PARTY AT MOM'S HOUSE

TEST DRIVE MEME
Considering apping into MASK OR MENACE? Want to dip your toes into the setting and get a feel of whether your character will fit into it? Or maybe you're just cruising and want to play around? Then you've come to the right place!
Pick any of the following scenarios below or feel free to make up your own, but don't be afraid to throw yourself at anyone's thread, either!
And remember to have fun!01. Your memory is hazy and you might feel increasingly frustrated or anxious, or maybe you're excited as soldiers march past, barely glimpsing you. One second you're somewhere underground, the next you're enveloped in blue light, and suddenly you find yourself directly under Flordia sun's bright and burning glare. A female soldier steps toward you with a wide smile on her face and directs you to a car, ready to debrief you. You realize you are not the only one, surrounded by equally confused or eager faces... and you're all sporting a digital tattoo on your wrist.
02. Welcome to Cape Canaveral, where the smell of the ocean is in the air and locals are more than pleased to see new imPorts roaming their streets. They wave, they cheer, they ask for pictures as politely as they can. The more inhuman you look, or if you're wearing a costume, the more likely locals are to approach. Hey, enjoy the moment! The popular malt shop is offering you a free drink if you need it.
03. The technology in this world is certainly something. The cars are clearly modeled after popular 50s cars, but they hover several feet above the ground as they drive down the street. There are digital jukeboxes in restaurants, motorcycles also hover through traffic, advertisements can be seen on a digital projector on the taller buildings. Even kids on skateboards appear to drift a safe ten feet off the ground while playing!
04. Wherever you are, you can hear the loud revving of an engine, distance at first before you finally see it: a hovercar bursting around the corner, going beyond the maximum speed limit and just barely making its sharp turn. It doesn't appear to be slowing down any time soon, not with two police cars trailing it... and uh oh. Those skateboarding kids don't have much time to get out of the way as the car comes speeding down the road. You've been brought here for a reason Hero — so you better act fast.

kara | original character | 1 + 4
[The only thing keeping her from flipping her shit and hitting someone is that the woman in front of her is a) a woman, and b) a soldier. It's not that she thinks all soldiers are good people, if anyone knows that, she does, but she can get a feel for them in a way she can't for regular humans. The woman doesn't mean her any harm, which keeps her calm enough.
Which isn't to say she looks happy, but her posture is straight and she's focused in a way that seems out of place considering she'd looks as though she'd be more at home in an underground punk club than in the military.
Still, as soon as she's been briefed, she takes a chance to slip away rather than getting into the car. She's been to Florida before, but it's not one of her favourite places in the world, and she idly rubs at the tattoo on her wrist as she looks around.
A minute later, a raven flies over and settles on her shoulder, which is the first thing of this whole experience to make her smile, even as the bird fusses at her messy hair, trying to smooth it down.]
Stop that, you little shit.

[There's no time to plan her reaction; Kara sees the kids in the path of the car and springs forward, wings snapping out behind her (don't ask how she was keeping an eight foot wingspan hidden) to lift her a few feet off the ground and give her an extra burst of speed. Even then, she only just manages to get the kids in time; it's not particularly graceful, she just tackles them both out of the way of the vehicle, though she does at least slow down before hitting the ground, so it's more of a gentle tumble than a hard crash.
Which still results in an awkward pile of kids, limbs and Kara's wings, but at least no one's roadkill.]

It's been ages since he did any actual medical work, but he can recognize enough that everybody looks particularly fine. Beat up and scraped, but nothing's broken. Still, he feels it best to ask,]
Is everybody okay?
no subject
Everyone's in one piece, I think.
[There's subdued nods, and Kara gets to her feet to help both the kids up as well. Her wings settle back between her shoulders, disappearing once they're still, because it wouldn't do to be running around with those, even in a world that's a little more accepting of weird shit.]
But we're not gonna be playing on the road again, are we?
[She casts a glance at Curt in the universal sign for back me up on this one.]
no subject
She won't always be here to save you, you know. So be more careful. I'm sure your parents taught you to look both ways before you cross the street.
no subject
Alright, you two, why don't you head home and get someone to clean up those cuts and scrapes?
[Kara makes a face when one of them replies "yes ma'am" but then they're scampering off down the sidewalk.
She pushes her hair back from her face, then looks down at her knee, where there's a tear in her tights.
Nice.]
Thanks for that.
no subject
When he hears Kara's voice though, he turns around, nostalgic expression fading into one that's a bit more relaxed.] I'm a dad myself, so I know how to do parental scolding. [It's then that he notices the tear in her tights, and frowns.]
Are you alright?

