aww yeah it's question meme time

Time to bring back one of my old faves...

the QUESTION meme

Simple and easy! Here's how it goes:

1. POST a top-level with your character name

2. REPLY to other people's top-level with a question for that character

3. ANSWER the question you were asked

4. ASK a question of that person's characters in return!

We go back and forth like this asking questions in a thread until one or both of us runs out of questions!

QUESTIONS CAN BE ANYTHING. Serious or silly as you want! What does Jane think of (x)? What does Sarah have for breakfast? How many times a day does Alex masturbate? What's Tom's dream job? The only limit for questions is your imagination.

Replies can be as monosyllabic or as tl;dr are you want; it's up to you. Go wild kids!

i don't even know okay

it just happened and i rolled with it and love it--

OKAY SO- in Persona 3, Shinjiro's initial equipment is "Wool peacoat" "beanie" and "cowboy boots." and it's so goddamned ridiculous to me and I love it. (But seriously he's always wearing cowboy boots in canon i don't even know.) So you have this jackass homeless japanese teenager with western boots and--

Honestly? His Persona is Castor of the Dioscuri, the younger twin to Pollux (which is Akihiko's Persona.) While Pollux was an accomplished boxer, Castor was a reknowned horseman, and I assume that they entire thing is a throwback to that. REALLY, that's been my own (secondary)reasoning as well- during the summer games plot, during camp, he learned some basic horseback riding because why not, in august Akihiko bought him a new pair of bitchin' boots-- AND THEN WESTERN MOVIE NIGHT HAPPENED AND IT JUST KEEPS GOING AND GETTING MORE RIDICULOUS.

I like the idea of him really liking the whole motif of westerns- your whole LONE GUNMAN BRINGING ORDER TO PLACES because let's be real he's not really the greatest team player. Also they get to dress so cool, and shoot those old timey guns and ride horses- it's just a dumb boy thing, I feel.

JAYDEN y nawt westerns tho. that is to say- What's his guilty pleasure genre/whatever when it comes to movies or books or video games or whatever?

THIS IS PERFECT I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT IT. That makes perfect sense and I love that you've been building on a theme from canon and everything. IT'S GREAT.

ohhh man that is a good question. HMM. HMMMM. I kinda imagine sometimes he gets really high and watches daytime soap operas or kids shows or something. I'm not really sure Jayden has a dedicated guilty pleasure genre in anything though, per se. He's kinda shameless about what he likes. Back home he probably also found old Soviet propaganda videos on youtube and thought they were hilarious.... probably not so much now.

Follow up: What does Shinji like most and least about living in (a version of) America?

jayden clearly they need to get stoned sometime and watch telenovelas. NOT SPEAK ANY SPANISH, JUST MAKE IT UP AT THEY GO. It would be the perfect early afternoon.

Oh my god I mentioned it in another thread but he hates the transit system and how spread out everything is. Florida has like next to none, and I assume virginia is only slightly better because of the proximity to DC. (BUT I DOUBT IT BECAUSE GROWING UP IN THE SOUTH, RAILWAYS ARE JUST... NOT A THING OUTSIDE OF MAJOR CITIES FOR THE MOST PART?? maybe it's just tennessee but ehhhh) He can't drive so he's gotta get from his house to the De Chima base, through the porter to canaveral, then hop a bus to heropa or something and get to work, and do it all in reverse at the end of the day.

And some days there's an extra stop in Nonah for training with annie.

basically it's not convenient for him and EVERYTHING IS SO FAR APART??? Like why aren't there any readily accessible convenience stores by his house why does he have to go all the way to a big grocery store, fuck. he needs to learn to drive or something except that is a terrible idea.

GOOD THINGS uhh better movies. He likes american flicks, they're pretty good, even if he doesn't spend a lot of time watching any. And he likes how, for the most part, people give waaaay less fucks. It's less stressful in some ways. He also likes it because it's not the island where he accidentally killed someone but really anywhere will do for that one.

JAYDEN AGAIN: He mentioned before a better future involving a job, wife, etc- Is this where he sees himself going forward? Does he want to grow up and be a content everyman? What all aspirations does he have for the long-term, both before and after arriving in MoM-verse.

WOW SORRY FOR TAKING SO LONG TO RESPOND TO THIS. bUT HAHAHA OH POOR SHINJI and yes I think Jayden knows this feel too, being from Boston where public transit is way accessible if a bit frustrating at times. I imagine it's a lot more annoying in Florida even if Heropa is trying to be friendly to imPorts who show up (obviously) without a car, lmao. Jayden knows how to drive, he could teach you (no no don't he is a terrible driver that's a bad idea)

(also yes weed + spanish soaps must be a thing, let's do it)

Also WOW MAN YOU SURE DID ASK A REALLY SIGNIFICANT QUESTION PERTAINING TO JAYDEN AS A CHARACTER ON THE WHOLE LOLOL. Wow how to answer this. Let's see.

