TEST DRIVE MEME

Considering apping into MASK OR MENACE? Want to dip your toes into the setting and get a feel of whether your character will fit into it? Or maybe you're just cruising and want to play around? Then you've come to the right place!

Pick any of the following scenarios below or feel free to make up your own, but don't be afraid to throw yourself at anyone's thread, either!

01. Your memory is hazy and you might feel increasingly frustrated or anxious, or maybe you're excited as soldiers march past, barely glimpsing you. One second you're somewhere underground, the next you're enveloped in blue light, and suddenly you find yourself directly under Flordia sun's bright and burning glare. A female soldier steps toward you with a wide smile on her face and directs you to a car, ready to debrief you. You realize you are not the only one, surrounded by equally confused or eager faces... and you're all sporting a digital tattoo on your wrist.

02. Welcome to Cape Canaveral, where the smell of the ocean is in the air and locals are more than pleased to see new imPorts roaming their streets. They wave, they cheer, they ask for pictures as politely as they can. The more inhuman you look, or if you're wearing a costume, the more likely locals are to approach. Hey, enjoy the moment! The popular malt shop is offering you a free drink if you need it.

03. The technology in this world is certainly something. The cars are clearly modeled after popular 50s cars, but they hover several feet above the ground as they drive down the street. There are digital jukeboxes in restaurants, motorcycles also hover through traffic, advertisements can be seen on a digital projector on the taller buildings. Even kids on skateboards appear to drift a safe ten feet off the ground while playing!

04. Wherever you are, you can hear the loud revving of an engine, distance at first before you finally see it: a hovercar bursting around the corner, going beyond the maximum speed limit and just barely making its sharp turn. It doesn't appear to be slowing down any time soon, not with two police cars trailing it... and uh oh. Those skateboarding kids don't have much time to get out of the way as the car comes speeding down the road. You've been brought here for a reason Hero — so you better act fast.

[A young woman covered completely in feathers is fluttering around on her wings as she goes from person to person (yes, that means you), prompting them to open their mouth (or sticking her fingers right in there) so she could peer at their teeth and leave advice and praises where she can. The fact that she's still holding on to her phone is nothing short of a small miracle. (Her file is long gone, unfortunately)]

Oh, your teeth are fabulous!

[The sight of the speeding car rushing towards the children has her charging forward before she has time to think. With the rapid flap of her wings, she reaches the children a few seconds before the car does and grabs them in her arms. For her small stature, she's deceptively strong as she flies off into the air with both children, circling around before dropping them off on the other side of the street]

Thank goodness. Are you two all right?

[she's a little surprised when the children just cheer and whoop about how awesome that was instead. At least that answers her question]

[ Lookit this little monster with his gaggle of crooked teeth. He makes a vaguely annoyed sound around her fingers. ]

-- Hey!

Oh! [she withdraws her hand, grinning sheepishly and shrugging her shoulders] Sorry. Your teeth are adorable. [her feathery hair flares open slightly in her excitement]

[microbrobotics]

[ Blech. He spits out a feather. ]

And you're - uh - a hummingbird mutant with a tooth fetish?

[she hovers back then forward again, tilting her head slightly as if pondering the statement.]

Of course not. I'm the tooth fairy.

[microbrobotics]

... The mutant theory was more plausible.

[She lets out a soft gasp and covers her mouth. Disbelief and a little bit of horror coloring her features]

You don't believe in me? What about Santa Claus? A-and the Easter Bunny?

[microbrobotics]

[ Sorry, Toothiana. You're talking to the most skeptical sassmaster in San Fransokyo. ]

Uh, no? Maybe Santa when I was like five. And Easter never, much less the bunny.

[oh this is terrible. she flutters about. A little flustered]

That's awful. Are all the children here like this?

[ His teeth are perfect, a side effect of being counted among the Firstborn. The rest of him is pretty perfect as well, but Toothiana is probably not as enamoured with bone structure and frame proportion. She is, as a matter of fact, visually distracting, and Elrond isn't sure whether to be dismayed over the lack of a personal space bubble or fascinated by the female creature invading said personal space.

In the end, he opts for politeness. ]

[Oh, she's definitely too enraptured by his teeth to notice. She's smiling in a dazed manner while she rests her chin on both hands and sighs in content at the perfection presented before her...]

[...until he speaks and she snaps out of her reverie with a flustered flutter of her wings. She smiles at Elrond sheepishly, looking like someone who's been caught with her hands in the cookie jar]

[ And here's Aelita, minding her own business and avoiding any undue attention as she makes her way along the street when-- oh wow those sure are some fingers in her mouth.

She tries to say something that could either be interpreted as 'thank you?' or 'get off me'. Judging by the weak shove she gives the fairy it's probably the latter.]

[Toothiana recognizes a shove when she experiences one, so she draws back sheepishly. (Aelita may find Toothiana's body feathers to be quite soft and floofy)]

Hiii. [she says with a small wave and with a hint of excitement in her tone] I'm the tooth fairy. How are you?

[ She works her jaw a little before replying. ]

I'm fine, but there's better ways to greet someone, you know. Is that normal where you come from?

[but it's so tempting to stick her finger back in again - just for a second look]

Well... I don't really get out much.

Ah begh yer pahdun. [Talking around her fingers very carefully.]

If only the girls could see this- oh! [she withdraws her fingers immediately, tucking them behind her] Hi there. What lovely teeth you have.

Uh... fank iu? [Well. It's just hard to thank her when she still has her fingers opening his mouth.]
