Kaneki Ken || Tokyo Ghoul

However, in a recent (still on going) log, Kaneki is going to find out the "power nullifiers" only go as far as suppressing his kagune/inhuman strength/resilience/agility/etc. His hunger isn't suppressed; actually, not even his kakugan is suppressed, and certainly not his bud tastes which still only crave for human flesh. Basically, he is still biologically a half ghoul and he can't change that. He can suppress everything that would make him dangerous, but he can't suppress anything else.
So he is fucked.
He still hates being a ghoul, he still hates having to eat human flesh (of course) and he is still dead scared he is going to flip out and bite a friend in the neck. In MoM, however, he is A LOT MORE scared than back in his world because he is the only ghoul here and can you imagine what a clusterfuck would be if people found out he eats humans for breakfast? Yeah, in his world ghouls exist, but here it wouldn't cross anyone's mind that your friendly neighbor Ken has a really screwed up diet. And he certainly doesn't want to be the one explaining that because he isn't even a natural ghoul to beguin with.
Tl;dr being Kaneki is suffering and he hates his powers more than before

ANYWAY. Kaneki's favorite would probably be Stephen King! Mystery with horror are always a favorite, and of the collection "It" would be the one he'd probably love the most since it involves fears and phobias.
Question about Elsa! Without a canon update, is it possible for her to ever accept her powers?

Without her sister, I think it would be mostly impossible. A big part of Elsa's problem is that she can't forgive herself, and until that happens it's pretty impossible for her to truly control her powers. She might get good at them, but there will still be hiccups.
For Kaneki, does he think his powers would be at all useful for helping citizens, or does the whole "eating people" thing pretty much kill that idea?

LOLOLOLOLOLOL, and that the two CAN be together even knowing what each is and what each does. Touka has made it clear if anyone found out, that person had to die in order to protect ghouls and those unknowing humans that mean so much to them, but even after the Gourmet Arc, Touka realized it's not so black and white and Kaneki saw the pair as something that could work as an example for both Ghouls and Humans.HOWEVER EVERYTHING IS PAIN AND IT HURTS.
In MoM Kaneki is the only ghoul around. NO ONE knows what a ghoul is and implies and no one truly understands just HOW AWFUL a world with ghouls can be. In a way it's good because explaining it to someone willing to listen will maybe sound too unrealistic and not so, you know, TERRIFYING because they didn't live it, but at the same time Kaneki is put in a position where he was to explain to people "OH BTW I EAT HUMANS".
It's simply something that Kaneki can't even understand well enough, much less trying to explain someone what a ghoul is and what it entails. He has no idea how the hell he can ever explain this. He has no idea how it'll be seen and understood. All he has is the government and the military acting like it's nothing and giving him dead bodies so he won't starve.
For him to open up it'll take A LOT. And it'll take an understanding of his situation far greater than just "oh sure, there are things that eat people in your world" because it's not just that. And Kaneki knows if he approaches this the wrong way, he will spiral down into a huge clusterfuck he won't be able to get out and he doesn't want that. ever.
tl;dr - maybe he will, but Kaneki needs to sort out his own thoughts first and needs a more solid ground to do that.
Question about Annie! If she was given the chance to return to her world or to stay here (forever and ever and ever), what would she chose?

(i just have a moment where i laugh and go it's sad that in the knee jerk reaction of "oh shit" annie would also have the part of her brain that goes "at least that is sensible; there is a give and take here that isn't simply destruction and death for the sake of death" but that's because the titan eatings literally accomplish nothing other than to be horrific and to kill people who are then... not used for anything. they are just dead.)
OKAY right now she'd............ god I don't know. it'd be easy to say stay here forever, but i don't know how tight her bond is to her dad to maybe make her take her chances... but realistically, from her present canon point, stay. As far as she knows she has NOTHING good coming to her back home regardless of who's in power, and until canon gives me stuff to work with if it ever touches on annie again in a meaningful way, it means... that's all she knows. and what's that uncertainty in a place where she'd been told all her life she was only meant to achieve a mission objective and be hated by the world at large, versus anything here?
she'll take this fucked up world over the last one, all regrets included. it would not be an easy decision. not at all.