He wanders over, still observing with a casual sort of coldness. ]
Is that bird giving you trouble? Florida is well renowned for its problems with animal control.

[The raven caws, amused, while Kara rolls her eyes at it]
She's fine. Just obnoxious.
[At least it's not a swan, those don't really match the theme she's got going on.]
no subject
You never know. For what they lack in teeth birds can make up in diseases.
Not that it seems of any concern. You're taking this well, at least.
no subject
You don't have to worry about it, this is just a thing with me.
[Horses, too, but they don't try to sit on her shoulder.]
The raven, or the rest of this crap?
no subject
[ Good icebreaker, though. ]
But it's less common to see someone take the arrival here in stride.

You wanna say hi? She'll behave.

[He hadn't heard of people coming in with their pets. It's obvious in his eyes that curiosity wants him to know what it's like to pet a raven.]

he emerges shortly, taking a few long, swaggering strides toward the scene.]
I take it no one's kicked the bucket yet. A few bruises, no doubt, but no mortal injuries. [he cocks a brow, but it's hard to tell if his expression mirrors the sentiment of his words.] Well done.
yesss
Still, she casts a glance up at Loki when he approaches.]
Wasn't really doing it for the approval.
[Even if something... itches, about this guy, an uncomfortable feeling between her shoulder blades.
It's been a long time since she's met any of her gods.]
no subject
["our," of course.
there's something interesting about her that keeps his attention focused. for the moment he finds himself just observing with enough casualness to say that it could be because of her actions and not the familiar feeling that was resonating off of her.
Loki certainly had something of a presence, a high density prone to sort of "bending" the reality around him. for some it was difficult to place, but he never hid that he was definitely not mortal, and definitely not one of Earth.]
no subject
So there's a four year old gently tugging at her feathers while she talks to Loki.]
Well, I don't. I'm not a hero.
[Maybe... a long time ago, when valkyries were revered, but these days people tend to be wary of her, as if she's just going to up and decide they should die.
More importantly, and a little rudely:]
What are you?
no subject
his brows quirk, amused at such an open-ended question.]
Also not a hero. Though others may disagree, er ... or agree, depending. [no, Loki was no hero, but his time with the Young Avengers was ... um, debatable.] We're measured in heroics by our actions, aren't we?
[he almost sounds a little bored, but light-hearted enough to be taken as somewhat sincere.]

Still, she walks towards Kara once the whole thing is done. ]
Okay everyone, keep walking.
[ There is a strange quality to her voice; everyone around her should be able to listen, and then, without a word, people simply kept going on about their business. She then turns to the scampering men that have crawled out of the car. ]
You two trying to get away, sleep.
[ And they go out like a light. The girl turns to Kara, giving her a rather unimpressed once over. ]
Cool.
[ Her voice is normal now, low but steady. She doesn't offer anything else to work with though. ]
no subject
She keeps most of her attention on the kids for long enough to get everyone on their feet and make sure there are no broken bones, but as soon as she's confirmed that a couple scrapes are the worst injuries they've got, she sends them running off home.
After extracting a promise that they won't play on the road anymore, and then she turns her attention to the girl with the creepy voice.]
Thanks.
[She sounds a little skeptical, though.]
Those two gonna be alright?
[Not that she cares, but. whatever]
no subject
Then she looks at them and shrugs again. ]
Just sleeping.
[ She forgets to mention that they might stay like that for the regulation eight hours no matter what happens to them. Oops? ]
You ok?
[ She looks slightly less unimpressed. Perhaps a bit interested? The wings are fairly cool, mind you. ]
no subject
Yeah, I'm hardier than I look.
[She gives her wings a shake, trying to fix all the ruffled feathers, before folding them up against her back. As soon as they're still, they disappear.
~Magic~]
What was that you just did?
