TEST DRIVE MEME
Considering apping into MASK OR MENACE? Want to dip your toes into the setting and get a feel of whether your character will fit into it? Or maybe you're just cruising and want to play around? Then you've come to the right place!

Pick any of the following scenarios below or feel free to make up your own, but don't be afraid to throw yourself at anyone's thread, either!

And remember to have fun!

    01. Your memory is hazy and you might feel increasingly frustrated or anxious, or maybe you're excited as soldiers march past, barely glimpsing you. One second you're somewhere underground, the next you're enveloped in blue light, and suddenly you find yourself directly under Flordia sun's bright and burning glare. A female soldier steps toward you with a wide smile on her face and directs you to a car, ready to debrief you. You realize you are not the only one, surrounded by equally confused or eager faces... and you're all sporting a digital tattoo on your wrist.

    02. Welcome to Cape Canaveral, where the smell of the ocean is in the air and locals are more than pleased to see new imPorts roaming their streets. They wave, they cheer, they ask for pictures as politely as they can. The more inhuman you look, or if you're wearing a costume, the more likely locals are to approach. Hey, enjoy the moment! The popular malt shop is offering you a free drink if you need it.

    03. The technology in this world is certainly something. The cars are clearly modeled after popular 50s cars, but they hover several feet above the ground as they drive down the street. There are digital jukeboxes in restaurants, motorcycles also hover through traffic, advertisements can be seen on a digital projector on the taller buildings. Even kids on skateboards appear to drift a safe ten feet off the ground while playing!

    04. Wherever you are, you can hear the loud revving of an engine, distance at first before you finally see it: a hovercar bursting around the corner, going beyond the maximum speed limit and just barely making its sharp turn. It doesn't appear to be slowing down any time soon, not with two police cars trailing it... and uh oh. Those skateboarding kids don't have much time to get out of the way as the car comes speeding down the road. You've been brought here for a reason Hero — so you better act fast.

[Superheroes.

Max sighs as she watches the man go down, not moving from her spot against the wall as she fishes a cigarette from a glittering silver case and lights it.]

Hasn't anyone told you not to break other peoples' toys?

[It's difficult to lure information out of someone if they're unconscious on the ground.]
canarys: (we're doing this my way)

[ Vigilante, thank you very much. And she would argue that he's not broken... Just a little beaten up.

In any case, she gathers from that response that her help hadn't been needed, or wanted. Usually it's one or the other, but both is interesting. ]

You were baiting him. What for?
thephix: max (was a kind of emptiness)

Information.

[Max walks over, but only to nudge the man with the toe of her louboutins. She could wake him up with a little jolt of electricity, but she'd rather to show a stranger what she can do.]

He's rather small time in a local gang, but most men know more than they realize.

[and she could have gotten that information out of him, with a little persuasion.]
canarys: (this is my unimpressed face)

[personal profile] canarys 2015-02-01 06:28 am (UTC)(link)
[ Bad luck for him - sounds like either way he wouldn't have liked how the night ended. But if anyone would be chasing after a crook for leads on gangs, it would be the police. Though the ones she's used to would normally use more... heavy-handed tactics. ]

Information for who?

[ Testing the waters. Depending on her answer, it might be time to slip away. ]
thephix: max (in that smoldering filigree)

[personal profile] thephix 2015-02-01 06:31 am (UTC)(link)
For myself, I'm not very fond of criminals.

[Nevermind that she is a criminal, but if this woman is a superhero, the response could suggest that she's one as well.

Or at least that Max is on the side of the angels.]
canarys: (singing in the dead of night)

[personal profile] canarys 2015-02-01 06:55 am (UTC)(link)
Neither am I.

[ She's not taking that answer either way for now, but it is a strange one to give. Unless she's a vigilante? Her appearance doesn't exactly line up with that. ]

What were you planning to do once you got the information? Take them on singlehandedly?
thephix: max - gratuitous black and white icon (I know you better than this)

[personal profile] thephix 2015-02-01 06:57 am (UTC)(link)
There was going to be a little more planning than that, but you aren't entirely wrong.

[It's just a gang. She can handle that.]
canarys: (stone cold)

[personal profile] canarys 2015-02-01 07:11 am (UTC)(link)
Try a lot more planning.

[ And backup, but that might imply something more than she's willing to promise. ]

You should leave it to the police.
thephix: max - gratuitous black and white icon (darling)

[personal profile] thephix 2015-02-01 07:14 am (UTC)(link)
[That just earns a sharply raised eyebrow.]

A superhero is telling me to leave something to the police?

[pot. kettle.]
canarys: (we're doing this my way)

[personal profile] canarys 2015-02-01 07:27 am (UTC)(link)
[ Firstly: ] I'm not a superhero. [ Because priorities. ]

I've been trained. [ She won't get into her work as an assassin... But it's the next part she places emphasis on. ]

And I don't work alone. You want to take down a gang, you're going to need help.
thephix: max (translucent)

[personal profile] thephix 2015-02-01 07:31 am (UTC)(link)
As have I.

[Been trained, she means, since she's paid a lot of people to teach her how to fight, and even more to teach her how to use her powers.]

And I hardly require back up just to handle an American gang.

[There's a slight emphasis on American, because Max is smart enough not to tussle with Italians or Russians alone.]
