TEST DRIVE MEME

Considering apping into MASK OR MENACE? Want to dip your toes into the setting and get a feel of whether your character will fit into it? Or maybe you're just cruising and want to play around? Then you've come to the right place!

01. Your memory is hazy and you might feel increasingly frustrated or anxious, or maybe you're excited as soldiers march past, barely glimpsing you. One second you're somewhere underground, the next you're enveloped in blue light, and suddenly you find yourself directly under Flordia sun's bright and burning glare. A female soldier steps toward you with a wide smile on her face and directs you to a car, ready to debrief you. You realize you are not the only one, surrounded by equally confused or eager faces... and you're all sporting a digital tattoo on your wrist.

02. Welcome to Cape Canaveral, where the smell of the ocean is in the air and locals are more than pleased to see new imPorts roaming their streets. They wave, they cheer, they ask for pictures as politely as they can. The more inhuman you look, or if you're wearing a costume, the more likely locals are to approach. Hey, enjoy the moment! The popular malt shop is offering you a free drink if you need it.

03. The technology in this world is certainly something. The cars are clearly modeled after popular 50s cars, but they hover several feet above the ground as they drive down the street. There are digital jukeboxes in restaurants, motorcycles also hover through traffic, advertisements can be seen on a digital projector on the taller buildings. Even kids on skateboards appear to drift a safe ten feet off the ground while playing!

04. Wherever you are, you can hear the loud revving of an engine, distance at first before you finally see it: a hovercar bursting around the corner, going beyond the maximum speed limit and just barely making its sharp turn. It doesn't appear to be slowing down any time soon, not with two police cars trailing it... and uh oh. Those skateboarding kids don't have much time to get out of the way as the car comes speeding down the road. You've been brought here for a reason Hero — so you better act fast.

[Sakura has certainly, thanks to the best friend, definitely arrived in costume. So she's getting possibly more attention than she is used to. Which is more than a little overwhelming given the circumstances.

And when she ducks into the malt shop to try get away from the crowds, that doesn't seem any less packed than outside right now. Unfortunately. She takes a deep breath and a seat, trying to calm herself down.]

Everything will be okay. For sure. I'll....figure something out.

04:

[It's not even something she really considers. The crowd. People seeing. Not when those kids are right in the way of that incoming car. Sakura's eyes widen, taking in the situation as she turns at the sound of the engine, the horn beeping.

She reacts quickly, using her Sealing Wand to activate the 'Jump' card.]

The key that holds the power of darkness. Reveal your true form to me. I, Sakura, command thee under convert. Release!

[There's a bright light as the staff extends, before she pulls out the Jump card, slamming the beak of the staff to it and yelling: 'Jump'! Her sneakers gain wings as she leaps much higher than a girl her size should manage, jumping to knock the children out of the way and down to the ground.

It hurts, but she doesn't really care. So long as the children are safe and unharmed. Or, comparatively unharmed as they may have been otherwise.]

[Toothiana draws back with a sharp gasp as she watches the events transpire. It was too late for her to react but it isn't too late for her to fly over and hover over the three children with concern on her features]

Oh my goodness. Are you all right?

[keystaff]

[Sakura shifts, fumbling a little with her legs a bit entwined with the children's but manages to sit and then stand up, checking on them first before giving a nod to Toothiana. Straightening, she holds to her staff and gives a relieved sigh. Her knees might be a bit grazed, but she's fine once she gets her breath back.]

I'm...I'm okay. And they seem to be all right. Thank goodness.

H-hoe?

[There's a pause as she just then notices the crowd. Their video. Their photos and clamoring after seeing her save the children. Of course she is used to Tomoyo and her filming, but this.....this is a bit much.]

[Toothiana flutters on her wings a little uncertainly when she notices the crowd, taken aback by the reactions their presence is garnering. Still, she manages to smile and wave back awkwardly, saying hello and putting up a front while she hovers closer to Sakura and asks in a relatively obvious whisper]

Take my hand.

