01. Your memory is hazy and you might feel increasingly frustrated or anxious, or maybe you're excited as soldiers march past, barely glimpsing you. One second you're somewhere underground, the next you're enveloped in blue light, and suddenly you find yourself directly under Florida sun's bright and burning glare. A female soldier steps toward you with a wide smile on her face and directs you to a car, ready to debrief you. You realize you are not the only one, surrounded by equally confused or eager faces... and you're all sporting a digital tattoo on your wrist.

02. Welcome to Cape Canaveral, where the smell of the ocean is in the air and locals are more than pleased to see new imPorts roaming their streets. They wave, they cheer, they ask for pictures as politely as they can. The more inhuman you look, or if you're wearing a costume, the more likely locals are to approach. Hey, enjoy the moment! The popular malt shop is offering you a free drink if you need it.

03. The technology in this world is certainly something. The cars are clearly modeled after popular 50s cars, but they hover several feet above the ground as they drive down the street. There are digital jukeboxes in restaurants, motorcycles also hover through traffic, advertisements can be seen on a digital projector on the taller buildings. Even kids on skateboards appear to drift a safe ten feet off the ground while playing!

04. Wherever you are, you can hear the loud revving of an engine, distance at first before you finally see it: a hovercar bursting around the corner, going beyond the maximum speed limit and just barely making its sharp turn. It doesn't appear to be slowing down any time soon, not with two police cars trailing it... and uh oh. Those skateboarding kids don't have much time to get out of the way as the car comes speeding down the road. You've been brought here for a reason Hero — so you better act fast.

Ysvali was infinitely curious about the mortal realm which was what had led her to find a human magi to summon her to their realm. She'd laughed in the magi's face and rushed off to find her own way, to satisfy her own curiosity. Unfortunately she didn't get far before everything shifted on her. She recognized the feeling of being transported across the veil but what greeted her on the other side was both fascinating and strange to her.

There were humans, she wasn't surprised by that, but the look of everything was nothing like that of Bangrahr or the mortal realm of her world. Everything was a distraction as she tried to take it all in, only half hearing what was said to her. She only came to a complete stop when she pushed into the bright Florida sun. She cringed and covered her eyes until they adjusted to the light. Momentary blindness passed and all she could do was look around with her mouth slightly agape.

"This isn't what I had in mind when I wanted to see a new world." Her lips pressed together as she stared at one the vehicles that passed by. What the hell was that thing? She wasn't sure if she should be afraid of it or what. Although the reaction from others around her to the vehicles suggested they were perfectly normal. Still strange, however.


3.
The young ifrit hadn't quite settled into this new world, everything was strange and exciting but also a tad frightening at the same time. She found she didn't like the cars much, they were far too cramped within. Most of the buildings weren't any better, cramped quarters compared to what she was used to back home. She also didn't like the fact that she actually had to be covered by the ridiculous clothing of this world. Sure, she'd shown up in a pair of short, baggy pants and unbuttoned shirt, as well quite a bit of jewelry but apparently that wasn't enough. These things called shoes were expected to be worn and shirts were meant to be buttoned so they didn't blow open. She hated it and, naturally, was refusing to do anything expected of her.

So Ysvali wandered, barefoot, through the streets. She paused every so often to take in her surroundings and all the strange human things about her. She avoided the street if at all possible, she didn't trust those cars. But the hover skateboards looked like a lot of fun and that's what she decided to go after. The kids playing with them seemed more than willing to share after showing her how the boards worked.

Now, this was a dangerous thing to give the young djinn. She had little regard for those around her and sped off on the skateboard, not really watching where she was going. Hopefully anyone else walking around was paying attention.

[This had started out distressingly familiar. There's a particular quality of air in Florida- not the best best to groggily come to in, unaware of just how you've traveled. Michael would really prefer somewhere drier. But for familiarity, it's hard to beat.

