aww yeah it's question meme time

Time to bring back one of my old faves...

the QUESTION meme

Simple and easy! Here's how it goes:

1. POST a top-level with your character name

2. REPLY to other people's top-level with a question for that character

3. ANSWER the question you were asked

4. ASK a question of that person's characters in return!

We go back and forth like this asking questions in a thread until one or both of us runs out of questions!

QUESTIONS CAN BE ANYTHING. Serious or silly as you want! What does Jane think of (x)? What does Sarah have for breakfast? How many times a day does Alex masturbate? What's Tom's dream job? The only limit for questions is your imagination.

Replies can be as monosyllabic or as tl;dr are you want; it's up to you. Go wild kids!

He hasn't entirely made up his mind yet about registration. On a personal level, he has few negative associations with the idea of people knowing who he is and what he can do, because that's been the reality of his life ever since the serum. Captain America is a public figure and always has been- hell, he started out as a propaganda tool. Plus, the consequences of deregistering don't seem all that bad, though it depends on who he asks. Having support for housing and a guaranteed job withdrawn just means that deregistered heroes are on the same level as citizen and that isn't something he can fault the government for. What he would fault them for is withdrawing that support if people can't otherwise get opportunities for housing or work on the market, if they're entirely dependent on the government support. That doesn't seem to be the case,* despite suggestions made by people, so he doesn't fault them for that.

On the other hand, there's the potential for abuse, the fact that separating one segment of the population from the rest and setting them apart rarely ends well, that imPorts have no say in the amount of information the government keeps on them, that they somehow gain entire medical histories and files, that the nanites are injected into everyone. Doing all that is Wrong and with the government failing to explain and be transparent about their reasoning on the matter, Steve is very wary.

So he might not have the same associations a lot of comic!people have regarding registration, but he's seen registration go wrong in Nazi Germany and he's been told a lot about registration in the 616 universe. For now, he's staying registered, but it's a careful balance and he's likely to either become a vocal advocate for the rights of deregistered while himself still registered if he thinks it's necessary to make himself heard, or he'll deregister and go vigilante on the government's ass. Both options are equally likely, to be honest, and he might end up doing one after the other. We'll see.

And to change the tone completely, tell me about Barnaby's love life.

* as far as I can tell, at least

Yeah, it's a complex issue, so it makes sense that he'd have mixed feelings about it. I'm interested to see which direction Steve ultimately decides to take! There seems like a lot of plotting potential either way.

And Barnaby's love life. LOL. LOL. He has lots of admirers and was canonically voted #1 on a "man you'd most like to sleep with" poll in his city, but has never actually been in a relationship with anyone before.

Apparently, he did like one woman during his Hero Academy days, but never pursued it because he was convinced it wouldn't go anywhere. (My headcanon is that she was one of the instructors.) Word of god says he's usually not interested in women, though, and he doesn't seem to be interested in dating in general. On the other hand, there's evidence to suggest that Barnaby may have feelings for his partner Kotetsu. The creators have said it's a valid interpretation, so that's the angle I'm running with.

Like his Hero Academy crush, though, he's sitting on his feelings and doesn't have any plans to confess. Rejection doesn't bother him, but he has no desire to make Kotetsu needlessly uncomfortable and potentially strain their relationship. There's also some guilt leftover from canonical events, along with serious doubt that he'd reciprocate since Kotetsu is 1) a single dad who clearly still loves his departed wife, 2) 11 years older than Barnaby, and 3) often oblivious to his own feelings as it is.

Thankfully, it doesn't cause him much angst since he's adopted an "it is what is it" attitude about it. But it also means he's not going to go falling for anyone else anytime soon, especially since he normally doesn't go looking for relationships anyway.

What's Steve's favorite childhood memory?

Yeah, it's very complex and his decision is going to have an impact either way, I suppose. Whiiiich means he'll have to be certain about whichever path he ends up taking.

Haha wow I'm glad I asked.

Steve's favourite childhood memory-- probably a toss-up between one of the many afternoons and evenings spent hanging out with Bucky, getting scraped knees and promising they'd be friends forever, and a hazy memory of waking up, knowing that the fever he thought might kill him this time has broken, his mom putting a hand on his forehead and telling him she loves him.

They both gained meaning as he lost his mom and Bucky respectively, and now he's clinging to them.

What's Barnaby's view on registration, actually?

Oh nooo, that's so cute and sad at the same time. :( I can totally see that, though!

Barnaby's views probably aren't too different from Steve's. Registration doesn't come with the same negative connotations as it does for other hero types. This is because heroes back home operated under government oversight, which held them accountable for their actions while in-uniform. For that reason, he really doesn't blame the government for wanting heroes to register. He also has no qualms with people knowing about his hero background, because he has no secret identity, and everyone back home knows who he is anyway.

On the other hand, even if the government technically isn't forcing registered imPorts to participate in their Cold War operations, Barnaby doesn't much care for the idea of pushing everyone into the "hero" role if they want government assistance. Naturally, he doesn't expect people to get something for nothing, but there are other ways they can contribute without aligning themselves with the military, as far as he's concerned. Their unwillingness to help new arrivals integrate into society unless they pledge allegiance to military is just a reminder that they're all really just being used.

Barnaby also remembers what it's like to be a total newbie to the hero world, including all the hiccups and mishaps that happened even with all of his extensive studies and training. He can only imagine the sort of trouble that might happen if a wannabe tries to apprehend a criminal without any prior experience. He's already had to abandon pursuit of a suspect in order to protect an imPort who froze when faced with the wrong side of a gun, and he'd rather not see that again if it can be helped.

Whether he stays registered or not partly hinges on his partner's actions. If Kotetsu decides to resign, and possibly go vigilante, there's a good chance Barnaby would follow suit. That said, Barnaby would probably try to convince Kotetsu to think really hard about his actions. This is because he believes it's better not to get on the government's bad side, and he thinks they'll be in a better position to advocate for change if they remain registered. In the end, though, he's not above leaving if the government winds up doing something so morally reprehensible that he doesn't want his name attached to it anymore.

If Steve could go back in time, what's one piece of advice he would give his younger self?

now excuse me while I go cry about Steve Rogers.

If Barnaby could only take five items (persons included) on an isolated island, what would he take?

Divide it up between different charities. One for orphaned kids, one for veterans, one for research into diseases — because he was lucky enough to be older when he lost his mother, but he knows what it's like to grow up without a father, what it's like to lose your parents. Because of his own experiences and Sam's work. Because of his mother's death. Respectively.

Does Barnaby ever jerk off I'm sorry I know I'm classy and all.

A PERFECTLY VALID QUESTION.

Anyway...the answer is, sometimes! Granted, he's legitimately like ??? when someone insinuates he has porn on his computer, so I don't think he keeps any fapping material or fantasizes that much. He probably sees it as a basic need, like scratching an itch.

What is the first thing Steve notices about someone? What sort of qualities does he like to find in other people?

Eyes, hair, accent. The way they hold themselves. And he likes people who'll stand up for what's right, call him on his shit, who're competent at whatever they do — he likes it, too, when people are happy with who they are and where they are in life.

(Maybe he's hoping some of it will rub off on him.)

What matters most to Barnaby in life?
