular kid stuff is stupid and trivial but she knew that, too. Her patience for stuff like shopping for clothes or talking about teen drama is very limited because not too long ago every day was survival survival survival.

The hardest part has been socializing. She was never very outgoing before, more likely to start shit with someone than sit down with them and get to know them. Here, she has to force herself to relax. She's constantly on edge and hyper aware of her surroundings, though she does her best to not show it because she knows that's weird. No one else here starts sweating in the mall or has an urge to clutch at the knife in their pocket when someone is walking behind them on the sidewalk. She's not as nervous as she once was, but it's still a process of telling herself that she's not going to be attacked. Joel might seem a little crazy with the way he acts here, but Ellie's not much better. She's isn't as obvious.

What would Jesse do if Brock and Andrea appeared?

He would be really, really upset.

He'd tell them not to register and he'd get rid of their communicators and he'd buy them a house far from any of the Porter cities so that they'd never get mixed up in any of the shit the government or imPorts are getting into. And he would call once a week and maybe stop by every couple months to check on them and make sure they never wanted for anything.

And he would do his best to make sure no one knew they were there or that they have anything to do with him.

Will Ellie ever consider getting involved in their trade or will she always be content to just receive all this cash and not think about where it comes from?
vaccination: (flashlight.)

[personal profile] vaccination 2014-10-15 10:36 am (UTC)(link)
Eventually the honeymoon stage will come to an end. She's already like well, how come Joel is in on all of this and not me? Why can't she go with him whenever he's off working for Jesse? She and Joel are a team, and in her mind she should be by his side and have his back no matter what, even if it's just work. She's asked Joel before if she could tag along and he said no. Ellie was content to let it be, but there will come a time when she realizes working at an ice cream shop is lame and she can do more. But it's more about Joel than anything else.

And then maybe she'll make the puppydog eyes at Jesse and ask if there's something she can do. Preferably after getting Joel to crack because what is this drug business compared to infected. :')

What would Jesse's reaction be to Ellie asking to be involved?
hostage: (serious ☣)

[personal profile] hostage 2014-10-15 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
He would feel like basically the worst scum to ever walk this earth.

I mean, Ellie's going to grow up eventually but it's as if she's Jake or Brock - he's always going to see her as a little kid. And it doesn't matter to him that she's done way worse stuff than run a few pounds of meth across some state borders. She hasn't done bad stuff because of him, and that'd change if she got involved as a mule.

The whole point of this, for him, is to make sure that the people he cares about get to live comfortable lives without the threat of danger. As easy as things have gone for them so far, he knows this is a dangerous business and shit will hit the fan eventually. Ellie cannot be there when that happens. He'd never forgive himself.

And even the thought of using Ellie makes him feel like Gus, which sickens him. If he's that far gone, he might as well off himself now.

So that's a firm, "Hell no," and he'll cry if he has to.

What does Ellie really want to be when she grows up?
vaccination: (ask.)

[personal profile] vaccination 2014-10-15 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Ellie would push Jesse more than she pushes Joel because she knows he's nicer (AND WEAKER) but crying would stop her god fucking dammit. :'(

She used to want to be an astronaut! Which was probably just a random choice for a kid whose only options were military or some crappy job on the wall that would lead to a super early death. Also, for someone that is afraid of being alone, space is scary! She hasn't really given it much thought beyond that because being anything hasn't ever been a possibility. If she did, though, she'd probably want to be a doctor or librarian. She did rounds in the clinic at the military school and likes books. She's a simple girl.

Haha, Joel (while on his deathbed/insanely drunk) tells Jesse he's screwed over the rest of humanity just to keep Ellie alive. What does Jesse think?
hostage: (concerned ☣)

[personal profile] hostage 2014-10-15 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Jesse would absolutely 100% have made the same choice, so Joel gets a manly hug and a reassurance like, "You did good." Yeah. What the fuck is the point of humanity's survival, anyway, if it takes harvesting a little girl to make some cure that might not even work? That's not a world that deserves to go on. Ellie has to live, and either they find some other way to create a cure or they go quietly into extinction.

And he wouldn't have told Ellie the truth, either, if it was him.

What will Ellie do if/when she finds out?
vaccination: (swear.)