Not that familiar is comforting, especially not given these tattoos. Still, for now the safest option appears to be to go along with it until he can get more information. These people may clearly be insane, but they also clearly have some impressive capabilities.]

So, [He turns to the person next to him with a wide smile that looks plastered on.] been to Florida before?

[ dexter looks over blankly, hating when guys try to play this game. it's like michael's not even trying with that smile. also he might be a little grumpy!!!!!!! ]

[As far as standing out in a crowd goes, Lambda accomplishes that well with her robot-like appearance. So, it's no surprise that she should find herself fielding a fair bit of attention from the locals, imposing weaponry or not.]

[Despite the lack of emotion in her expression and the cool monotone of her voice, though, she actually appears to be one of the imPorts handling the attention most poorly. She doesn't seem quite sure what her response to the natives should be, and there's something oddly skittish about her demeanor, like an easily spooked animal. In truth, her databanks simply lack of information on the correct protocol for social situations like this, and as a result, she's overwhelmed trying to keep up.]

[Maybe she could use some help? Though it might be good to avoid startling her more than she already has been; she was built for combat, after all.]

[Lambda doesn't seem quite sure about the malt shop, either. She's staring at her free drink the way most people would a large book in an incomprehensible language.]

[If he's curious at all about Lambda's appearance, it certainly doesn't show on his face. He just has the impression there's a lot of people around right now and - if you can believe it - the fact he's talking to her specifically is just by chance.]

This is a real mess, huh?

[There's a teenage girl crouched down on the sidewalk next to a car. Her clothes aren't the best- rumpled and grease-stained cargo pants and t-shirt, and a pair of mechanics gloves she keeps idly fidgeting with, drawing them up further.

She's looking under the car, at its components, and at the street itself. As she raises her right hand to rub the back of her head, she mumbles.] But how does it work...

[Jokes on you Linh, Hans doesn't even know how to drive a car in the first place. But, he's coming back home from work (wearing sensible jeans and a t-shirt instead of his over the top princely regalia) and manages to catch Linh's mumblings as she stares at the car.]

If I knew, I'd tell you, [he responds, with a weak smile.] I don't even know how to drive these things.

[He isn't enjoying the moment. He's been winding away from the main streets, the people asking for pictures, the attention, keeping the long sleeves of his shirt over his wrists. There's no reason to assume this is real, but there's also no reason to attract more notice. He doesn't want the notice he has.

He could use a coffee, though. Is there a shop around here?]

The transition from what could only be called the afterlife in his world to the very jarring reality of a corporeal existence is disconcerting to say the least. It doesn't help that he doesn't blend -- the SOLDIER uniform plus the very obvious presence of an unusually large sword on his back certainly doesn't help.

People cluster around him, and he has to very awkwardly try to extricate himself from their attentions. Finally, it seems, he manages to give them the slip...only to accidentally bump into somebody else.

Flustered, he's quick to give an apology. ]

[ he watches the hovercar-chase with detached boredom, though under the surface it's as thrilling as any miami car chase would be. something about it taking to the sky took away from some of the bloodlust, however, and for that reason, dexter quickly lost interest, sipping on his mango batido and squinting into the sun.

business as usual, y'all, though the tattoo was itchy or something. maybe that was just a mild irritation manufactured by his own mind, but no matter -- this smoothie was just as delicious as back home. and the guayabera he wore with its tribal drummer repeating pattern in bright orange and green was still his favorite.

[Inamongst the festivities, a fairly ordinary looking man is watching the crowds with what appears to be the vague interest of someone who's found themselves somewhere with nothing better to do and no means of leaving early.

He's even found himself a box of popcorn, and anyone observant enough will spot the tattoo on his wrist, which he's making no effort to conceal.

Funnily enough, all the smiling locals who approach with cameras seem to leave without having taken any pictures with the man.

At some point, when he's found or been approached by another imPort he'll ask-] Is it always like this?