[keystaff]

[If Sakura notices the hovering and wings, she doesn't yet really react to them, simply giving a sheepish smile and wave herself before doing as Tooth instructs, reaching for her hand. Of course she has gotten attention even prior to this thanks to Tomoyo's 'Cardcaptor' costume she hasn't yet had the chance to change out of, let alone making a scene like this. So it's likely understandable that people are curious about the girl.]

Okay? Now what?

[Toothiana takes her hand firmly and smiles.]

Hold on tight.

[And up they both go into the air. It's a quick and steady ride up to the nearest roof where they can escape the gaggle of adoring fans. She sets Sakura gently down before she continues to hover next to her.]

There. Much better.

[keystaff]

[There's a slight start as they start to rise, but she isn't entirely unused to flying. Just in the matter of being assisted by someone else. So she attempts to remain still and hold tight to Tooth until they are securely on the roof.

Once there she seems to somewhat relax a little, taking in the situation, taking in Tooth more now.]

Y-your wings. Are you....a fairy?

[she lets out a sigh of relief once they're there. It's not everyday that she gets surrounded by adults who wants everything to do with her. She smiles at the question and nods]

Mmhm! I'm the tooth fairy. It's nice to meet you.

[keystaff]

[Okay, that gets a reaction for sure. Sakura's eyes widen in amazement and surprise at that. Of course she knows of the Tooth Fairy back home. She just never actually managed to stay up long enough to spot her or any of the Baby Tooths.]

T-the tooth fairy?! Really? So are you just...visiting here to collect these children's teeth?

[Wait, no. Slow down. Deep breaths. Introductions!]

I'm Sakura.

[He's there with some friends from work, but when he sees the small girl in the outlandish clothes, he excuses himself momentarily with a smile. He knows already that this place brings young people as well as proper adults, but she is very young, just a child, and she is looking a bit dejected.

He can hardly make things alright for her, but maybe she could need a sympathetic person to talk to?

So Sakura will find a sundae being slid into place in front of her before a short man takes a seat by her table, but keeping a respectful distance.]

I am going to take a wild guess and say you just arrived. Am I right, young miss?

[keystaff]

[There's a small start in the way she initially tenses at the voice, looking up from the table to see the man talking to her. Obviously her, given the sundae she stares at for a moment almost confusedly.]

Ah, y-yes. But I don't have any money on me to pay for this.

[Indicating the sundae. Even if she had had some money on her, it would only be Japanese yen, which wouldn't be accepted here in Heropa.]

[Luvander waves a hand languidly in easy dismissal, shaking his head with a smile.]

Money is just money, and you looked like you needed something to cheer you up.

[It's true that the rather stylish clothes he's wearing are mostly due to employee discounts and sales, because it's hardly as if working retail pays big money. But Luvander has never believed in holding on too tight to money anyway, and his mother always said that the cost of a little kindness is always worth it.]

And you know, people were kind to me when I first came here a couple of months ago, so in a way you could say I'm repaying them by passing it on, see?

[keystaff]

I--I'm okay. This is just.... [Rather overwhelming. Over her head. Terrifying in that she's here alone, as far as she knows. Not yet finding anyone from home, any familiar faces at all. There's a pause as she listens to his explanation, considering and giving a nod before looking back to the sundae. It'd be a waste not to have it, let it melt. Maybe later she could repay him somehow once she figured her way around here more.]

Okay then. Thank you, mister--ah, I'm not sure I know your name yet. I'm Sakura.

[Introductions are important, after all. She picks up the spoon and scoops some of the sundae, taking a bite. It's almost enough to immediately cheer her. The sugar, the sweet flavoring.]

[The girl's got features that kind of make her look Ke-Han, even though she's fairer than they usually are, and her name sounds that way too. But even disregarding the fact that she's from a completely different world, what kind of bastard would he have to be to hold an old political grudge against a child?

And the fact that something sweet and some kindness goes so far reminds him of his little sisters when they were younger, and of his nieces and nephews now. Kids are pretty amazing.]