AND YEAH aot the canon still hasn't given us anything about titan-shifters exactly. why how when pero porque yeaaahhh. IT'S OK ANNIE, STAY IN THIS WORLD IT'S BETTER THAN BEING ENCASED IN CRYSTAL.
ANSWER: OK regarding canon update which is the easiest part to answer, I first want to give kaneki solid foundations in MoM. Shironeki (white haired kaneki yeaah fandom and their cute names) is not all right there, you know? He is unstable, even if he is still so fucking cute you want to punch his cute face, but that normalcy he shows is because he has a group to support himself on. If Shironeki shows up in MoM without anything and anyone to lean on, he'd just go kakuja on someone's ass and that can't happen; he needs to have support in game before i canon update him past that dreaded canon point. I ALSO NEED TO PICK A CANON POINT which is. wow. I don't know if you reached the end of the manga, but everything is pain and physically hurts you is basically the last few chapters and even I am wary to canon update him that far - and look, I'm a person who loves torturing her characters, and still I can't do it. In any case, Ken needs to settle down first, grow some roots and when he returns as Shironeki, clawing at his face screaming "I'm so fucked up, I will protect everyone", he needs something or someone that would settle him the fuck down.
AS FOR HIS NATURE. For now, while Kaneki isn't Shironeki, I'm leaning towards a no. kaneki's character growth goes from "you are monsters" to "i am a ghoul", so he does find a balance and his hair turns white because of it. But he is from a world that KNOWS ghouls. Again, MoM doesn't. MoM doesn't know what's like to go on a date with a cute girl and she turns out to have four tentacles on her back and tries to eat you. MoM doesn't know what it's like to have people turned into suitcases because they happen to be ghouls and have an interesting predatory organ. MoM doesn't know what's like to hear that "Ghouls aren't human, so it's okay to kill them" or what's like to have a special headquarters for teenagers that were kidnapped and used as toys by ghouls since they were 6. And MoM doesn't know what's like to have a purple haired male ghoul screaming "FORTISSIMO" as he sniffs your blood (oh Tsukiyama...)
It's a very different world, and it's a very different mentality. So he can't balance his dual nature because he doesn't have that dual world to balance him. he needs it, as much as he is scared of it. How can he say he wants to be a ghoul when there are no ghouls? In this situation, all he wants is to be normal, he doesn't want to be the only one who is like this. And it'll be incredibly hard for him to accept it like that. he REALLY needs to go "shounen hero mode" for it to happen.

no i love this rambling okay i don't get to discuss tokyo ghoul with anyone so this is me sitting chin handsing. now i'm not sure if i've read through everything, last i recall was like... chapter... 142? but either way it has been suffering and heartache and just no. gods no all the time. :( everything you're saying makes sense and i do agree is important for him to have, even if all the cast ported in right now, simply because mom is a different and shifting setting, and this is no world of ghouls, or any accountability for the cultural divides and necessities his world has in place. or fails to have.
okay to the QUESTION annie probably regrets eren most, more than anyone else. i feel she had a lot more of a... hmm, specific allocation of intent and feeling she gave to armin? but armin already knew. he didn't want to know or accept what he'd figured out, but he was the one who did, who proposed the plan, who annie went along with to her own capture/trap, and she knew the whole damn time.
but i feel eren was the one in the end who pained her most, and that was even like. before she was lead to the trap. back when she thought he'd died, that shock was genuine, and the way she was after trost, eren being the unexpected titan shifter she'd trained with for years had a different impact on annie and just... look, she's listened to him yell about killing all titans for years. then he's the one there, having to take her down and in, and he's still so damn oblivious he never sees the cost of lives in his actions (i guarantee no one has pointed out to eren that his actions and lack of care taken in executing them killed people in stohess, look at the church dammit).
inversely, i think she had a higher regard for armin in ways, especially when he's just a normal dude who has stuck by his values and fought for his friends and his suddenly monstrous friend and he just, scared, he just still is there, so that also sucked? but i feel like her feelings toward armin were very quiet and mystifying for her anyway. which yes, means i do read that as a one sided crush, and i freely admit that is how i interpret that part of canon. and that i do think there is some regard for eren, who is also an idiot hahaha but. you know. details.
but yeah, in the end i think it's eren who pained her more. at least with armin she had some sense of being able to give him some "good" part of herself right before the curtain was pulled up. eren's like betraying a puppy cerberus, he just will not understand, and she can't explain it to him.
though on a slightly related note, there's probably some feeling for betraying an expectation of her father's in both getting out of there or completing the mission that touched down as being painful, but the relief of not needing to keep up the charade was probably more powerful... and remembering her father(figure) being more of a regret/loss she's acknowledging before turning crystal princess.
QUESTION: if Kaneki ends up stuck here for longer term (thinking over a year) would his perspective on how to deal with MoMverse alter/what would his goals here be over the course of that time? Would there be much of a shift/change from immediate term plans to slightly longer term plans?