[Franklin's starting to slowly piece together what's going on. He doesn't know how the fuck it happened, but something the fuck happened. The green-collared rotweiller walking next to him never seemed to mind, at least. Franklin glanced over at the hulking drool machine next to him and, after a sigh, reached out to scratch his head.]

Guess we ain't in Kansas anymore, Chop.

[Just then, a car pulled up. No, that wasn't the right word. More like it floated to a stop next to the sidewalk. It hovered for a moment, then slowly settled itself to the ground.

Franklin stared.]

The fuck is...?

[The owner of the car flicked the engine off and stepped out. Franklin could barely bother to wait until she walked up the steps to the apartments behind him. As soon as the door closed behind him, Franklin peeled himself off the steps and jogged towards the car. Chop followed behind, nose pointed in the car's direction.

Franklin kneeled in front of the car with an obvious mix of perplexity and admiration in his eyes. He ran a sleeve-covered hand across the door. Finally, he gave out an astonished laugh.]

Flying fuckin' cars? Now I know I'm in a comic book.

[ Normally it's not anything that would catch Harvey's attention, and he's not paying attention particularly, except for the words he catches spoken as he's strolling slowly along the sidewalk--

"Flying fuckin' cars? Now I know--".

The kind of astonishment that speaks to his kind of people. The ones that don't belong here. He turns his head and looks at the man. ]

Don't second-guess reality. This ain't a comic book -- not half as predictable. [ He looks at the car. ] Nice, aren't they?

[The technology in this world is really strange. It's not the developments that seem weird- transportation, flying cars, those were all par for the course with the integration of technology into society. But the jukeboxes, and the adoration of chrome everywhere... It seems more like it's staged, like he's on a movie set for some weird sci-fi movie.

But the tattoo on his arm is real, and the ability to mentally call someone is also just as real. Inumuta pushes his glasses up with his hand, as he looks over his phone's screen. He needs to learn more about this world. Maybe he should start more with the people in it. Guess he's going to have to do this the hard way, until he can get into the government databases. Starting with... you, random stranger.]

[ he's sitting on a bench by the beach, just watching this new world run its course; from the floating cars to the extremely old fashioned feel of everything. it's all surreal, like one of Mia's old films. his folder is open on his lap, and he's read it pretty thoroughly and well. he's not entirely convinced, ironically, of his supposed superpower, because it sounds a lot like bs to him. ]

( What kind of superpower is being able to convince people you're telling the truth? I've been doing that just fine on my own. Is this for real? )

[ still, when he sees a car heading towards towards those children, he makes to shout a warning but then abruptly the car goes flying, and the source is someone in what could only be described as a superhero costume.

[Should Phoenix look back at her he'd find a teenage girl that's barefoot and dressed in nothing more but a baggy pair of short pants, an unbuttoned vest, and a multitude of golden bangles decorating her arms.]

[Well, he's never one to turn down attention; hell, his blindfold resembles a superhero mask enough that he blends in pretty well already. You may catch him posing for a photo like so, with two kids standing either side of him and mimicking the stance.]

He seems to fade into sight suddenly right in front of the skateboarders, all decked out, and with a single swipe of his sword downwards smashes the hood of the car in two and stops it abruptly, the rear of the vehicle rising up suddenly to the point it's almost completely vertical, then comes crashing down - whatever keeps it hovering is probably wrecked.

But hey, day saved right?]

Let that be a lesson to you guys!

[Topped off with him pointing his weapon at the windshield of the car, threateningly. He then turns his head to look over his shoulder, giving both kids a thumbs up with his free hand.

The powers that be have taken one of history's greatest dorks and enabled him into this kind of behavior. Good job.]

[In the crowd of confused faces, one figure starts to draw back, away from the soldier. Eventually he turns and starts to work his way to the back of the crowd. He says nothing but is obviously trying to remove himself from the situation and run off to...anywhere but here. Not, perhaps, the wisest course of action in a new place.

But whatever this is, he wants none of it.]

