PLOT: Undercover with the Reds
WHO'S RUNNING IT: Whoever plays a strategic or spymaster character and wants to get some scheming done.
DURATION: Perhaps one month for the undercover characters?
AFFECTED: Signed-up characters and their CR
FALLOUT: ImPorts would hopefully gain exciting new information on Soviet capabilities and intentions, which could also translate into increased influence with an impressed US government. Characters would have to keep the circle of people who knew what they were doing very small for the sake of Security, leading to wonderful drama with their CR when they abruptly disappear or are outed as a Communist spy.

DETAILS: We already know that the Soviets are open and eager to ImPort defections. So why not give them some? Participating characters would indicate their willingness to join the Soviets through the most convenient opportunity- either by going AWOL to a Soviet nation or contacting known KGB elements within the United States. The government might know about this and support it, or it could be a rogue operation- in which case participants might find themselves hunted by American agents.

Depending on how the Soviets reacted, this could lead to a difficult lack of CR for undercover characters, especially if they are taken out of the country and if they need to leave their communicators behind (can’t hand Moscow access to the ImPort Network, after all). However, it could be worth it to gain information on Soviet capabilities, intentions, and perspective, especially toward ImPorts. New CR would also hopefully be built among our ImPort moles, assuming the Russians keep them together.

Once on the inside, our moles would be tasked with carrying out espionage operations against ImPorts to prove their loyalty to their new Soviet masters- sabotage, fighting other ImPorts, reporting on private conversations. Characters would need to decide how far they were really willing to go to keep their covers intact. Other characters might be tasked by US authorities to investigate and apprehend possible traitors in their midst, adding to the paranoia.

At the end of the plot there could be an action log where the moles are extracted back to American custody by ‘loyal’ superheroes in a daring high-stakes operation, and then debriefed with what they have found out. This is only a skeleton idea at this point though- I just really love undercover stories!