So like, he's an immigrant kid, and I think there's certain pressures placed on them that other American kids don't have necessarily. There was a lot of sacrifice on the part of his parents to bring him to the United States so he can have a better life, and he's pretty much expected to perform within certain parameters. He's watched his parents struggle with menial jobs because they don't have an American education (and his dad, for all his love of America, died of a heart attack rather young due to what Jayden does consider subconsciously to be an attempt to keep up with America's capitalism). So he's very focused on being something better... but he also never got to dream big like a lot of wealthier kids who were born here. He had to dream practically. So all of his future goals are reflections of that kind of mentality: his dad was an engineer back in Russia and that's basically the most esteemed job you can possibly have, by Soviet standards, it's kinda like saying you want to be a doctor or a lawyer here in America. So he wants that and the family thing is also very much a product of his upbringing, family is very important and on both sides of his heritage they lean toward a more traditional family structure, particularly the Chechen side. His mom is Chechen (an ethnic minority in southern Russia I WILL REFRAIN FROM MAKING THIS A RUSSIAN HISTORY LESSON I SWEAR) and it's like, still a thing sometimes to have arranged marriages so she's hinted at that and Jayden's been basically like OH GOD NO so I think his future goals kind of include trying to beat his mom to the punch so he doesn't have to marry someone he doesn't know.

That all being said, Jayden has certain future aspirations in that vein, but he also never really got a chance to consider much else, so it's very much a dream of necessity, not exactly fancy. Also, deep down inside, he suspects it won't be easy to achieve any of this, particularly the way the college education system is set up (he's looked at the figures and knows tuition is super expensive, even at a state school, by his family's standards), and he looking at a lot of student debt and.... well, I don't think he's thought through what being an engineer would be like, past it's what his dad did and it would be a lot of money and make his family proud of him. Would he actually be happy doing it? I'm not sure. I suspect he's not actually smart enough for it, to be completely honest.

...Also not to specifically hint at spoilers or anything, but Jayden came about as a character in my book series because I needed someone who had thrown his future away for a completely stupid and potentially evil reason. So. Uh. Yeah, TAKE ALL THIS FOR WHAT YOU WILL.

ETA: also to add a followup question in case you want to keep playing this game: what were/are Shinji's future aspirations? Because you know... those didn't really pan out in canon either. ;_;

JAYDEN awwwhhh. I'm glad that he's got such inner thoughts and feelings about that, hahaha- Poor bb.

AND HELL YEAH CONTINUING I AM JUST THE SLOWEST.

Though dang, that is another tough one. We don't know a whole lot about Shinjiro's early life other than He grew up in an orphanage, befriended Akihiko and Aki's little sister, the orphanage burned down and bbsis died, and at that point he started really scrapping together so that the closest thing he has to family can focus on doing what's gotta be done.

I imagine prior to the whole WHOOPS I ACCIDENTALLY YOUR MOM thing he probably didn't know himself. As much as I bitch about P3P at times (because I am a cranky lady obvs), there's a lot of nice little nuggets of info strewn about in conversation. Akihiko makes note that he used to have to track Shinjiro down when he was cutting class and would find him napping on the roof, for instance, which cracks me up.

I imagine he never cared too much about his future even before he gave up on living. Like it was entirely too distant, too far away-- because hey, he was a 15/16 year old kid when suddenly the heiress of a mega-corporation was like "Sup come fight monsters take this gun and shoot yourself." He probably assumed he'd get a job and do adult-y things, but I have a hard time imagining him having anything concrete.

of course he'd want to continue what he's always done in supporting Akihiko- and Mitsuru once he joined SEES. if that all hadn't gone to hell, he probably would have just seen where the ties with the Kirijo group would land him. if they end the Dark Hour, well, fine- if not, they maybe this Shadow hunting business will be full-time.

He probably imagined they'd be baller unsung heroes up until everything broke and he grew so disillusioned. Like sure, the Dark Hour is terrifying as hell, but with the three of them kicking ass, it was likely enthralling in its own way. Finally given a purpose and a direction, instead of just kicking about aimlessly as some punk unwanted street-trash orphan kid. I imagine he kind of hoped that it would be fulfilling and they'd be, as I said, heroes in their own right, because come on he was a 16 year old kid told he has special powers and can take out creepy monsters to save the innocent people of the city. Once you take away the nightmare fuel, it's like a dumb boy's fantasy.

And then we all know how that ended so welp.

JAYDEN - any ~romantic~ aspects? Crushes, likes, anti-likes, whatever. If not, is there a reason? Just not had time for it? What's going on in that department.