[Balthier didn't like that they had somehow taken him from his own world in the first place, but the fact that they were trying to recruit them for some "greater purpose" made their arguments even more disagreeable to him. Still, despite his thoughts on the matter, it didn't hurt to hear what they had to say.

He stands towards the back of the crowd, half listening to the soldier up front, half scanning the others around him. The amount of people with them was astounding--almost sickening--and he can't help but scowl a little at the thought.

A movement catches his eye. Ah, so it seemed not everyone here was eager to join up. That's a bit refreshing. He waits until Garrett's close enough to hear him without having to raise his voice too much.]

Making a quick exit? Not exactly the easiest task, I'd expect.

[Alan didn't trust his senses anymore. To be dragged from the twisted depth of darkness onto the grounds of sunny Florida was a jolting experience but he found that he couldn't place his trust in this place. The light should be a friend but every word of explanation barely registered in his mind.

The darkness was infinite and all powerful. Defeating it once was challenging enough. He didn't think the dark would manifest something as bright as this but he would hardly put it past it to be this elaborate.

Alan looked like he hadn't shaved in days as he stepped out of the car and into the city of Heropa. The place felt like the modern 50s; a revived antique. It felt strangely fitting as he looked around him like a drunk man in a stupor. He didn't want to believe he had escaped his own personal hell so easily.

Once that thought registered, he grabbed at the nearest person to ask, no, demand:]

Where's the lake?

[She slowly looks down at the hand that just grabbed her.

And then she slowly looks back up at the guy who grabbed her.]

Anyone who looks at her will see the picture of neutrality and calm. It isn't too different from her actual state -- Bedelia has managed to temper her rising panic at the unknown situation. Currently, she is looking for something to ground her, something familiar that will tether her to reality when it seems like she is drifting in a place that pretends actual heroes exist.]

You just "arrived" too? ["Just kidnapped" doesn't seem like the best way to start a conversation, even if it would be accurate.]

[ he sips on his malt contemplatively as he takes in the sights. On occasion his fangs elicits a delighted giggle from the children, who peer at him curiously. Ptolemy tires of it quickly, their thoughts filling his senses like thread-bar cotton candy and he finds himself a quiet spot by the sea ]

[Ysvali had taken an incorporeal form to conserve mana. Wandering around unseen by those without the ability to see spirits made it easier on her. She eventually happens upon a lone figure sipping something she's unfamiliar with.

Without thinking about how the person would react to her simply materializing out of thin air she does so, right beside him. He may have picked up on her prior to her appearance if he's capable of detecting spiritual beings, they have thoughts too after all.]

[This is all wrong. The lack of memory, the markings on his wrist, the registering - it's all a nightmare come true. It's everything he's ever fought for collapsing right in front of him, and he doesn't have the shred of an idea how it could happen. There's nothing in this place he recognizes, and none of the other faces going through the same seem familiar, even among the students he remembers from the academy.]

Where am I? [There's a failed attempt to stay calm - the confusion and anger in his heart seep into his voice.] What is this?!

[Scott's panic catches his attention pretty quick, which he ends up deciding to address.]

[The joke that Bellatrix can be anything close to a hero ceased to be funny long ago. Threats and curses would be appropriate in this situation, but she's been through this song and dance before. She's learned that theatrics can get you nowhere except for prison, and she's been behind bars long enough. The only glaring difference is the ink on her wrist -- a stark contrast to the Dark Mark on her arm.

Perhaps she feels a bit of relief, really, being brought back here. (Though exploring this place, "here" being the City is debatable.) She knows her fate in her own world, and another opportunity at life isn't something to turn away from, no matter how strange the circumstances are.

Walking down one of the main streets, she meets anyone who happens to glance at her with a sneer. She didn't have patience for the natives the first time around, and this time isn't going to be any different.]

[ Something so little as a year and a universe's passing haven't had any real effect on the appearance of the woman gazing intently out of a storefront as Bellatrix passes. Her dark hair is somewhat pulled back, her clothing mirrors the fashion of her surroundings, but the features and figure are exactly the same -- and even if she doesn't notice Lust, she's certainly noticing her.

