TEST DRIVE MEME

Considering apping into MASK OR MENACE? Want to dip your toes into the setting and get a feel of whether your character will fit into it? Or maybe you're just cruising and want to play around? Then you've come to the right place!

Pick any of the following scenarios below or feel free to make up your own, but don't be afraid to throw yourself at anyone's thread, either!

01. Your memory is hazy and you might feel increasingly frustrated or anxious, or maybe you're excited as soldiers march past, barely glimpsing you. One second you're somewhere underground, the next you're enveloped in blue light, and suddenly you find yourself directly under Florida sun's bright and burning glare. A female soldier steps toward you with a wide smile on her face and directs you to a car, ready to debrief you. You realize you are not the only one, surrounded by equally confused or eager faces... and you're all sporting a digital tattoo on your wrist.

02. Welcome to Cape Canaveral, where the smell of the ocean is in the air and locals are more than pleased to see new imPorts roaming their streets. They wave, they cheer, they ask for pictures as politely as they can. The more inhuman you look, or if you're wearing a costume, the more likely locals are to approach. Hey, enjoy the moment! The popular malt shop is offering you a free drink if you need it.

03. The technology in this world is certainly something. The cars are clearly modeled after popular 50s cars, but they hover several feet above the ground as they drive down the street. There are digital jukeboxes in restaurants, motorcycles also hover through traffic, advertisements can be seen on a digital projector on the taller buildings. Even kids on skateboards appear to drift a safe ten feet off the ground while playing!

04. Wherever you are, you can hear the loud revving of an engine, distance at first before you finally see it: a hovercar bursting around the corner, going beyond the maximum speed limit and just barely making its sharp turn. It doesn't appear to be slowing down any time soon, not with two police cars trailing it... and uh oh. Those skateboarding kids don't have much time to get out of the way as the car comes speeding down the road. You've been brought here for a reason Hero — so you better act fast.

[His face drops. He is quite less than pleased with this power; indeed, he looks away to keep from having to see the look on Phoenix's face.]

Apparently, I am able to cause people to suffer guilt.

[ his first thought had something to do with a joke about prosecutors and guilt, but when Edgeworth looks away as he says it, that thought fades into apprehension and slight worry. ]

What do you mean?

[The line of his mouth grows more troubled.]

Anyone I lay hands on. I can induce feelings of guilt in them. Apparently.

I have not checked to see if this is indeed the case, for rather obvious reasons.

[ he can tell that Edgeworth is on, well, edge about this and he can see why. ]

... That's a heavy power to hold. ( Not exactly the kind of power I expected for becoming a 'hero'. )

[glassinine]

[A quick shake of his head, dismissive.]

I'm not going to use it, ever. Simple as that. So I shall be as I was at home: an attorney with no special characteristics.

Yourself as well, I suspect.

[ no special characteristics, he says. as if being Chief Prosecutor is no big deal. ]

I'd have to brush up on my law first. Especially if this place is used to having people with all kinds of abilities running around.

[glassinine]

[A moment, and then he looks over at Phoenix.]

And you will, I hope. This city will be a better place if it has you standing in the courtroom.

When you put it that way, how can I say no?

[And Edgeworth relaxes, then turns a very faint, small smile towards his friend.]

It seems I have powers of persuasion of my own.

[ though it does his heart good to see his friend smile, now he's lost Phoenix. ]

[A firm - and perhaps a bit smug - nod.]

That shall come. But for now, we must work on building your image in the eyes of the people here - and one cannot make a good first impression if one does not even bother to shave.

[ Phoenix runs his hand over his stubble absently. while he wasn't going to deny he'd let his appearance go a bit, Edgeworth was certainly making it sound like he was some kind of unkempt hobo. ]

Don't you think you're worrying a little excessively? I haven't forgotten how to dress up, Edgeworth. ( I just haven't had much reason to. )