[personal profile] vaccination 2014-10-15 10:35 pm (UTC)(link)
She'd need some time away from Joel. She'd be angry and hurt that he kept such a thing from her for so along, not to mention taking away what came to be her purpose in life and a way to "make up" for the people she feel died because of her. Word of god says her tiny little okay at the end isn't Ellie accepting the lie. "It’s Ellie waking up for the first time, waking up and realizing she can’t rely on him anymore. While she loves him for what he’s done for her, she hates him for robbing her of that choice. She knows that she has to leave him and make her own decisions and mistakes."

WHICH BREAKS MY HEART but I'd definitely play it as that. It definitely wouldn't be the end of Ellie and Joel, as she does love him more than anyone else and probably could put herself in his shoes and understand why he did what he did--he loves her, too. He couldn't give her up after losing Sarah. Buuuuut the trust between them would be gone. It would take a lot of time for her to want to open up to him again. and then Jesse becomes the new favorite dad

What does Jesse think of the government in the game?
hostage: (damaged ☣)

[personal profile] hostage 2014-10-15 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Jesse isn't very politically-minded, so the government's reasoning goes in one ear and out the other. In his opinion, the government should be worshiping the ground imPorts walk on. Not only are imPorts taking the whole kidnapping thing extremely well, but they're even willing to help out when natives are in trouble. That should be huge. They should be handsomely rewarded for that. But not just the registered imPorts. If people get compensated for car accidents, then imPorts deserve compensation for being dragged here. It's that fucking simple, in his eyes. Anything less is an insult, and especially their policy of kicking the unregistered imPorts out onto the street.

But Jesse has never been one to trust the government in general. Back home, he never voted. He outright loathed federal agencies and law enforcement. If he had a mind to put a name to it, he'd be an anarchist or a libertarian. So the government could be angelic and he'd still be inclined to distrust them. He doesn't like the idea of some giant entity having that much power over people, deciding what's best for them when it doesn't know them on a personal level. That's why he's all about independence, being self-sufficient. When he's acting as a leader, he sees himself as a leader who actually has his people's best interests at heart. Because, when it comes to imPorts and his employees, he honestly does.

He just doesn't see that in a government that so far has only sought to use them as tools. He fully expects them to resort to using force to get the imPorts to cooperate, maybe eventually exterminating them. He hopes to have built enough resources to fight the government by then, militia-style.

What is Ellie's D&D alignment? I'm curious about her moral compass.

I'm actually not too sure... Chaotic good? Ellie ultimately is a good person with a good heart, and even though she's driven by guilt she does want to be the cure for the infection. However, if anyone fucks with her or someone she cares about, she would not think twice about killing them. If it's either you or them, you have no choice and that's how Ellie views all the blood on her hands. She has no issues with stealing or telling lies--anything to get by is acceptable.

What's Jesse's?
hostage: (retreating ☣)

[personal profile] hostage 2014-10-16 09:16 am (UTC)(link)
Deeeeeefinitely Chaotic Good. I've seen people sort him into Chaotic Neutral but that leaves me going "?????" I mean, maybe - maybe - once upon a time, at the very beginning of canon, but... Unquestionably Chaotic Good now. Because he has such a strong conscience and a clearly defined personal moral code, even if it doesn't jive with society's. And he doesn't roll with that "every man for himself" attitude. He likes taking care of people and helping out. He's interested in making things better for others, not for himself. But he does bristle at authority and adhere to his own sense of justice rather than anyone else's.

Now I want to know... What would be Ellie's RPG class? Maybe out of any of these. Or which would she pick for herself?

She's definitely a bow and blade ranger. She claimed to be good with a bow being trusted with one, and proved to be a great shot with a rifle. She's just naturally gifted with aim :') and Ellie is a pro at stabbing men to death. She's too small and weak to take anyone head on without taking a big risk, so bows from a distance and knives in the back. If she could choose, though, she would want to be a knight or paladin. Someone strong.

How about Jesse?

[personal profile] hostage 2014-10-17 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
Back home, he'd definitely be in the Rogue class. Here, probably more Cleric. Rogue Cleric. (How is there not a combination of these classes? Am I forgetting something?) Anyway, he's obviously better at sneaky activities than outright offense, because his strength is fucking shit but his dexterity is okay and he has high charisma. But now that he has superpowers, he's best in a support role as the party's main healer + stat booster. And it's seriously best to keep him out of any fighter role. There's got to be someone better suited to it than him. He has only successfully assassinated someone once.

If he could choose, he'd be a Ninja or a Monk. Those guys always look really fucking cool. Plus he "knows" kung fu and shuriken techniques. He would strongly argue for this role and be really disappointed if he was made Cleric instead.

NERDS THE FUCK OUT.