At first it's a suspicion rather than a certainty, the niggling sense of familiarity as she catches sight of a particularly unruly head of hair. But she follows that sight, as she's so wont to do, and the further she goes the more certain she is. She's a little too dignified to outright run after the witch, and she's certainly not about to call for her -- but after shooing away the salesclerk and returning to the street she's definitely walking faster than normal. If Bellatrix notices the obnoxious click of her heels or feels she's being followed, even the simplest glance back should confirm her suspicions! If not, she'll wait until reaching idk, a stop light or something, to speak in a low, carrying voice. Even if the woman plans on playing nice for the military (which, let's face it, she seriously doubts), Lust knows her too well to tap her on the back without forewarning. ]

Welcome back. [ Though there's no explicit approval in her expression it's there nonetheless, in her voice, behind her eyes. The corners of her lips rise just slightly. ] Or should it just be "welcome"?

[The small man in front of her is gesturing with his strange camera, and the tone is very polite, but his voice is having a hard time reaching Hawkeye's brain.]

[He repeats his question very slowly and patiently, but it still sounds to her ears like he's underwater. Things are a little hazy. Not just her memory after the adrenaline of the battle wore off, but also her vision. Maybe it's the sudden heat, compared to the early spring chill she left in Central. Or maybe it's the, you know, major blood loss. Her fingers definitely find a dry bandage at the base of her throat, and she can feel the constriction of another wrapped around her shoulder, and--yes, there, things are coming back now. Rebecca, a doctor cleaning the blood away from her throat and stitching it closed, and the cool flood of an IV down her arm. And then a strange room, a quick debriefment she can barely recall, and an admonition to get some rest and keep her fluids up. They'd mentioned photographs, she remembers now. Among other things]

I apologize. A photograph? Yes, but would you--

[The flash is unexpected and blinding, and Hawkeye immediately regrets it when she flinches and her entire left side protests in the most painful way possible. The man with a camera is already moving on to someone flashier--and not covered in dust and ash and blood--by the time she recovers her senses again.]

Sir, wait, please, I need directions.

[He just watches, for a few moments. It's callous, yes, but it's not like the arrivals aren't being provided with services here, and he'd rather not put himself out there. It can go badly.

But she's injured, and she's not getting help.]

There are some maps in that convenience store. [He jerks his head to the right, keeping his hands in his pockets.]

[Registration. The very word made Betsy’s lips curl in disgust. She made no attempt to hide the annoyance on her face as the female soldier debriefed her. While she listened to the woman’s attempt at a polite explanation of the situation she reached out with her mind and made a quick telepathic scan of those around her. Betsy had never been a particularly polite telepath and she certainly wasn’t going to hold back in a new world she knew nothing about. Especially when the first thing she’d gotten upon arrival was a digital tattoo.

Once the woman was finished, Betsy pulled the hood of the cape she’d been wearing upon arrival up and made her leave. If she hadn’t been in a dress and heels she might have actually stormed off. Unfortunately, it seemed the alternate dimension kidnapping always happened at the absolute worst moment possible. She let out a frustrated sigh, pulled the cloak tighter around herself, and began the process of exploration.

[Gabriel is pretty torn here. On one hand he's having the time of his life, smiling, grinning, posing for pictures with the non-imPorts. Unknown to them, they'll be having severe allergic reactions later for even touching him. Why? He's so bored. Dying isn't meant to throw you into dammed Florida. This is ridiculous.

The other hand is slightly more serious, though often passed over for frivolity. Who managed this? Who was it that managed to drag him from a bad-ending standoff with his brother, to this place? This wasn't the normal Heavenly bullshit that flew around a lot. No, this crap was something else entirely.

Nope that is it. He's had enough. Gabriel grabs himself some candied popcorn, sitting on the back of a bench, feet on the seat as he watches people walking by.]