My name is Luvander. It's very nice to meet you, miss Sakura. [He treats her to the closes thing he can get to a bow while stile sitting down.] I take it that they have informed you extensively about this whole hero business by now?

[keystaff]

Luvander-san then.

[She's not quite letting it melt or shoveling it the way Kero would if he were here, but taking her time quick enough to not waste it or not be able to enjoy it. She gives a considering 'hm' at the question, glancing from the sundae as she has another mouthful over to her file. Swallowing before answering.]

Ah, a little. I'm still not sure...I mean, I'm just a kid. But I'll do my best!

[Look at that determined face. Even if she's still not entirely sure what to make of all this. That desire to help won't change or fade, regardless of the circumstances she finds herself thrust into.]

[He'd really like to have a word with the people in charge of imPorts, get an explanation to why anyone thought it was even remotely conscionable to be involved with something that kidnapped children. Even if they weren't actually forced to do hero work, thank Regina, it still left a foul taste in his mouth.

Still, she seems to be made from some pretty sturdy stuff, and he replies with an encouraging grin.]

Well said, you lady. Just as long as you know that you don't have to do anything that scares you too much, and certainly not alone. Since we're all in this situation, it would be a bit silly of us not to help each other out, if you see what I mean?

The only thing that really scares me is....is ghosts.

[Because Toya is a douche and kept telling Sakura all those he saw which freaked her out as a kid and has stuck with her since. But she still seems to agree, still determined as she nods and tries to distract herself from the fact she has yet to find any of her friends or family.]

Ah, I guess you're right though. I mean, I haven't found dad or my brother. Or my friends.....but that doesn't mean I can't make new ones here.

[ One of those people giving her attention is fellow magical girl Hime Shirayuki...who is pretty much drawn to Sakura because she really likes clothes and fashion and oh my gosh, this girl is so cute!

She spots Sakura from across the street and pretty much makes a beeline towards her, looking her over, trying to see her outfit from various angles to see what it looks like overall. ] This is so cute! [ she exclaims, massive grin on her face ]

[keystaff]

[Sakura is at least a little used to the attention and fangirling. It's just that usually there is only one in particular that looks at her like that. Tomoyo. It's both strange and somewhat bittersweet to have Hime there grinning like that at her.]

E-eh? It's....my friend made it.

[friendshiprocks]

Well she's got great taste! [ Hime's still looking at her, trying to view all angles, trying to see the dress from every angle and try to figure out how it's made. (Not that she could make the dress herself. But she wanted to see what it looked like so she could figure out how to find something like it herself.) ]

And man, she's really talented. I wish I had somebody who could make something like that.

I still feel a bit...this stands out a lot, I know. But she likes making the costumes.

[A little self conscious but realizing Hime is focusing on the outfit as she circles the younger girl. Somehow though, talking about Tomoyo calms her even as she worries for her friend with the Final Judgement and that 'disaster' if she should fail.]

She's really amazing! She can cook and sew too! And make videos too!

I'm kind of jealous—she seems super cool. [ She seems really cool as a matter of face. Cooking, sewing and making videos? That's super talented. ]

Anyway, welcome to Heropa! I'm Hime Shirayuki, [ she chirped, offering Sakura her hand. ] It's nice to meet you!

Jealous? [Sakura never really considered that idea. That others might be jealous of her friendship with Tomoyo. But by her age most have their groups of preferred friends anyway as it is.

There's a shift, tilting her head slightly before giving a smile and shaking the offered hand with her free one not holding to her staff.]

I'm Sakura.

That's a pretty name. [ And it was. Hime was looking at Sakura, with her pretty name and her pretty clothes and almost instantly decided that come hell or high water, she was gonna be friends with this girl. ]

Anyway, I've been here for a couple of months now, so if you've got any questions about this place, feel free to ask me them!

Oh? Um, thank you. [Then again she's never really considered much on her name because it just is. Not something she had any control over or that she could change. At least until she was older, even if she wanted to.]

Really? I...I guess I have a few. They talk about being Registered and being heroes. But what about school? Or getting back home?