so you already saw the state kaneki is in 8D the last chapter is 143, and you might think the pain will stop then BUT YOU ARE WRONG. it never ends. until the last fucking page. And then the author started a sequel (Tokyo Ghoul: Re) and guess what IT'S JUST AS EQUALLY PAINFUL. never. ending. pain.
ANSWER: yes, definitively. Right now his goal is to be normal. Normalcy is good, normalcy allows him to feel human, which is something he REALLY wants. So he'll work, go to the library, go to dance classes, make friends, spar here and there. All very normal. However, I see him getting more involved with MoM's setting, specifically government's secrets and heroes and secret organizations, as he goes. Very much like how he started to do with Rize. It'll probably take a push, but after that push he won't stop. An usually getting involved means starting to be less skittish about his powers too, so it's something i really want to happen eventually.
QUESTION: SINCE YOU MENTIONED it, how is Annie's crush on him currently, then? As in, how does she deal (if she does) with it, considering MoM's environment, and the fact the cast is civilized enough not to attempt murder and they might interact? AND SINCE I'M GOING THAT WAY MIGHT AS WELL DO A SHIPPY QUESTION, even if she doesn't admit to it, would there be someone she feels closer to/has a crush on/maybe/idk what this is, here in game? Does she even consider such things now that she isn't just a weapon to go on a mission.

ANSWER: Oh stars her crush on armin is so heavily buried and sacrificed on the alter of "did i fucking make things worse" from early months here in game that it ain't never coming back again. with armin having done some of the actions he has here in game, like beating up a civilian at school to the point of him needing hospitalization for stitches and getting armin expelled, to armin lying about it to eren about it, to armin being outright manipulative at reiner and the like, she has no... trust... or faith in him, kind of wonders where the person she admired went? for a long time she thought their homeworld broke him finally, but now she more thinks it was the contrast between their world and here didn't settle well for him, and stuff like that. she did make her version of efforts to interface before - now she goes out of her way to avoid armin, and i honestly don't see that changing anytime in the future. he's been shallow, he's made threats, he's now been a bully and unapologetic for it, she's not comfortable with that person and can't do anything to help him other than stay away (again reflecting on thinking she can only be a bad part of that influence on him, kind of a "why the hell does annie get to be here and free and not xyz from home?" which isn't great logic, but good irrational logic on her part).
so yeah, no chance of anything other than sort of bittersweet memories she still doesn't regret from back home when it comes to armin.
so then there's the subject of how she relates to people in game and i should probably start out by pointing out how she held herself back from everyone in canon, that doing anything other than that is FREAKING WEIRD for her, and she is someone who does get emotionally invested... and makes no deal about it. if you call her out on it, she'll admit it, but she's subtle in how she wears her heart, and she's... shy... and more... young in aspects of interpersonal relationships. there's actually a decent amount of that like - light, borderline crush sort of feeling that never goes anywhere? and isn't meant to, it's just how she's relating "i like and am allowed to like people and that's different" with any sort of positive/fond emotion. like what people can sometimes run into during middle school, where none of it is actual romantic interest in people, it's just translating fondness into an internal dialog she can digest.
on any actually shippy note, yes, i think she does/could/might, but it's all very... unrecognized on her part in any conscious sense. she doesn't think she's good for people. she repeatedly points this out. she points this out to friends of friends. and to "feel closer to" for her means having her whole confession be something known. no budging on that. so like... then it moves forward from there, and people who honestly struggle with the shit she's done are more attractive because they aren't able to swallow it down without question. if you have enough of a moral compass that you go "shit that's wrong" she finds that attractive rotfl so she's kind of screwed from the outset since the people she is/does/would crush on are all the ones who she also is like "can't happen" because... she is who she is. but past how she self-sabotages on that level, too, annie would really only be able to move forward with someone willing to a) call her on her shit b) be called on their shit by her c) opting to share parts of their history/thoughts/beliefs without her having to pull them out of them, since she's not... the person who interrogates without a very specific purpose. like some kind of give and take that's willing, not demanded, or one sided. which i think can happen, just who the hell wants to. be laden. with annie...
as far as considering such things, she does, in that loose way that doesn't mean much. she's more or less told kanaya that such things are nice, to think you can find those connections or bits of clarity in this impermanent, chaotic world, but she's self aware enough to know that she's a) got a lot of issues, the extent of which she probably doesn't even know and b) she'll be dealing with a lot of heartache should she ever walk down that path. (it's just kind of sad because she would. heartache's her expectation, but maybe she can glean some happiness along the way, too, even if part of her will stand by and say it isn't deserved.)
her making friends is enough of a STOP THE PRESSES, so she's content with that, and would not, due to all the above and her perceptions of herself as being not a great person and the like, be the initiator. she just can't be. she couldn't force herself on anyone like that, and it'd read that way in her head. #kids these days
though i laugh since i think past all the early awkwardnesses and the fact she'd really not be okay with PDA she'd be a fairly physically affectionate person in private, making up for a lack of it in other areas of her life, in a sort of... i want to say undemanding way? too much respect for personal space, paired with a desire to be close, lots of internal compromise on her part, and compromise with whoever else would be involved. which is all just theoretical zone SUCH IS LIFE
though i feel i should say those microcrushes are on ladies and gents so i get routinely amused

