TEST DRIVE MEME
Considering apping into MASK OR MENACE? Want to dip your toes into the setting and get a feel of whether your character will fit into it? Or maybe you're just cruising and want to play around? Then you've come to the right place!

Pick any of the following scenarios below or feel free to make up your own, but don't be afraid to throw yourself at anyone's thread, either!

And remember to have fun!

    01. Your memory is hazy and you might feel increasingly frustrated or anxious, or maybe you're excited as soldiers march past, barely glimpsing you. One second you're somewhere underground, the next you're enveloped in blue light, and suddenly you find yourself directly under Flordia sun's bright and burning glare. A female soldier steps toward you with a wide smile on her face and directs you to a car, ready to debrief you. You realize you are not the only one, surrounded by equally confused or eager faces... and you're all sporting a digital tattoo on your wrist.

    02. Welcome to Cape Canaveral, where the smell of the ocean is in the air and locals are more than pleased to see new imPorts roaming their streets. They wave, they cheer, they ask for pictures as politely as they can. The more inhuman you look, or if you're wearing a costume, the more likely locals are to approach. Hey, enjoy the moment! The popular malt shop is offering you a free drink if you need it.

    03. The technology in this world is certainly something. The cars are clearly modeled after popular 50s cars, but they hover several feet above the ground as they drive down the street. There are digital jukeboxes in restaurants, motorcycles also hover through traffic, advertisements can be seen on a digital projector on the taller buildings. Even kids on skateboards appear to drift a safe ten feet off the ground while playing!

    04. Wherever you are, you can hear the loud revving of an engine, distance at first before you finally see it: a hovercar bursting around the corner, going beyond the maximum speed limit and just barely making its sharp turn. It doesn't appear to be slowing down any time soon, not with two police cars trailing it... and uh oh. Those skateboarding kids don't have much time to get out of the way as the car comes speeding down the road. You've been brought here for a reason Hero — so you better act fast.

[When Oliver first got to this world, he'd done the same exact thing. He'd hunted down his supplies - a bow, a uniform, arrows he could customize as much as he was able to without a supplier - and taken to the rooftops. He'd gone on patrol every night, throwing himself into this strange and new place with a desperation more violent than anything else.

All to feel like this was just an extension of home. That he had the same meaning, inspired the same fear here as he did back in Starling. It was safe. It was familiar. And it helped.

Now, though. Now it's become something else. He's been here long enough that he knows the streets, the rooftops. The sides of certain buildings have dents and pits from where he's glanced them with arrows, where a bullet's dug in as a desperate punk takes a shot at the figure in green. This city, as new as it is, as different as it may be, has begun to mean something. It's people are looking familiar, it's criminals are beginning to become wary about men with bows instead of just laughing and calling him Robin Hood.

But if there was anything that could make Oliver feel like he was back in Starling City, that he could round the corner and see that pizza place Laurel had loved during college, that if he traveled precisely fifteen miles to the west he could find himself at the dock he'd met Sara at almost six years ago, it's the sight of a figure dressed in black, a bright wig on her head, and a staff clotheslining the unfortunate lowlife she'd happened upon.

He watches, crouching at the edge of the fire escape above her, waiting as the person she'd rescued high tails it out of there before vaulting over the side, catching the railing of a lower floor once to slow his fall before landing on the ground.]

I didn't know you were in town.

[He should be saying something more-- familiar, he knows that. Should have said hello, thrown his hood back and embraced her. Something- anything that would go along with what Felicity had told him not too long ago. That sometime in the future the woman in front of him is gone. Dead. In a way that would make them sure of it. But he can't bring himself to. Can't say anything more than what he had, can't do more than channel everything he's heard into the warmth of his tone and try to forget that he might as well be talking to a ghost.]

[ The flicker of movement in her peripheral alerts her to his presence, but she doesn't start. Her back is still to him, and she's slow to turn to face him. When she does, she's relieved that she has her mask on, because she doesn't trust herself right now not to react. She's surprised that he's here, yes, but the relief of having someone familiar, of having Ollie with her, is marred by her last memories of Starling before waking up here. And that's not something she wants to get into. Not yet. ]

I just got in a few days ago. Been laying low.

[ She hadn't had much of a choice, with the killer migraine that apparently being brought back from the brink of death came with. (Not 'brink of', her mind whispers but it's harder to think of it in those terms.)

She breaks down her staff and tucks it into the back of her belt. Then after making sure they're alone, she pulls off her mask and wig to face him properly. ]

Hi.
