TEST DRIVE MEME

Considering apping into MASK OR MENACE? Want to dip your toes into the setting and get a feel of whether your character will fit into it? Or maybe you're just cruising and want to play around? Then you've come to the right place!

Pick any of the following scenarios below or feel free to make up your own, but don't be afraid to throw yourself at anyone's thread, either!

01. Your memory is hazy and you might feel increasingly frustrated or anxious, or maybe you're excited as soldiers march past, barely glimpsing you. One second you're somewhere underground, the next you're enveloped in blue light, and suddenly you find yourself directly under Florida sun's bright and burning glare. A female soldier steps toward you with a wide smile on her face and directs you to a car, ready to debrief you. You realize you are not the only one, surrounded by equally confused or eager faces... and you're all sporting a digital tattoo on your wrist.

02. Welcome to Cape Canaveral, where the smell of the ocean is in the air and locals are more than pleased to see new imPorts roaming their streets. They wave, they cheer, they ask for pictures as politely as they can. The more inhuman you look, or if you're wearing a costume, the more likely locals are to approach. Hey, enjoy the moment! The popular malt shop is offering you a free drink if you need it.

03. The technology in this world is certainly something. The cars are clearly modeled after popular 50s cars, but they hover several feet above the ground as they drive down the street. There are digital jukeboxes in restaurants, motorcycles also hover through traffic, advertisements can be seen on a digital projector on the taller buildings. Even kids on skateboards appear to drift a safe ten feet off the ground while playing!

04. Wherever you are, you can hear the loud revving of an engine, distance at first before you finally see it: a hovercar bursting around the corner, going beyond the maximum speed limit and just barely making its sharp turn. It doesn't appear to be slowing down any time soon, not with two police cars trailing it... and uh oh. Those skateboarding kids don't have much time to get out of the way as the car comes speeding down the road. You've been brought here for a reason Hero — so you better act fast.

[Mycroft just takes another moment to watch the people around them, smile polite - airing his thoughts on goldfish in public is not the wisest of ideas.]

[Lucifer's smile doesn't reach his eyes, but he offers the man his popcorn all the same.]

[Gosh Lucifer, here two minutes and already trying to ruin Mycroft's diet.]

I'd say lucky you I if I hadn't been brought up well. This entire place will be a trial for most.

[Give in, Mycroft. A little popcorn won't hurt. Lucifer seems to be enjoying it :'D]

What kind of trial?

[Not even the devil himself could tempt Mycroft from his diet.

That would depend on what you find tedious the most.

Not sure about the most, but abduction is definitely in the top ten.

[Oh he will. There's nothing religious in Mycroft's mind at all. No such thing as angels and the likes.]

Then you'll be sharing something in common with the majority here. I haven't met any that are happy to have been pulled, but I'll wager they exist.

[In Lucifer's opinion there's not much going on in all those little human minds at all.]

So is there anything to redeem this place?

[Mycroft would disagree, but only on the principle that the majority of normal people get themselves so wound up over little things. The question just gets a nose wrinkle.

If there is, I haven't seen it. What I see is a lot of canon fodder for the first psycho that turns up with explosive powers.

[Cakes are much nicer vices than cigarettes, Mr. Holmes.]

[Both are just as good, but cigarettes don't put the pounds on, Lucifer.]

Didn't you get that news on arrival? Everyone is the canon fodder.

Perhaps. But then not everyone can hear the subtext. If they didn't need canon fodder, we wouldn't be here, would we?

[The fun part is, Mycroft, is that God and the angels don't believe in you either. :'D]

I take it you're some kind of politician. [Usually people pretend to assign others some semblance of value. Lucifer's really not getting that vibe from you.]

Not at all, the most tedious of jobs. [Okay fine, Mycroft is going to light a cigarette. This person is interesting; looks completely normal but Mycroft can't get ay kind of read on him. Not even what the person had for breakfast.] Civil servant.

Yeah? [Up go the eyebrows. Mycroft those things will kill you!