ANSWER: AHAHAHAHAHhahahahahahaha.........ahahaa...... ah. ah LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT THAT TIME when kaneki still wasn't a ghoul and he was a happy (... not so much but, he was happier at least) kid. before the whole Rize fiasco, we know Kaneki never went on a date before. He is a 18 years old virgin who never went as far as asking someone on a date, but he was healthy enough to have crushes on people and notice Rize's cleavage while they were out on their super romantic book-store date. Kaneki was, in fact, the sort of quiet person who relied on books and much of his vision - at least that's my headcanon - towards what romance was meant to be was this ideal. You know, something he dreamed of, the perfect person. Kaneki was then not familiar with it, but had that dream of having it. Like a normal nerdy kid, c'mon, we all know the stereotype.
Rize fit the bill, yes she did. Rize was EVERYTHING Kaneki idealized and their date went exactly the way kaneki dreamed of. PERFECTION. Then she turned out to be a hungry ghoul, out for Kaneki's flesh and I guess that ruined everything. You see, all of this happened because boy saw girl, boy got a crush on girl, boy and girl go on a date, girl tries to eat boy's guts, girl gets crushed. The verdict about his first date? Fucking terrible. You can take a wild guess what Kaneki thought of dating from that point on.
Joking aside, it's very difficult in Kaneki's situation to have a relationship because he is not right. Kaneki is not even able to steady himself in the crazy that is his own life, much less include someone in said life that he absolutely has no control over so far. He'd end up hurting the other person SO MUCH and because Kaneki follows his mother's words, he becomes the one that is hurting instead of the one that hurts. In other words? Kaneki absolutely ignores that he was once a healthy 18 years old idealistic virgin who dreamed of book-store dates and forgot that part in his life. It's such a confusing and complicated situation, that Ken simply has no way of thinking about such things. Any kind of desire other than "I want to live a good life" and "I want the people I care about to live a good life", are suppressed, forgotten and pushed aside, for anything involving intimacy is currently... hidden. He even forgot he has once wanted something like this, in fact.
Also, it's really hard for him to realize whatever crush he might get on someone. because he is focused on his own situation and he is so focused on caring for others, that it goes right over his head. I do accept, agree and support that kaneki had a crush on Touka, but like he showed all through the manga, he never acted upon it and I don't think it was just about keeping Touka away to protect her or because he was an hybrid. I think he never acted upon it because Kaneki never realized he had a crush on her since there was just so much already happening and "protecting others" didn't include "hit on them" - love/romance/crushes/relationships are basically forever buried. he doesn't remember he can have it.
After all the shit he went through, romance is hardly something he'd think of, honestly. Even in heropa, while he is still building roots, he still won't remember about it because he will always assume he just can't since he isn't right. in MoM more than ever since in his world Ghoul/Human relationships do exist; but here? Yeah, how to tell your lover you eat human flesh? That would probably lead the human to think Kaneki wants to eat them at each kiss )8

ANSWER: She doesn't know what she'll find, but ultimately she's looking to understand if there's any way to really... stay... or not go home. Look, right now no future seems to be there, it is easier to... not be there. She wants to understand the politics that were happening in the past, she wants to suss out what the future is really like, and if the Porter gets manipulatable, can she like. Fuck off to anywhere that isn't her own world. Maybe. Again I don't know maybe she loves her dad too much or something would make her go back, she's groomed for certain things since childhood, but as it is, she wants to know what the actual happenings are here in the past and present to see where it is they're all headed.
Which isn't as convincing an answer it's more her getting better depth to her understanding of the relevant situation.

ANSWER: nooot really! A pet is a big responsibility and ken is at a bad place in life and would probably be unfit to take care of one. besides, while I highly doubt kaneki dislikes animals, he also doesn't show that crazy love for them
like the way i love animals basically, seen with Loser (the parrot). Given Kaneki's life, I think he just never had much contact with pets before, and he just grew to be pretty neutral towards them. he doesn't hate animals, he will save an animal and he will take care of one if asked of him, but he also won't try to get one nor does he ever had the need to. If he ever gets a pet, it'll be purely by accident (in other words, it can totally happen!)QUESTION: What's up with the dancing classes, REALLY. Why does Annie want to learn how to dance?
